Mother Nature

(TW Graphic Descriptions and Death)

There was once a town. It was large and wondrous, filled with lights, bustling cars, clean streets, and smiling people. There was a nearby forest that the people used as their main resource. Tree wood was taken from the forest to make buildings and businesses, trash was thrown out of sight, and sometimes animals were hunted for fun. Everything was peaceful and happy. Everyone felt safe, secure, and at ease. The children of the town, however, said they heard screaming every time they slept. They said there were screams of pain and they called for help, but the adults dismissed it. They had decided that all the children were just dreaming or playing a silly game, and they believed they all were just dreaming. They never heard poor nature's children screaming. They never saw the anger of the one who heard every cry.

It all began with one simple afternoon. There was a group of woodworkers who ventured into the surrounding forest to collect wood from the trees. Those who returned said something felt off that day. They said the group walked in complete silence, watching every corner. They felt something watching them walk, that something was following them, they thought something was hunting them down. There were no words exchanged, no sounds from the animals, and the river itself seemed very silent that day. All they heard was the crunching of leaves under their feet and hair on their necks sticking up. While they tried to work, the trees they used to cut down were now like stones to them. They wouldn’t even dent or chip as they swung their axes and fired up their chainsaws. Woodworkers were confused. They came every week to chop and collect wood from all the trees the forest had, sometimes even killing the animals hiding among the trees. Now they couldn't chop anything down. It felt humiliating and shameful, so they kept trying. As the day progressed and the sun set, a loud scream from one of the woodworkers was heard. When the group ran to check on him, they found a horrifying and blood-filled scene. One of their fellow woodworkers had his body violently ripped in half, his now dead face filled with horror and shock. His top half was hanging from the vines and thorns in the trees, beaten and bloody. The bottom half of his body stood up from the group and his feet were planted down. This was just as beaten and broken as the upper body had been. Almost like a tree, its trunk chopped off and left on the ground with only its stump remaining. The woodworker ran out of the woods in terror, and the townsfolk were shocked to hear this news.

A few days after the body had finally been taken away and buried, a young woman and some other townsfolk came to the forest's huge river to dump their trash. It was the way the town kept the area clean, after all. Throw it in the river and it's lost forever and ever. She waited for a friend. It was odd considering her friend always arrived earlier than everyone else, as she threw away her trash bags and chatted with her neighbors. The trash piles smelled odd today. The smell of rotting meat and metal filled the air. She waited patiently and watched the stream. She noticed that there were more fish than usual and they all appeared to be eating something floating around. She then saw a strange red liquid that stained the brownish water and screamed. Mangled and drowned, her friend's body swam in the forest river. Her stomach was ripped wide open, and the fish ate any organs and bits of skin and flesh that came out. In addition, they ate flowers falling from the vines around her dead body.

More and more of these incidents happened and the townspeople were terrified. People were found nailed and slashed into the trees, buried alive in the soil, roasted alive in the forest, drowned in the river, mutilated by animals, and so many more. The town had decided it would be much safer never to enter the forest again and found other ways to live. However, it led to trash filling up sewers or becoming ash after burning. The river waters were dirty and some fire from nearby trees was being burned. People lure animals out of the woods and hunt them down dead. The thought that avoiding the forest would keep them safe soon changed when something happened in their town. There was a proud hunter on the edge of town near the forest. He would hunt down the biggest animals in the world and plant their heads down on the walls. One day, his wife and children noticed he had not come downstairs and his wife rushed up to check on him. She found his body lying mangled and torn on the floor, and his head planted on the wall. The walls were tangled with vines and birds flew down to eat the exposed flesh.

Following the incidents, vines and thorns began to grow in more and more places over the next few days. Buildings, houses, roads, lamps, walls, and everything. After a while, thick vines and thorns suddenly appeared and wrapped around the town one day, making it impossible for people to leave the town. The people panicked and cut through the vines only to be strangled or, even more shockingly, slowly turned into wood. It became darker as more vines and thorns covered the town's sky. It was then that something suddenly arose and blossomed from the walls above the town, seemingly from nowhere.

It formed out of tarmac and plants. It towered over humans and stood with such power that people quivered. Its body was made of wood. Hair made of vines and moss with thorn-filled branches forming sharp horns and claws. It wore a dress that grew out of its wooden body with moss covering it entirely. It had black flowers growing around its head. Its face seemed almost like an empty wooden mask, with its only true detail being its eyes. The eyes themselves were empty and soulless, yet filled with rage and vengeance. It began to speak in a voice that sounded like an angry mother. As its voice boomed over the town, people fell to the ground on their knees. "You have harmed my children, caused them pain and agony. You caused my world to crumble and burn for your pathetic abomination for years without an inch of regret. I have granted you mercy time and time again, given you warnings and centuries to change your ways. And yet you refuse. Your ancestors and you will now suffer full punishment for the reckless fate you and your families have bestowed upon my family tenfold. Unless your future generations change their ways, they too will suffer the consequences of their actions".

