Analyzing The Abilities of Characters From The Boys Pt. I
⭐️Starlight⭐️
Annie’s definitely one of my favorites and I think her ability’s one of the more straight forward of the cast. She’s photokinetic, but for the brunt of the show she’s entirely dependent on synthetic/inorganic light. Without this electrical, manmade light she was “powerless”, and at the beginning of Season 4, she fully lost her ability to channel this light whatsoever. This is all symbolic of her perceived reliance on the limelight to stay relevant and important. She was raised on paparazzi shots and baptized in spotlights, so up until more recently that was the only “power source” she had. I like to imagine that now, specifically because the S4 finale didn’t show her draining the car while Hughie was driving, she’s drawing on either natural light to hint at her newfound desire for authenticity and hard truths, or internal light to draw on her own resilience and self actualization she gained through strangling a doppelgänger that taunted her lack of identity.
Thinking about Victoria Neuman. Thinking about how she grew up in a world that refused to accept her as a WOC, so Stan took advantage of that to morph her into a hitgirl. Thinking about how the only way she imagined abolishing prejudice and carving out a better world for her daughter being hostile takeover.
Aphrodite summer
i cant wait to honor Lady Aphrodite this summer!!!
Okay this is what I’m talking about with my girl Louise. She only would have had one chance to give up her tail, but that was 50 years ago when Gracie gave hers up, and as we saw from that scene, and based on the fact that Louise and Julia both kept their lockets as reminders of what once was/the truth of what they are, both Julia and Louise were mermaids up until the end. As a kid I remembered her losing her tail/simply not having it anymore, but whenever I rewatch I love the subtle, unspoken detail that she never once touches water. Yes, she’s more comfortable being near water, but one of the first times she’s introduced she’s holding her hand just above the water at the Marine Park, insinuating that she still can’t get wet, and that she’s still very much so a mermaid.
this is why i always believe ms chatham got her tail back bc to believe anything else is too depressing

Rapid fire main feeling/takeaways
- While I’m deeply upset we didn’t get to see the hostile takeover like in comics, the ending scene gives me hope for a bizarre dystopian Season 5 with all super humans having dominion over America, especially with a Gen V S2 tie in.
- I was waiting to see Ashley’s mutation, assuming it would be some Marvel’s Medusa style hair manipulation judging how her skull started moving.
- Why is no one talking about Kimiko finally having a strong enough tether to Frenchie that she SCREAMED? She wanted this at the beginning of the season, and I’m glad they didn’t just ignore it for her character arc.
- I’m not surprised Vicky got killed, but it annoyed me that it happened when she was fully surrendering and her daughter was ultimately subjected to her same tragic past at Red River.
- Grace deserved it, sorta kinda. Why was she provoking a young boy who clearly can’t control his abilities by offloading every horrible thing about him to his face like that was going to yield something positive? I liked her, but the second that scene began I knew her fate was sealed.
- I really thought Firecracker was going to fully die from some overdose/disease because of the milk pills, but now I’m thinking that pretty much every supe that takes part in this New World Order are going to get killed by Butcher/the virus. Probably (better not be) Annie, Kimiko, or Ryan, and I’m assuming the gang from Godolkin would also find an antidote or safe haven as well.
I kind of feel like “The Idol” got a bad run. The finale showed how engaging it could’ve been if the project didn’t make smut its number one goal. I’m obsessed with getting inside looks at the rich and famous through dramas like “Gossip Girl”, but I wish The Idol explored other aspects of fame as opposed to…The Weekend…
i sing to thee, poseidon — o lord of the everdark waters — to him who moves the earth, who feeds from the fruitless sea, o savior, helper, destroyer, & god — i sing to thee. give me the heart to look upon the storm ; give grace to my feet, let me step through upon unbroken water & let the earth tremble with your strength. lord of the sea — vast and endless is your glory as radiant as sunlight through gentle tides ; bless me to be as foam upon the waters — spray upon the wind — my boat unshattered and constantly sailing towards your sharp horizons —
