When there’s only tea to remember…
I wish we would know more context about this scene. I believe Will didn't even call to announce that he was coming over. If he did then Hannibal would have had a great deal of time to change into something less casual. So I imagine Will just materialized in front of his door before going to work.
This is episode 5, it's pretty early and it just shows how comfortable they are with each other. Hannibal who is not taking his person suit in front of anyone, is wearing his bathrobe and his hair is messy and he looks very relaxed. It's probably 7 am and he doesn't mind having Will in his kitchen. He doesn't mind that Will sees him like that.
Cause Will sees already deeper than that. Listening to the way Will describes the Ripper was the proof that Will is the only person in the world who sees beyond his walls and suit.
And Will, Will doesn't have any friend and it doesn't seem like he has ever been close to someone. He is not sure what he did is socially acceptable (he excuses himself), this is something new for him and he is learning how this whole friendship thing works. But he was as well, comfortable enough with popping up on Hannibal's porch to talk about what's on bis mind.
And Hannibal listens. Hannibal makes coffee and listens.

YES THE FACT THAT he knows the stigma around cannibalism and then feeds other people other people just to reassure himself that it is something people shouldn’t be as scared of as they are. The objection people have to human meat is morality but in Hannibal’s mind they are less than people because of their Rudeness or transgressions so there’s no moral dilema. Not that there had to be because yes he did eat his sister and was probably really destroyed by it, so he ate Rude people to justify how he felt about it. AND THEN HE NEEDS TO DO IT TO OTHERS !
But then when Will comes around here is a person whom he wants to let in and so the feeding becomes love. He wants Will to know him and know what he’s done so he gifts Will the good sides of the cannibalism that he’s discovered. There is the murder aspect of it which I think is just a fun side to it, the hunting and viewing yourself as a superior predator and whatnot. But he wants Will to love and know him so he gives Will the one thing that he has. (And nothing bad happens and they drive off into the sunset together.)
I often think about how Hannibal tricked people into cannibalism. it’s really easy to right this off as Hannibal just being sick and twisted, a psychopath, but its clearly something much deeper than that to Hannibal. Not only because he’s lonely and wants someone to understand him, enjoy this with him, but to console himself. He was forced to eat his own sister whom he loved and he enjoyed it. Every time he watches someone else enjoy it he feels righteous, he feels normal.
He does it to prove to himself he’s not a monster. Anyone else would feel the same in his situation. So he forces people over, and over, and over, to the same conclusion.
To comfort the sad little boy inside filled with doubt.
You're just a mammal. Let yourself act like it. Your brain needs enrichment. Your body needs rest. You feel hunger and grow hair. You need to pack bond with other sentient things so you don't become unsocialized and neurotic. You are biologically inclined to seek dopamine and become sick when chronically stressed. Outrage about hedonism is made up to place moral value on taking pleasure in sensory experiences. I am telling you that if you don't let yourself be a fucking mammal, as you were made, you will suffer and go insane. No grindset no diets no trying to be above your drive for connection. Pursue what makes you feel good and practice radical rejection of the constructs meant to turn you into a machine. You're a mammal.