The town and its people vanished the next day. No one saw the fall or heard the screams. The neighboring townspeople only found a large and beautiful field of flowers and trees where the town used to be. Children from the former town played inside it. The neighboring town took them in and cared for them. They had no memory of what had happened or come before. They said they woke up in an empty field with no town in sight, and that was all they remembered. However, every night when the children went to sleep, they recited a warning to anyone who heard:

Hear my words, for it’ll do you good. She loves her children like a good mother should

You may come near but you must keep them neat, the children will love you and give you a treat

But take and throw away too much, the plants and creatures will scream and such

So Love all on this Earth or else one day, Mother will come and take you away

Prompts about a superhero who finds out their parent is a villain?

“You’re evil!”Their parent sighed. “Morality is a subjective concept, I’ve taught you that. You break the law every time you go out in that cape.”“I’m a hero, it’s different!”“Name one quantifiably ‘evil’ thing I’ve done.”The teen hero opened their mouth, full of righteous fury. Then closed it. They were sure their parent had been caught doing something evil, yet they couldn’t think of anything. Not a single dastardly crime.

“You are not my mother.”The villainess smiled, ever in control, ever amused by their shuddering rage. “You can deny it all you want, little hero. You were born from me; my blood runs in your veins. My powers are your powers.”“Your morals,” they spat, “are not my morals.”Her smile widened. “Not. Yet.”

“It’s not that I’m trying to control you,” their parent said, a comforting hand on their shoulder, “but I have to keep you safe. You know that right?”“By any means necessary,” they repeated dully, thoughts whirling too fast to spare any inflection.Their parent squeezed their shoulder. “So becoming the city’s most feared supervillain isn’t that outrageous, right? Definitely no worse than Kiera’s mum baking 800 cupcakes for the PTA bake sale.”

Prompt #1490

“It’s not that I’m trying to control you,” their parent said, a comforting hand on their shoulder, “but I have to keep you safe. You know that right?”

“By any means necessary,” they repeated dully, thoughts whirling too fast to spare any inflection.

Their parent squeezed their shoulder. “So becoming the city’s most feared supervillain isn’t that outrageous, right? Definitely no worse than Kiera’s mum baking 800 cupcakes for the PTA bake sale.”

Prompt #1489

“You are not my mother.”

The villainess smiled, ever in control, ever amused by their shuddering rage. “You can deny it all you want, little hero. You were born from me; my blood runs in your veins. My powers are your powers.”

“Your morals,” they spat, “are not my morals.”

Her smile widened. “Not yet.”

“I can’t believe I’ve never noticed before.”

“Noticed what?”

“How similar our powers are.”

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, I think you do.”

"Wake up buddy, we got a bank robbery to stop!"

"Dad, it's like 6 in the morning. Who even robs a bank at that hour on a Saturday?"

"Surprise! You've just been adopted, by me!"

"I'm a kid but even I know that's not how adoption works you jerk!"

"Now now, that's no way to speak to your new parent."

"Whether you like it or not, I am your parent! My suggestion is that you get used to it."

“You can’t adopt me! I already have parents.”

“Oh, well if that was the only thing bothering you, I can fix that.”

“What?”

“Preferably, if you give me your parents’ identities, I can get rid of them right now. Otherwise, I’d have to systematically get rid of all this city’s parents with kids who are roughly your age, gender, and ethnicity. It’d take me a while, but it’ll be worth it to have you as my kid.”

“What is this?”

“My apartment.”

“No it’s not. It’s a violation of human rights. This place is a total dump.”

“Hey, being a superhero isn’t exactly very lucrative. It’s hard to hold on to a steady 9-to-5 when I have to stop you and your friends from wrecking the city everyday.”

“Oh. I…I didn’t know.” Beat. “I could give you some money if you want.”

“I don’t want anything from you! Just, lie down on the couch while I go get the first aid kit from the bathroom.”

“Yeah, I don’t think so. That couch looks like it came from a dumpster. I bet I’ll get tetanus if I so much as touch it.”

“If you don’t like it, you know where the door is.”

