WIP Wednesday #3

“I probably should have put this down when I was clipping your wing fur,” she muttered, brushing clumps of fur roughly off the edge of her bed before she lay the towel down where he had been sitting.

“Here,” she patted it, and N clambered back onto the sheets, parking himself in the middle of the cloth. She gently hovered her hands over his waist before placing them there, giving him a little push, and he complied with her silent request, scooting a few inches forward. Uzi smiled and ran her fingers up the small of his back and he straightened up with a cheerful trill. “Alright, lets finally get you sorted.”

---

It's Wednesday again, friends! I have a bit of a longer preview for you guys below the 'read more' because I was feeling particularly soft over them this week hehe. Enjoy a cute little moment where Uzi cleans up her sweet boy!

N watched her curiously, twisting his shoulders to peek back at her, and she gave him an affectionate, yet distracted chin scratch as she reached for the bottle of surgical spirit in her kit, setting it aside. She dumped a bowl of batteries out onto the bedside table, indifferent to the fact they simply rolled right off the edge, and very carefully poured a few glugs of distilled water into its bottom along with the last dregs of the ancient shampoo. The plan was simple enough; she would use this to help tackle his mane, while she used a spare rag dabbed with alcohol to wipe clean the years worth of oil build up on his casing.

Uzi pulled on a pair of vinyl gloves from her kit carefully – even though her body was now host to squishy, probably pretty damp internal organs, the idea of water leaking into the joins of her fingers still filled her with instinctual dread. The last thing she wanted was to fry a circuit in her arm or something - regenerating missing limbs or healing over a gaping hole in her chest was one thing, but she had no idea how well her Solver could cope with water damage.

Scowling at the mixture with apprehension, Uzi pointed a finger at the bowl firmly. “Don’t. Kill me.” She muttered threateningly. She heard N snort, his back bouncing with a little giggle.

“Should I be worried at all about this?”

“No, you’re fine. Probably.” Uzi swirled her protected fingers about carefully in the water until soapy bubbles danced on its surface. She was pretty confident in N’s safety. She was only planning on using the foam itself, and even if a little water made its way onto his casing, he’d spent who-knew-how-long living out in an eternal, deathly snow-storm. Cyn must have made him weatherproof - a few drops of water was probably nothing to him.

Uzi scooped up a handful of soapy bubbled and scrunched them into the fibres of his mane, lathering them between her fingers. Almost instantly the soft, pale pink suds swallowed up the dust and oil, fading to grim greys and near blacks. She worked her fingers through the fur enthusiastically, scrunching and twirling it and massaging the soap into the hairline where it met his casing. She could hear and feel him purring again and she smiled, delighting in how the prickled spines softened as clumps parted into something softer.

“That nice?” She asked fondly, as she watched his tail wag cheerfully.

“Mhm,” he hummed softly. “It’s feels like a massage…”

The colour of his mane was more vibrant than she initially realised. As the years of grime, dust and oil faded with each new addition of shampoo, the dull gold stripes brightened to a vibrant yellow not unlike the hue of the hazard strips lining his wrists, thighs and heels. It already looked so much healthier, despite the haphazard length and missing sections along its stretch. The wonders a simple wash could do for a drone.

With a clean rag, Uzi ruffled the fur from the base of his tail up to between his shoulders to remove the foam, and then, she repeated the process again. She couldn’t deny the relief – this was working, it was actually working. The bubbles foamed a duller pink, but a pink nonetheless, as the last remnants of his life in the wild washed away. This time as she dried his mane, it puffed up; fluffing out and bristling, each individual hair now free from the crusted prisons they had endured.

“It’s pretty,” she didn’t mean to say it out loud, but she was glad she did when N offered her the fondest smile over his shoulder.

“…It is?”

“Yeah,” she pulled the gloves off and tossed them on the floor so that she could truly feel the difference for herself. The tactile sensors of her finger pads revelled in the softness, and how it twitched gently under her fingers as she hovered them slowly over their tips. Then she dug them into the thick fluff, scratching near the roots and N’s whole body rumbled in delighted approval. His tail thumped joyfully against the mattress again, once, twice, and then curled around her, draping itself loosely around her waist.

More Head-canons/analysis Thingys

More head-canons/analysis thingys

Luisa and Mirabel have a really great and sweet relationship. Luisa seems genuinely very kindhearted and like she takes her role as big sister seriously. She also doesn’t treat her differently for having no powers.

When she gets in the way of Luisa, she responds with “careful sis”, unlike Isabela who responds with an angry “what is your problem!?”

image
More Head-canons/analysis Thingys

And unlike Isabela who is jealous and thinks Mirabel has it easy, Luisa is never seen showing that kind of attitude despite being probably one of the most overworked Madrigal, to the point of being compared to a mule (beast of burden).

