All Vanessa could do was nod. It wasnât her place to really question or need to know anymore than was being told to her. Vanessa purposely stayed out Athletics to avoid comparisons to her brothers and her little crush on the Dallas boy who lived down the block. The Hounds were known and the reputation of the kind of girls that appealed to them was legendary to the town coining a nickname for those kind of girls. Her father always warned what happened to those kind of girls.âItâs really not my business. You donât have to explain,â she explained, nonchalantly.Â
âWhat gave it away?â Vanessa was shy in the most traditional sense, but when it came performing Vanessa shined. She didnât need words or brains to try and impress people, just being in tune with her body was enough. Her movements said all her words were too shaken to say. âUnfortunately, ballerinas donât have the luxury of Wrestlers and Hockey players where all you have to do is bulk up and block. I tend to bake more than I actually get to enjoy,â Vanessa replied playfully.Â
And soon as the idea of other plans came up, Vanessa felt herself whimpering away a bit. If there was something he felt was more important to go to it felt better to give permission than to bee stood up. Or at least thatâs how she thought of it. âWe could meet after if you want?â Cheeks flushing immediately red as the words beautiful escaped her lips. âNo nickname needed. V or Nessa usually gets my attention.âÂ
He bit his lip, a nervous habit he picked up when he was younger. Not often did he get nervous with girls, but then again none of the girls that he was around were like vanessa. Not immediately trying anything she could to bed him, instead actually holding a conversation. She was quiet, but not in a weird way, it was endearing, it made him want to learn more. Dallas wanted to learn about her, get to know the girl hiding in the shadows. âBut I want you to know the truth, theres a million rumors surrounding the team and yet no one really knows the truth but us,âÂ
âNot saying anything, but youre tinier than most humans in the height department. And they tend to be able to be lifted in the air easier, and move lighter on their feet,â He spoke, the few amounts of dance knowledge he got from his siblings and cousins, âAnd theres not a lot of gymnasts around here, which is ironically made for smaller people based on the movements, but youd need a little but more muscle mass and calloused hands for that one,â he joked, before laughing lightly, âill give you, it does have its perks but we still have to be cautious of what we eat, not everything is made for healthy bulking. However, I was taught to never turn down baked goods from a known female,â sending a wink at her before smiling softly.
Dallas shook his head, âive been to more than enough team after parties, its always the same thing. Id rather spend time with my new best friend, get to know you better, and maybe introduce you to some fun spots around town,â Nodding at the nicknames, âTheyre nice, but I want something unique, something like,â pausing as he mused over the thoughts in his brain, âVanni,â

Matias has really only found himself in the mall for one of two reasons, himself or a family member needed a new phone due to the last being broken. Or they needed new clothes. He wasnât there just to have a fun shopping trip, nor did he really have the extra money. But that was his life, and he was content saving what extra cash he had for other necessities, or at least how he deemed necessary.
Granted he also had been avoiding the shopping center for more reasons. He knew she enjoyed the place, and spending the money for the latest fashion. Not that he had minded coming with her, carrying the bags from store to store and getting the private fashion shows. But he didnât want to be the guy who only showed up when he wanted her, but he could never find himself able to commit the way she wanted or deserved. âHi,â he spoke back, his hand rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
There was something about the girl that was able to captivate Matias that no one else could, and that was why he kept going back to her. She made the summer time easier, having the youngest siblings home more often than not, and his local amusement park job always sparking back up. He was busier than a ticket booth at Coachella, but she was the part that slowed it all down and made the moments count. Only for him to consistently fuck it up when the winter rolled back around, a cycle he couldnât find himself to break even if he knew better. âJoel broke his phone, again, and apparently the 17 year old boy can not find the time to get his own phone,â he spoke with an eye roll, âBut I guess it was worth it for the pretty girl I spotted,â

Between his sister coming back around again, and his mother downing more bottles than he could count life had been a blur the past couple of months for Matias. Last year at this time he had met Mckenzi the girl having quickly became a soft spot in his dark world. But it was just a fling, or at least thatâs what he told himself when he regrettably cut her out. She was too pure to let into his secrets, his mind getting controlled by the substances slowly but surely. The people he began to allow into his life, whether it was business or pleasure, werenât good people to be around, and he wasnât going to expose her to that lifestyle.
But he couldnât help himself when he spotted her in the large crowd at the shopping center. His sneaker clad feet almost instinctively dragging himself in her direction. He knew better, he had just sort of up and left her, not really giving her the explanation she wanted or deserved. And yet, the blonde hair and electric blue eyes were drawing him in just like the first time. A smirk falling to his lips once he caught her gaze, âLooking as fine as ever kenz,â his tone dripping with flirtation as always, sending a wink her way.
It was the time of the year for Mckenziâs annual spring shopping spree. She finally got her winter paycheck from the jobs she did throughout the season. Being a model Kenzi had a reputation to uphold including keeping all of her social media profiles up to date. Thanks to modeling, she had expensive taste but it came with the crowd. She enjoyed shopping by herself so she wouldnât be influenced by others since that was fairly common in this industry. She tried to have a certain confidence about herself which included disabling negative comments on said social media. There was a lot the came with the career but it was something she always wanted.Â
The blonde walked out of Macyâs into the town square to see where she wanted to head next. Upon finding a store she caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a ghost from her past. The all familiar face brought a series of flashbacks to last summer from their hot and heavy moments to the cold winded end. Before she knew it she was being approached by the one she used to long for. âHey,â she whispered not sure if he could hear her among the crowd.Â
Her heart fell soft, there was a comfort when she was with Matias. âI havenât seen you in a while.â Mckenzi was oblivious to the fact this happened two years in a row. The summer nights being the best whilst the winter ones were quite the opposite. âWould it be wrong of me to ask what youâre doing here? Or are you stalking me?â She joked, trying to lighten the mood. âI know this really isnât your scene like at all.â

Kai was finally happy, being in an apartment with his sister away from the family they never wanted. Well, most members they didnât want around. There was something blissful being able to do as he pleased and not worry about what was around him. Everything worked, for once it was finally good. âAlright Nessie I got us Chinese food, yes I got whatever your favorite is, donât be so shocked that I know,â his voice traveled around the apartment as he walked through the door, putting his keys on the table.