“Fine. I’ll lie down on your dumpster couch. Chances are I’ll bleed out before I die of infection anyway.”

“You’re not going to die, unfortunately.”

“I heard that.”

“Good. I meant for you to hear that. Now hold still, this is going to hurt.”

"It's weird. He did a lot of really bad things and hurt a lot of people. I can't forget that. But he was also my dad, and I still love him. Is that messed up?"

“You’re late again.”

“I had to stop a bank robbery.”

You know what I love...

Villains who have their agenda's, have their plans to topple the system and create their own in its place. They're so full of anger and bitterness that they vow to crush those that rule.

And still look at the hero in front of them and say "I'm not going to fight you."

Because this isn't their fight.

There simply tools

And their so young its cruel to thrust them into this...a fight that they will surely die from.

The child doesn't listen but the Villain only blocks, their attacks are weak, untrained and raw and it wouldn't take much to kill them off. But the Villain won't, how can you repair a broken world if you crush the products it created.

The source must be changed, ripped right from the top and so they will not hurt the hero...they let them go and see them again and again... Each time they look worst for wear.

Help is offered but always refused until one day.. Until one day they can no longer attack and sob and cry for help. Their bleeding from wounds they hastily call training and it breaks the bad guys heart.

It only strengthens their resolve, to end those selfish egotistical spawns...Who sit comfortably on their thrones using children as pawns.

"You're a child." Villain spat out, horrified as they stared into the wide eyes of their clearly underage rival.

"Wh-no I'm not!" Hero yelped, then winced as the higher pitch gave them away further. They hunched into themselves, subconsciously trying to appear even smaller.

"Where are your parents?!" Villain demanded, storming forward to grab Hero by the shoulders, "do they know you're fu-freaking doing this?!" Angry as they were, Villain tried not to swear - kids didn't need to hear that kind of language, after all.

"..."

Hero averted their watering eyes, trembling as Villain stared them down. They'd never seen the other so furious.

"I don't..." they licked dry lips nervously, "I don't have parents."

Villain's mind went black for a moment, vision filling with the shivering form of the literal child they'd been fighting.

"...you're an Orphan," it wasn't a question, but instead a surprisingly bland statement, "of course you are."

Something in Villain's tone made Hero look up, made them gaze into the unwavering form of their adversary, where they found a glint of determination in the other's eyes.

"Screw it-" they scooped Hero into their arms, ignoring the spluttering and struggling, "you need someone to keep an eye on you, and I've always wanted kids."

"— I can care of myself, Always did! Is not gonna change now, Mum didn't cared this much why you wanna do? U shouldn't either!" The hero yells frustrated, the villain eyed them with worry.

The hero didn't wanted cookies and play things, They're the hero that was supposed to take down the villain! if only they stopped being so stubborn.

" — That's child abuse, I refuse to fight a kid" Says the villain wondering how much time it would take to child protection services listen to their call.

"— I grew faster than anyone, I'm not a damn kid! I don't play and whine like them, I don't even have time for that!" The child looked miserable, their eyes watering at every angry pitched scream.

"— What the heck they did?" The villain's voice creaks, Anger filled his whole being, How dare they? This small chaotic gremlin will have a childhood, They would spoil them rotten and let the world burn with it's own darkness.

Hello, I have a prompt request for a hero’s failed attempts to escape an arranged marriage with the villain, hope you’re having a good fall!

“I do hope getting married in secret before we could be engaged wasn’t your plan, was it? You see, no one would dare touch you. Not when you’re meant to be mine, not when they know what I would do to them.”“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”“Oh,” said the villain, holding up the plans that the hero was sure they had burned in the fireplace, “don’t you?”

—–

“Just let me go!” they cried. “You don’t love me, and I don’t love you. What are you forcing me to stay for, your own sick enjoyment? Just to watch me drown in misery?”“I keep you for the status,” the villain replied, crisp and entirely businesslike. “Because you’re my conquest, the symbol of my victory. You should be glad I let you roam free as my partner-to-be, rather than keeping you in a cage as a trophy.”

—–

They had evaded the staff, the security, the dogs and the motion sensors, the cameras and the keypads. Now they stood at the edge of the villain’s property, with only a chainlink fence separating them from freedom.A chainlink fence, and the villain themself. “You weren’t trying to escape, were you?” The villain fluttered their eyelashes, a cruel smile playing on their lips. “After all, that might hurt my feelings. You wouldn’t want to risk that, would you?”

Snippet 4

The door closes behind them, leaving them all alone. In the room. In the bedroom. With the lone bed looming over them.

It was their wedding night.