The one time we see her yell at Mirabel, she apologizes immediately saying “uh, wow… sorry, that snuck out there”, showing that she almost never gets angry at Mirabel, if ever.

In Surface Pressure she tells Mirabel to give her burdens to her and Mirabel smiles for a split second (while Luisa worries about things that will hurt Mirabel). They also don’t have the kind of animosity that Maribel had with Isabela at the start.

image
image

And finally, I mean… look at this 🥺

Mirabel looks so uncertain, I’m wondering if they forgot her again but Luisa noticed and dragged her into the photo.

I hope if a series comes out we will get to explore this dynamic more.

When writing toxic family dynamics

Toxic family stuff isn’t always screaming matches or broken plates. Sometimes it’s quiet control. The expectation to shrink, the pressure to be perfect, the guilt that rides shotgun. It’s complicated. And it’s deeply, deeply personal.

✧ Make the love real, but conditional.  One of the most damaging things about toxic family is the illusion of love. It’s not “I love you no matter what.” It’s “I love you when you obey.” Let your character notice that.

✧ Control shows up in micro ways... Who’s allowed to speak. Who’s allowed to feel. Who apologizes first, even when they’re not wrong. Control doesn’t need to be loud. Sometimes it’s a raised eyebrow or a guilt trip.

✧  Let them question reality. Toxic families are great at gaslighting. Your character might constantly wonder, Was it really that bad? Am I being dramatic? Let them doubt their own memories. That internal confusion is real.

✧ The guilt will be crushing. Leaving a toxic family doesn’t feel empowering at first. It feels selfish. It feels wrong. It feels like betrayal, even when it's survival. Show your character grieving the fantasy of the family they wish they had.

✧ Let them try to earn love. Your character might work their ass off trying to “be good,” hoping maybe this time they’ll be enough. Toxic families move the goalposts. Let that break them a little.

✧ Show emotional whiplash... One moment everything is warm and nostalgic. The next, it’s tense and full of landmines. That unpredictability is the dynamic. Use it.

✧ Don’t make the villain cartoonish. Even the abuser might think they’re doing what’s best. They might bake cookies and say “I’m just worried about you.” That’s what makes it so damaging. Write them like people, flawed, manipulative, real.

✧ Let your character unlearn in layers. Even after they leave, they still flinch. Still fold under pressure. Still crave approval. Recovery isn’t clean. But it’s worth it. And when they finally say no, even just once, let it be electric.

I can't explain it, but Batman needs to be mythologized. In Gotham, that is.

Logically, they know he's just a man, made of skin and bones and blood, like all of them. Those who met him, who had the ill luck to, say he feels like the city itself.

When danger approaches, with the click of a gun or hiss of a knife, it’s not the police people pray to. There's a single name that rivals Gotham‘s, and it’s not them.

So much so, there's whispers of what might happen, about guidelines being stepped. Kinda like how if you're compared to Aphrodite, you might die.

Such as:

If you see a wounded bird, of any kind, take it to a vet, or nurture it back to health. You’ll get robbed otherwise.

Don't wear pearls. Just don't.

Never let your son walk alone at night. Never lay your hands on them, either. The Bat doesn't take kindly to it.

Khan goes through fits of insomnia. His brain is swimming with ideas and urge to create doors. Sometimes there are no more doors that can be put it and he just stays up night after night after night just drawing blueprints to get it out of his system.

He always reaches this point of pure sleep deprived undercharged delirium. Crazed fast rambling, wildly gesturing to his blueprints, pacing around, anxious and snippy.

He can be a bit scary but ultimately harmless. Uzi is so used to it and often falls back on pushing her father towards his room “alright dad I think it’s time you go get some sleep” or gently offering him a nice cup of antifreeze and grease, something that always causes him to become sleepy

“here dad. Here, you love antifreeze!”

30 minutes later Khan is conked out asleep and dead to the world on the sofa with the tv on.

Despite Uzi spending far more time with the DD's in the start it's LIzzy that becomes the nerd expert on DD body language and enrichment. She knows what each and every little tail twitch or sway means, she knows what DD's need to keep them entertained and their hunt kill urges low.

She uses laser pointers on not only with V but N was well. N has yet to catch that almighty red dot that eludes him, maybe one day. V likes to brag she caught it but she's lying, she has not.

Scratching, clawing, chasing, and chewing/biting is a big thing with DD's. They really do love it. It's pretty normal to see DD's chasing worker drones down the halls and such, N does that to. It can be kind of hard to find things for them to chew up or claw on. V gets snipped at for plucking her claws on Lizzy's blankets or furniture. N once got in trouble for the teeth chew marks on a corner wall.

