I've been thinking about a post with this info for a few weeks now, so here it is! A note that I am not affiliated with any of these sites or services--I just use them :)
Until late last year, I had been using thesaurus.com to handle my never-ending hunt for the perfect word. I switched to WordHippo because it is much more friendly to searching phrases in addition to just words. It also includes rhymes, translations, word forms, and pronunciations. For non-English speakers, the word forms section could be particularly helpful.
This site has just about anything you could need in relation to generators, including ones specific to pop culture and fandoms like Stargate, Star Trek, Harry Potter, and more. There are sections to create simple mockups of character armor, solar systems, languages, and even find some royalty-free music.
As a graphic designer, I often find myself needing to visualize my characters, environments, and book covers to really immerse myself when I'm trying to write a scene. PhotoPea is a free alternative to Photoshop that even uses many of the same keyboard shortcuts (meaning you can often follow Photoshop tutorials while using PhotoPea). If the Adobe Creative Suite is out of your budget, PhotoPea is, in my opinion, the best free alternative.
This was the first generator site I used back in my days on FanFiction and FictionPress, and I still like to use it for its slightly less daunting interface when compared to Fantasy Name Generators. I also find it loads faster.
I stumbled across this site not long ago, and I've become a bit obsessed with it. It's a bit clunky to navigate, but there's a lot of information and helpful tidbits to be found including color symbolism, body language, and words to use/not use and why.
While this isn't a specific site, and the one I've linked here is just one example of many that are out there, I've found No Man's Sky to be one of my biggest inspirations when writing sci-fi and environmentally focused scenes. The sheer scale of No Man's Sky and its procedurally generated worlds make it easy to find inspiration for everything from planets, to fauna, wildlife, ships, and structures.
This site stands alone if you need something that allows you to build beautiful maps for your stories. It has a free and a paid version, and the free version is fairly robust. If you're someone who writes anything that involves large-scale worlds or anything involving military strategies, it can be really helpful to have the lay of the land right in front of you as you write.
While the free version of this is pretty limited, I've really enjoyed having it accessible for identifying adverbs, story beats, and to compare my original pieces to genres and authors.
If you need high resolution screen captures from your favorite shows, this is the place to find them!
ADHD moment, wanted to warm up before really leaning into a piece for a client and, uh, two days later I got this! I am a little less angry with myself than usual on account of REALLY liking how this one came out!
I've been starting to re-read my earlier chapters of Ithaca as I near completion. I can safely say this is the heaviest and most speculative piece I've ever written. When I started writing it last September, I had no idea how much it would take over my life, how important it would become for me to be able to get it out into the world. I also didn't seriously expect to make it this far.
I'm behind schedule right now, for obvious reasons, but it still blows my mind to look at this outline and see so few scenes (in white) left to write. There's a lot of work to do even once it is completed, and a lot of trimming down as it's approaching 130,000 words. I still have to decide if I'm going to use any of these chapter titles or just stick with numbers, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to have a first manuscript printed to hold in my hands before the end of the year--and then promptly mark up all the problems with it and start round two =D
"He asked about you," Eva said, rubbing one arm and then shoving a hand in her pocket. "Who you are, why you care."
"I don't like bullies, is all," Taryn replied with a frown, and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Ain't need no more reason than that."
"He says you got a mouth on you. Says you oughtta learn when to shut it."
Eva looked at the ground as she said it, kicking at the gravel with the toe of her boot.
"That what he said?" Taryn asked, and she almost grinned as she leaned back on the column.
"That's what he said."
"And what d'you think Miss Eva Kincaid?"
"I don't think nothin'."
"That means you think somethin'."
Eva looked up, and her mouth and her brows settled into hard lines.
"I think you gone an' pissed off Mister Sterling. An' I think you just might wanna listen to him."
Taryn regarded her. She still wasn't swayed. She could tell Eva knew it, too. She pushed off the column and came a step closer.
"I'll think about shuttin' my mouth when he thinks about keepin' his hands off o' you. You can tell him I said that, too."

Taryn Monroe prefers simplicity–her place in the mountains, the predictable rhythm of her job at the mill, and the peace that comes with keeping to herself.
Every Tuesday, a woman shows up at precisely fifteen minutes to close. Taryn doesn’t know much about her–just the rumble of her truck, the way she never wastes words, and the peculiar gallon of sulfur she buys each week. Then one Tuesday, she doesn’t show up. Taryn tells herself to leave it alone, that it’s not her business and the woman can handle herself. But when she overhears an argument and starts asking questions, she can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong–and her life becomes anything but simple. Something wild is living in the barn at Wardenwood Hollow. Something keeping the woman bound to the old Sterling Farm. And Taryn may be her only chance to break free.
IT'S TURKEY EGG SEASON 😊

For the love of all that you enjoy: DON’T PAYWALL YOUR FANFICTION.
Again, but louder:
It’s getting more and more common. I’ve seen three posts about it in the last 24 hours - patreons where you’ll get “exclusive” fanfiction stories if you’re a subscriber.
Don’t.
Don’t do it.
It’s annoying, but mostly it’s fucking dangerous.
The whole fanfiction community prosper on someone else’s turf under “fair use” laws. In simple terms: we can play with other people’s creations for as long as it’s done for our own amusement, and that of our followers.
Once any kind of financial benefits are made, it becomes another abuse of someone else’s rights.
And look, I get it. It sucks, especially seeing the artists take commissions while the authors get nothing, and it takes hours and hours of our time, and I understand people are looking for a side hustle to make ends meet in this monstrosity of a capitalist society, but if we don’t stop it from happening, the rights owners will stop it.
And they’ll stop it for everyone.
It’s not worth it. Don’t do it.
The only time I've ever spent a full day scrounging the internet to collect all 15 books was for Taylor Anderson's Destroyermen series. I cannot recommend these enough. I still have yet to read the first of the spinoff Artillerymen series, but if you need a SciFi/twisted history series to get lost in--this guy's books are it.
I wrote the plot twist last night.
I can't believe this story is actually ALMOST DONE.
JUST KEEP WRITING, PEEPS. You can do it!

The Northeast: "HOW DARE YOU???"
Me, while defrosting: "My characters shall also suffer this sub-zero misery."