Hero swallows hard, grabbing the white dress and moving away from her nemesis. The only reason why she married him was because of their families, their families who had no idea they were enemies.

"Well," Villain spoke up, turning to his enemy with a wry smile. "That's that. That just leaves us and some traditions. Don't it?" He takes his jacket off, raising his eyebrows at her.

Hero clenched her jaw. "If you think for one second-"

"Relax." Villain rolls his eyes. "I don't wanna do it with you either, it's best I don't really follow traditions."

"Me either." Hero crosses her arms.

"But..." Villain starts. "It is tradition."

Hero looks at him, narrowing her eyes.

"But I'm not evil." Villain scoffs. "That...evil." He corrects.

Hero rolls her eyes.

Prompt #333

I absolutely love hero x villain arranged marriages so seeing this as a requested really got my brain going! I’m really glad you love my writing and I hope you enjoy!

Continuation

“Sometimes, I suspect you’re happier to spend time with these weeds than you are to spend time with me.” [Super Villain]’s smile didn’t reach their eyes as they loomed over [Hero].

“Is that so hard to believe?” [Hero] said, their voice calm and flat, the fire having long turned to ice.

“Grass can’t provide for you.”

“No,” [Hero] hummed as they carefully cut the stem of the rose they had been admiring, “But I can choose whether or not to be in its company.”

“You chose to be in mine.” [Super Villain] replied, and [Hero] admired how the roses changed colors between their shadow and the sun’s light.

“Only because the alternative was worse, though somedays I wonder if that really was the case.”

[Hero] could feel [Super Villain]’s anger behind them, but they refused to turn. They long since tired of this game and long since stopped wondering if [Super Villain]’s threats held weight.

“You will be happy with me.” [Super Villain] growled before they stalked away, leaving [Hero] to decide if that was a threat or a promise.

Don't Let Me Down ♔♕ pt. 4

Warnings: Past Trauma, Eventual Smut, Mature Themes, Violence, Language, Dark Themes Kinda, betrayal, cheating.

@talkingsperm @urmyhopeeee

..........

Supervillain stared at her.

She looked so peaceful, so innocent and kind. But he knew it was a lie, he had heard of her extraordinary powers. It was why his father had picked her.

This marriage was being forced on her as much as it was being forced on him. He didn't want to marry anyone, he was better off alone without someone to stop him. Much less a hero.

Plus, he didn't need some type of weakness.

He was in the comfort of his limo, the young hero laid on the other side of the seat. She was out of it, being injected with something that will knock someone out for 72 hours. The heroes were smart to create something like that.

They were heading to the airport so they can leave for Venezuela. His stepmother and people had probably all heard the news, along with the rest of the world. Amazing, he thought sarcastically.

He picked up his tablet where Hero's information was set up, he read through all of it.

It was impressive. She was impressive.

She was brought to the Organization when she was 3 by Superhero mysteriously. Her powers were like no other, on top of that, she could control people if she trained hard enough.

She had the potential to become the most powerful women in the world. And yet, the industry were probably holding her back.

He glanced towards her, noting her chestnut colored hair and pink lips. He narrows his eyes at her, he could tell she was also an innocent in this, seeing as she was forced to marry him. He wouldn't blame her.

But he wanted too, even though it wasn't her fault.

His father was an idiot. What good would this do? Nothing. The hero industry was stupid, really stupid and idiotic. The level of selfishness they had was beyond any villains selfishness. Atleast Villains actually did what they wanted too, the heroes only wanted fame, glory and money.

He looks up when he sees them approaching the airport. He puts the iPad down, looking at Hero.

.....

Hero blinks, feeling a headache coming on. A groan escapes, her hand going to her head. She slowly sits up, ignoring the stiffness of her back and neck.

"About time you woke up,"

Hero jumps, squealing. She turns towards the side to see......

Supervillain staring at her, his face emotionless.

She swallows hard, trembling slightly. This couldn't be possible, she couldn't be in front of history's most ruthless killer. The last thing she remembers is...being tranquilized by Superhero.

Supervillain tilts his head, watching as many emotions pass through the little hero's face. Confusion, pain, sadness, betrayal and fear.

Hero hesitatinly look at Supervillain, her hands shaking. "Where am I?" She asks, surprised that her voice didn't waver.

Supervillain walks away from the her. "You are on my private jet and we are on our way to Venezuela, in case your wondering, Superhero darted you." He tells her with a shrug.

Hero only stares at him.

Reality of everything set in. Superhero had really just given her away, like a mare. Like she was something to be bought over. Like an object or thing. He had given her to the villains.