Lizzy actually found J a cat tower and received a big "fuck you i'm not a fat house cat!" 2 hours later she was caught scratching on the tower and batting at the little ball on a string hanging from one of the levels. She gave N one of those little raccoon tails on a ball that rolls around. He loves that thing and can be seen rolling around on the floor with it, biting it, batting it, etc. Lizzy has a little wind up fake mouse toy that she sends down the hallway to watch the DD's fight and chase after it.

DD's don't play nicely, their play consists of what looks like a nasty fight. Lizzy is so used to seeing them throwing each other around. They are just snarling and beating the everloving dog shit out of each other and Lizzy is just all "they are just playing"

Lizzy is also aware and often lets it known that DD's rub their under chin on someone they value greatly. V only does this to Lizzy but N does this to Uzi as well as any friends he makes. It's so normal for N to start rubbing the underside of his chin on helmets! it pretty much means "thank you for being my friend! we are best friends!" and yes he does this to Lizzy to

Everyone is talking about the DD’s having more feral animalistic traits but I headcanon that worker drones also have some traits.

They can’t purr but they do make this cute high pitched grinding noise. It’s short little bursts and it means they are very pleased with something.

They scatter like scared cats when theres a sudden loud noise now. That trait cropped up after the DD’s came to Copper 9.

They enjoy sleeping in very large groups. They feel safer this way, it’s like a schooling behavior.

Families with small pill babies will often times hide away until the baby can walk on its own.

They swat. Much like a cat they tend to bap and swat when irritated with someone or something. It can hurt but it really dosen’t do damage

They show their teeth when being aggressive or showing fear. They pull their lips back and show off their….frankly pathetic teeth in comparison to DD’s. It can be normal to see two drone just standing there near nose to nose just staring and showing their teeth. And yes that can often times mean they are about to fight.

They really like a nice good under the chin scratch. Most do, not all. Sometimes their foot will even twitch just a little

They can and will shake off like a dog. They can do it standing up and prefer doing it that way. They make a rather audible rapid ‘tink clank tink clank tink clank’ sound when they do it. They are more water proof than you think. They can spend a little time submerged in water but past a certain point they will be too far gone and suffer water damage. They also can’t swim so if submerged in deep enough water worker drones will ‘drown’ (die from internal water damage). They do handle rain well enough. Solver drones and DD’s have a longer span of time they can remain submerged.

Tessa 100% joined that trend where they show their dogs or cats various things for no reason, but with her drones.

“Showing my drones various things they’ve never seen before!!”

Cut to clips of her shoving her wallet in N’s face. He just looks confused as heck and pats the top of the wallet a few times with a confused smile.

Handing J an ear of corn. J slowly taking it, looking at it in confusion, then looking back up at Tessa and holding the ear of corn up back to her with a confused expression.

Holding V under the arm pits and showing her the insides of the cupboards. She’s not even awake, she’s in sleep mode and Tessa dosen’t realize it.

Credit to @kuruthecyanserval for getting me stuck on the idea of little baby disassembly drones.

These tiny little wiggly babies that can only make the cutest little mewing sounds.

Their claws are so tiny and useless. Their teeth are hardly big enough to bite through an apple. No tails yet, they slowly devolve those later as they get bigger and bigger.

Once they begin to get their tails in and those tails are at a certain length it’s vital to begin carrying them by the tail or hanging them up by the tail to strengthen the tail and help the disassembly pup get used to using their tails.

The babies began to become bitey, they begin itching to use those new fangs and hunting instincts. Extremely high energy and on the constant hunt.

New born disassembly drones have an odd cap like material over their fangs as they grow in. After those fangs have fully dropped that cap falls or breaks off.

Disassembly drones are more than often born in litters of 2. Of course they have their eyes open and come out as small pills like worker drones. After they transcend that pill form they resemble a newborn puppy much like worker drones. The major immediate difference is the size, disassembly drone pups are much bigger than worker drone pups and possess the headband eyes

Dissasembly drone yap time: they are really good at hiding their young, like, freakishly good at it, the reason? Worker drones. they have learned that disassembly drones chase laser pointers, so the workers use this to lure them out of hiding, to kill them, so the disassembly Drones are now really, really good at hiding stuff

Brutal.

Turning the tables a little there I like it. A baby DD has gotta be the cutest little thing to. Tiiinnnyyyy itty bitty litte claws, itty bitty little teeth

Hi yes hello wondering if you’re a fellow believer of Doll’s father being a solver drone too? Or just a solver drone enjoyer? :3

I have a little head cannon that he was trapped in solver labs to. They tested on him but for some reason male drones don’t seem to have an issue with solver possessions and cannot posses any solver abilities.