All because she was the best, but she didn't think so. The only good thing about her was her powers, that's probably why he picked her. Why give her away? Because of her powers.

All because of her damn powers.

She should have run away.

Supervillain leans back against the side bar, his eyes still on her. "If your gonna run or try to stop this marriage, don't. I've already tried," he grumbles.

"Mastermind..." Hero trails off.

"He's still with Superhero and the others. He needs to clear a few things, maybe get another hero." Supervillain shrugs.

"Than why pick me?" Hero frowns.

"Why not pick you?" Supervillain raised an eyebrow. "I didn't pick you, my father and Superhero did."

Hero looks away, crossing her arms. She trembles, shivering. "Is there no way out of this?" She asks quietly.

"I'm afraid not," Supervillain rolls his eyes. "I tried to stop it, but they are hellbent on this marriage. Consent or not." He scowls, glaring out the window.

"Why would you agree?"

Supervillain scoffs. "You think I agreed to this? I didn't. Mastermind is making me do this, little Hero. I don't have a fucking choice in this," he scowls, glancing at her with his cold eyes.

Hero flinches.

"I've accepted this as a business proposal, nothing else. It's about time you probably do too." Supervillain says. "It there was a way to stop this, I would. However, the hard drive is really...valuable." He trails off.

"Your not gonna give them the real one." Hero realizes, "Your gonna give them a copy."

Supervillain turns to her, a smirk growing on his lips. "Superhero was right, you are intelligent. You must be the first hero I have met who isn't dumb and only out for glory."

Hero narrows her eyes at him, clenching her fists.

Supervillain eyes her, looking a bit impressed. "And your not scared unlike some people..." he hums. "Superhero also said you could think like a villain to catch the villains and criminals, I'm wondering if it's true or not."

Hero clenches her jaw.

"Because to be honest. I don't see it," He moves closer towards her. "I wonder, how did you figure it out?"

"I'm not stupid." Hero says, almost quietly. "When Mastermind first proposed the idea I had an inkling of what might happen. Your villains, your not loyal to anyone but yourselves. Plus, trading a hard drive that may just help you win this stupid war?" She raised an eyebrow. "You guys aren't stupid to give it away for one measly hero."

Supervillain stares at her.

Hero gets up, standing in front of him. Her eyes were like a raging fire as she glared at him. "I'm not marrying you, it's not gonna happen." She hissed.

Supervillain continues staring at her.

"Did you hear me?" Her angry eyes were lit like a forest fire, delving deeper in the woods to destroy everything. "This is not gonna happen."

Supervillain smirks.

"What? What are you so smug about?" Hero crosses her arms over her chest, glaring at him.

Supervillain moves closer towards her, causing her to falter slightly. "You must be the first person in the world, other then my father..." he hums, looking her up and down. "...to threaten me and look at me like that."

Hero pauses, breathing heavily.

He walks around her in a circle, humming and eyeing her like a predator does to his prey. "I kinda like it. You have fire," he states, stopping behind her.

He leans in to whisper in her ear. "I love fire." He states.

Hero swallows hard, digging her nails into her palms. She hates this, she hates this so much. "It's not happening," She grits out.

Supervillain snorts, walking away from her. "Yeah. Of course not." He rolls his eyes. "Sweetheart, we don't have a choice."

"But your Supervillain, can't you stoo this?" Hero frowns.

Supervillain shoots her a look, a ironic smile on his face. "I appreciate the fact that you think I'm powerful. But refusing my Father? Yeah, no thank you."

Hero frowns, hugging herself. She's never felt so alone then she has now.

"Besides. It's not we like each other, and it's not like we'll fall in love or something." Supervillain snorts. "We'll just stay out of each other's business. You'll be moving in my Villa for about 3 months and then we have to go back to the Hero Industry for the engagement and the wedding."

Hero lisens keenly, feeling numb. This wasn't supposed to happen. She was supposed to be with...with...Other Hero.

No.

He had cheated on her. With Vigilante of all people, she wasn't even that special! Sure, she had been competing with Hero for best heroic skills and beauty (Which Hero won, both of them) but that doesn't explain why he cheated on her.

She pauses. She remembers his earlier statements. Did he really mean all those hurtful words? Did he really just give her up so he cane number one? What would Sidekick? What would he do without her?

"Then you'll move in with me in my villa," Supervillain starts explaining. "We'll live there with the rest of my family. But don't worry, we won't have to see each other at all." He sighs. "You'll meet my stepmother seeing as you already met Mastermind. You'll meet my half siblings and my little sister."

Hero stays silent.

"Now, let me make one thing clear." Supervillain starts in a low tone. "This is only a marriage of inconvenience, and I'm sure you agree." He looks at her.

Hero nods once.

"Good. Because just like the deal, this marriage is not important." Supervillain scoffs. "And despite what Mastermind wants, it's not happening." He was choosing to not directly say something about the...grandchildren.

Hero agreed. No way, no how. It's not happening. It's never happening. She wanted to ask why he called Masterminds by his name but she wasn't that stupid.

This was still Supervillain. The most dangerous criminal in the world. She wasn't gonna take her chance.

"Now." Supervillain sighs, going to take a seat near the window. "Do you need anything?"

Hero shakes her head, opting to not use her voice.

"Alright. You might wanna sleep for a while." He tell her. "The flight will take a few more hours."

Hero nods silently.

Well, it seems as if her life was beginning to take form. And not in a good way.

Ooh any prompts for hero x villain marriages of convenience?

CW: Some of these involve a forced relationship and could be toxic depending on how it’s written and the intentions of the characters.

1. When Supervillain takes over the city, Hero can’t risk seeming like a threat, so they lure their old nemesis, Villain, into a marriage proposal to get closer to Supervillain’s inner circle.

2. Villain and Hero are both tired of being ridiculed for their eternal singleness thanks to their jobs. One breakdown and marriage ceremony later, they can finally rub it in everyone’s faces that they’re not alone anymore.

3. When tensions in the city rise to dangerous proportions, Hero and Villain agree something must be done to bring peace. As the heads of their organizations, they decide marriage is the quickest and most symbolic bridge they can build between their teams before they rip each other apart.

4. Hero needs financial support and Villain needs a better civilian cover for their villain identity. They’re a match made in…convenience.

5. Hero isn’t exactly friends with villain, but they don’t want them dead either. So when the agency puts a kill order on Villain’s villain persona, they allow them to temporarily crash at their place. But when their colleagues unexpectedly show up they both panic and up lying that they are Hero’s fiancé. Now they’re goinf through with the wedding for the sake of Hero’s honor and Villain’s survival.

6. (A classic) Villain/Supervillain has the means to take over or destroy the city. They will only stand down if Hero agrees to marry them.

7. (Not so classic) Hero has the power to kill/destroy the lives of Villain’s criminal team unless the agree to surrender and marry them.

8. Villain has a dangerous ex who wants to get back together. When Villain panics about what to do, Hero suggests getting married and annulling it later once Villain feels safe.

9. Villain and Hero temporarily team up for the greater good, and go undercover as a married couple. Worried that people might investigate the legitimacy of their relationship, they get married for real.

10. Hero and Villain have had long but not very lucrative careers in their respective roles. They can only afford retirement it if they put their money together, and they figure getting married will simplify the whole thing.

11. When Hero/Villain is going to be forced into marriage, their nemesis offers to step in and marry them instead. Hero/Villain figures anyone is better than their current option and agrees.

12. Villain/Hero accidentally proposes to their nemesis and now they don’t have the heart to tell them it was a misunderstanding. Married life is actually kind of nice.

the writing challenge, day two

                                                           II

The human shuffled through the third drawer, still no sight of anything helpful, anything sharp, anything heavy. Surely the villain must keep something of these sorts? Yet all they managed to find were a few heavier books, the rest useless.

There had to be a way. They were so close.

Helplessly, the hero plonked themselves down on the sofa. The pain shot through their spine, reminding them of the bruises the villain marked on their body. With a hiss, they turned over to their back. For a few minutes they stared at the magnolias. Still fresh, somehow. The light breaking through the water, its reflection-

Oh.

The hero touched the vase delicately, scared of their last hope disappearing in the shadows. The cold surface brushed their fingertips. Glass.

                                                          ~

The hero traced the glass wall. It seemed thin enough. They clutched the vase in their hand and took a few steps back.

Bang.

No. No, no, no. The hero watched the barely scratched wall in disbelief.

They picked up the biggest piece and swung again, using all strength left in their body.

A scratch, maybe two.

They took the biggest piece of glass and clung onto the glass wall, hitting it over and over again, until they felt like puking and tears were running down their face and the hand holding the glass was now the hand dripping with blood.

Still, the glass didn’t shatter.

Their forehead touched the cold surface when someone’s arms wrapped around their waist and yanked them backward.

“Oh, darling. You’ve made quite a mess.”