But sense they TRIED to infect him he still has little tiny flakes and residual tracks of the solver in his coding. He dosent have any powers but he finds himself craving oil from time to time, salivating when he sees it but not as drawn to consume it as Yeva and Nori are

Healing the Wounds left Behind

Uzi_Doorman_Fiction-Kin (LunarCrystalWrites)

Summary:

She shouldn’t have survived. Those were the words Rebecca lived by every day, every time she remembered that she was living on borrowed time, somehow still alive thanks to some cruel twist of fate, even when Darren, Sam, Braiden and even her little sister Emily were dead and gone. They were gone and yet she was still alive. Left alive to realize she had always been in the wrong, left alive to process new injuries and limitations. Left alive to realize she’d failed her sister in the worst way possible, and she couldn’t even apologize anymore, because Emily was gone and Rebecca’s last words to her were “I hate you, you soft freak!”. Rebecca is alone, so alone she must pull the broken pieces of herself back together. It’s all she can do now.

Writer Jargon 101 ✨

Show, Don’t Tell – The golden rule! Instead of flatly stating emotions, reveal them through actions, dialogue, and sensory details. Like, don’t say, “She was angry.” Show her slamming a door or clenching her fists.

Head-hopping – When you switch POVs in the middle of a scene without clear demarcation. It's confusing and jarring, like taking a sudden detour while driving.

Purple Prose – Over-the-top, flowery writing that can come off as trying too hard. A little flair is fine, but don’t smother your reader with excess.

In Medias Res – Starting a story in the middle of the action. No boring build-up, just bang—we’re already in the heat of things.

Foreshadowing – Dropping subtle hints about what’s coming next. A small detail now could be a huge reveal later. It’s like dropping breadcrumbs leading your readers to an epic twist.

Chekhov’s Gun – If you introduce an object or detail, it better serve a purpose later. No random things just hanging around. Everything matters.

Canon vs. Fanon – Canon refers to the original source material, while Fanon is the fan-created version. You can take liberties with Fanon, but Canon needs to stick close to its roots.

Saturation Point – That place in your writing where things become too repetitive, too familiar. You’ve got to find a way to push beyond it to keep your writing fresh and engaging.

Bait and Switch – Leading your reader to expect one thing, then suddenly giving them something unexpected. It’s like pulling the rug out from under them.

Plot Device – Any element (object, event, or person) that drives the plot forward or allows the resolution of the story. It’s the item or moment that has to exist for the plot to make sense.

Vignette – A brief, evocative scene that focuses on one moment or idea, often without a formal plot. It's about capturing a snapshot of a bigger picture. Think of it like a small, poetic portrait within a larger narrative.

Mise-en-Scène – A French term used to describe the setting or visual elements within a scene, especially in film and theater. It refers to how everything is placed or designed to create a specific atmosphere.

Framing Device – A structure or technique used to tell a story within a story. It's like having a character tell their experiences through flashbacks or letters, giving the plot a layered, nested feel.

Endowment Effect – When writers unintentionally overvalue a character or plot point simply because they created it. It’s the I’m so proud of this, it’s got to stay! mindset. Sometimes less is more, so watch out for this.

Conflict (Internal/External) – Internal conflict is the emotional struggle within a character (e.g., wanting something but being afraid of it), while external conflict comes from forces outside of the character (e.g., fighting an enemy or dealing with societal pressures).

Pacing Breathers – Moments in the story where the action slows down to allow the characters to breathe and reflect. These help balance the high-energy scenes and give readers time to process.

Symbolism – Using objects, actions, or settings to represent larger ideas. Think of a wilting flower symbolizing the decay of a relationship. It’s subtle but adds layers to your story.

Subtext – The hidden or underlying meaning in a scene or dialogue. What isn’t said, what’s implied but not directly stated. Like that tension between two characters that’s so obvious but never spoken aloud.

Red Herrings – Misdirection! These are the details or clues that seem significant but lead readers down the wrong path. It’s like planting a fake trail to keep your reader guessing.

Narrative Whiplash – When you suddenly change tones or perspectives, jerking the reader’s expectations. It’s like riding a bike and then suddenly taking a sharp, unexpected turn. Used well, it adds suspense, but too much can feel disorienting.

To those readers who became writers, we intuitively know what works and what doesn’t, but just in case I’m putting it out here so writing becomes easier!

An attemp of a theory that became more of a headcannon:

An Attemp Of A Theory That Became More Of A Headcannon:

So im 99% sure they egg babies in Murder Drones are reporpused toys. Like dolls made by JC Jensen. Would make the actual Doll's name kinda ironic.

Maybe she was the first.

Also, notice how nobody has one in the present of the serie in the bunker. Or some small robot or even anyone that's under 18. So, I have the suspicion that Uzi's generation is the only one.

Did someone else already made that connection?

I don’t know if I can do this?- not because I don’t have ideas or anything, but the Murder Drones fandom law [or the cannon laid down the past-] states that any newborn Drone child is a pillbaby- and i genuinely don’t know if i can manage doing an artwork that involved a pillbaby where the posing and stuff is good enough that I don’t scrap it before I even start progress on line art, let alone being proud enough of the finished art to post it-