The hero let out a cry. The villain couldn’t be here. He was out, he- the car was missing, no way he could get here-

The villain turned them around, his fingers gently brushing over the hero’s red eyes and cheeks before he considered their hand. The hero clenched it but the trembling of their body was becoming visible.

The villain’s gaze pierced them, his pupils growing barely noticeably.

The hero gaze dropped on the floor.“Please, don’t- I won’t do that again, I pro-”

The villain pressed his fingers to their throat, forcing them to look up.

“It’ll only be worse if you try to resist.”

The hero stumbled, their knees weak. The last thing they did before the spell started working was to put the small glass fragment in their pocket. They couldn’t not look now and even if they could, they wouldn’t.

“Come here,” the villain said, and the hero fell into his arms.

After, when their hand had been bandaged and their head rested on the villain’s chest they tried to remember what they did today but the images were blurry and the more they thought about it, the bigger the headache grew. They let the villain play with their hair as the numbness washed over their body.

Heels. Hero hated the sound of heels. Usually, he could tell what mood Villainess was in by how loud and precise the steps were. This time was different.

The steps were sharper, which typically meant she was determined, but this sound was different. It sounds...hollow. What did that mean? He didn't know, and there wasn't anything he could do to find out, seeing as he was shackled against the wall, except wait until she opened the door- which she did.

White light flooded into the room, and Hero had the sense to close his eyes immediately after he heard the lock of the door click. He let his vision adjust beneath his eyelids before opening them. Not without a couple of claws digging around in his stomach.

It happened- his body's discomfort- every time he acknowledged Villainess was in the same building as him. And when she was in the same room as him- when Hero could see her- his throat swelled like it was trying to keep down the stomach acid he knew his body was trying to toss.

Watching her step in now, Hero had to suppress the whine in his throat. He felt so pathetic, felt like a puppy dog begging for attention. Only, attention was the last thing Hero wanted- because attention was a code word for pain.

Villainess hummed. "What say you we do today?"

Hero only swallowed and screwed his eyes shut. The mere image of Villainess sent him into flurries of panic, and oftentimes begging. Instead, he hyper-focused on any amount of wrath he felt. Hero thoughts of his friends- his team. He wanted to return to them so badly, but his wishful thinking didn't last.

"Come on. Pipe up!" Villainess screeched. "I'm in a good mood today!"

Which is exactly why I'm not. The thought wasn't quipy, not at all. Hero imagined his voice being dreadfully tired; it's how he felt.

"You haven't asked why I'm dressed up."

Hero had noticed the stilettos, and even acknowledged that that was why Villainess' steps had been so much more piercing than usual. Most times she wore clacky boots. Not today.

"I have a banquet to attend to. I'm hostess, actually."

The hero groaned, waiting and waiting for Villainous to do something, anything. The anticipation was worse than the torture itself- so he liked to think.

"Bored, are you? Then how about you tell me what we're doing today?"

He shook his head, eyes still closed. Why did she always try to make him choose how she would torment him? It was cruel, and entirely undeserved. "May-maybe you should just- should get ready for your-"

"What do you think I'm doing now?" Hero looked up, only to see Villainess' mouth lift at either corner.

Don't tell me-

"You are going to the banquet, too. Only," She gripped his pretty chin, tilting it to either side. Villainess hummed. "Did you ever watch Beauty and the Beast?" She waited, but when Hero delivered a continued silence, she demanded an answer, to which he nodded. "Good. Then my little rose will be familiar with his glass cage."

Hero swallowed, tried to pull his head away from her hand, but she followed him in whatever limited space he had. "Is that it then? I'm just going to be on display?" His voice was hopeful, but still shaky. Hero doubted it would be that easy. And he was right.

Villainess' hand finally slid away from her captive's chin, but slid to his shoulder. She picked an invisible fleck off the shoulder of his tattered shirt. "I wish I could mend clothes like I did your skin." Hero shuddered at his too many memories of sliced skin. Villainess was a healer. Any prick, scratch, or mortal wound could be repaired to extraordinary health in a snap. Or she could take her time. It depended on her mood most days.

"But maybe not. I do like your skin. It'd be a shame to always have it covered in cloth." Villainess ran her hand across the holes of Hero's shirt. Her eyes lit up as she saw the goosebumps riddling his flesh. "You know what I'll do?" She took several steps backwards, eyeing Hero like he was bait. Villainess giggled. "I'll write the names of your friends on your arms after I rip the sleeves off."

Hero squinted at his tormentor. "You'll write them?" He tried not to think of what their names meant, or rather what Villainess would intend for them to mean. Instead of seeing their names and thinking of himself as a failure for being caught, he would see himself as- as a distraction. Yeah, that was it. Hero was a distraction. Because as long as Villainess was focused on him, she wouldn't bother trying to find the others.

"Not with ink, silly."

How many times had Hero swallowed since Villainess stepped in today? "With wha- how are you-"

"Well first I'll need a cutting tool. How do you feel about scalpels? I find them to be very convenient." Villainess sighed and let her hand fall from the hero's body. "So much work, so little time. You know your one friend has an eleven letter name? Ridiculous. I'm not even sure I can pronounce it."

Hero grunted. He didn't know if he could handle another day of torture. Every day was the same. Every day, Villainess came in and scraped him down to the bone, or raggedly cut patches of his hair off- oftentimes ticking off pieces of his scalp, or any other amount of physical tortures. "I don't- Please. I can't-"

Villainess stopped, faced her precious prize again. "Well, go on, then."

The worst thing about the villainess having the ability to heal was that nearly everything about her was perfect. If anything became askew- like a broken nose- she could fix it. Even worse, she could make it straighter than it ever was before.

Her ability meant that her teeth, as wolfish as they were, were perfectly straight, perfectly polished, and perfectly spine-chilling.

"If you can't handle it, then try to escape."

For the first time since he'd been captured, Hero snarled. And he did yank at his restraints. The metal holding him to the wall bit against his wrists. His elbows were thrown forward, but otherwise, he hardly moved at all.

He spat, "They'll come for me. They'll come, and they'll kill you before freeing me." Hero hated the way his stomach twisted further as Villainess' smile fell into a straight line. No doubt she was still amused, but whatever was about to happen, it was serious, and Hero didn't know how to prepare for it.

Villainess began the tiny trek back to her captive, eventually leaning into Hero and placing her elbows on his arms- keeping them pinned to the wall. She chuckled, pressing a finger against his lips. Surprised he wasn't biting, she told him in a delicate whisper, "They are dead. Just like I am myself in your dreams." Villainess didn't give him time to bite. She moved her hand from Hero's lips to his chin, grasping it between her slender, witchy fingers, and then throwing his head to the side. Villainess put her weight on a single heel before spinning her back to Hero and walking out, hollering before she shut the door, "I'll be back with my equipment in just a moment, love."

The door shut, and all Hero could do was listen as her footsteps retreated, only to hear them come back again. It couldn't be true, could it? That his team was dead? But then why else would Villainess keep him alive?

She wants a trophy to present. And if the rest of the heroes were dead, Hero was the only thing left to show. Villainess would keep him forever just to remind him- and everyone else- that she'd won.

Learning to Love Part 4

image

We certianly can! and I’m glad you enjoyed it, I hope you like this one too!

Original  Previous  Next

[Hero] decided that the worst part is they could feel it happening. Maybe if they were less self-aware of how their thought gradually began to change, how their body longed for [Villain]’s touch when they weren’t there, it would be more bearable. Maybe it would feel like falling asleep or falling in love, a gentle drift into the night.

No, this felt like a war as their heart both sank and soared when [Villain]’s smile came into view. It felt like a bloody fight trying to desperately stay alive, to stay themselves.

“It’s alright lovely,” [Villain] would whisper into their ear when they were finally able to cry. “Things will be better soon,” they cooed as they caressed their hand down [Hero]’s spine, causing them to shiver.

[Hero] desperately hoped they were right as they melted into their arms.

Continuation of Prompt #191

@chaoticgoodandi requested a continuation on Prompt #191 so here it is! I hope you enjoy!

Original  Next

[Hero] woke up dazed and confused, handcuffed to an admittedly comfortable bed. Whatever they had been injected weighed down on their body and mind, suffocating them as they desperately tried to take in their surroundings.

The last thing they remembered was falling asleep in their bed, which means whoever did this has access to their home. [Hero] shuddered at the thought, knowing now escaping would only be the beginning.

They heard the doorknob turn to their room, and their eyes darted over to watch fearfully whoever would enter. Their blood running ice-cold as they saw [Villain] walk in with a gentle smile.

“You’re awake, darling.” [Villain] said, their voice as soft as a feather and words as smooth and sweet as honey, “I’m so glad.”

[Hero] tried to struggle as [Villain] swiftly moved to their bedside, but their body wouldn’t cooperate.

“You must be scared,” [Villain] soothed them, gently stroking their face, “But you mustn’t worry anymore. You’re safe here.”

[Villan]’s smile widened, the mania in their eyes glinting as they gazed down upon [Hero]’s limp body, “You’re safe here with me.”
