it was clear the wedding party was going to go deep into the night. it seemed like everyone was ready for a night of drinking and partying before what was going to lie ahead of them. and while rosalyn had enjoyed her time of merriment with everyone else, she was also happy to sneak away for a bit. holding onto the arm of her now husband the two of them walked the halls of the castle. butterflies filling her stomach once more as they walked alone together. no more need of a chaperon to keep a watchful eye on the couple. they were married which afforded them a little more privacy, which was both relieving but also caused the butterflies to flutter in her stomach. "did you have a nice time?" the now queen asked as they walked together. "i know it was more of a southern wedding but i hope you still enjoyed yourself."

a private meal with his betrothed was a luxury in the vale that rodrik would not enjoy so often in the north. as the lord of winterfell and now king of winter, he often took his meal in the great hall with his men, as his father had before him. there was something to be said about a meal in private, where his singular focus could remain on the woman who was soon to become his wife.
the smile upon rosa’s face brought one to his own, a more genuine smile than the wolf of winterfell often showed in the south. “we are often quite insular at times,” he told her, his head inclining. “our gods are different, our way of life. we are simpler; i do not take much joy in gold or jewels as you might be accustomed to here.” he took a sip from his ale. “when we are in the north, i will assign someone to instruct you in our customs.”
fingers moved to cut the meat that was on the plate in front of him. “i know that i am not the warmest of men, rosa,” he spoke candidly, wishing for her to know his thoughts. “but i will do all in my power to make you happy. as my queen, you will be elevated above most. and as my wife,” here he paused before exhaling. “as my wife, i will be faithful and belong to you alone.”
.
it had only been a handful of times that rosa had seen the king of winter smile since she had met him at dragonstone. although it was rare, it was kind. it felt genuine each time he gave one, not a forced pleasantry like so many other nobles painted on their faces. she felt quite special to get to see it more and more as the days drew closer to their wedding.
rosalyn knew moving to the north would mean a big change in customs that she had been used to. and there was no denying that she was nervous but it felt almost exciting as well. a simpler life was by no means a worse life or anything to snub her nose at. she often found solace in the quiet moments of the castle, she was sure she would find the same at winterfell. "someone to help me would be great help, thank you. that last thing i want to do is offend anyone."
taking a small sip of her drink, she could feel her cheeks burn the slightest color of pink, despite her efforts. "rodrik," rosa started. "you have been nothing but kind to me from the moment i have met you. you have been learning how to sign for me when no one said that you must. i find that to be very warm." she told him. there was a pause, a slight hesitation at her next words. as she was unsure if they were right or not. "i want for you to be happy as well. i...i hope i could also help to make you happy."
rosa would be lying to say she wasn't the slightest bit nervous for the dinner about to take place. it was the first real time all of them were going to be able to get together as one. soon enough both of their families would be joined together and all the princess wanted was for them all to get along. her siblings meant the world to her, and rodrik was soon to be her husband, she needed them to get along. but rosa came from a family of people all with very strong personalities and ideas. she loved them for it but she hoped that it wouldn't clash with the starks. but perhaps with the threat of war looming over them all, a night of a joyful celebration was what they all needed.
the red head looked around at all the people gathered in the room. letting out a sigh of relief, she smiled. at least so far so good.

dear cedric,
i hope your travels back to highgarden have been well. you departure was so sudden i was not able to find you before you left. i'm sure it is important business why you are away and not because you grew bored of all of us at the vale.
i'm unsure if you knew when you'll be traveling back to the vale with all the talks of battles and fighting going on. (are you fighting? you know you all don't have to fight but you are so very similar to my brother. i’d be very happy for some company back in the eyrie.)
smudge might be the only one relived with your departure since that means kit is not lurking around every corner to make a new snack out of him.
i do have some news my friend....it seems like my wedding is going to be sooner than expected. the fighting ahead has moved everything along. and i know it is probably going to be a stretch and i’m sure you have other important thing to do.... but i would really love for you to be there. you've been a dear friend and i want you there for the day. it would mean a lot to me.
of course i understand if you have other obligations and cannot make it.
i hope you are well
your friend,

the meal was quite good, though rodrik couldn’t really recall exactly what he was eating. his focus remained on the woman across from him, the one who was to be his wife — and the mother of his future children. he had not spent much time with rosalyn without one of their siblings present, though today the only other presence in the room was a servant who also doubled as chaperone ( flimsy though that argument might be ) for the duration of the meal.
rodrik set his goblet down as he signed to her, well aware that his signing was nowhere near as good as he might like it to be. he spoke as well, knowing that she might better read his lips than the motions that his unpracticed hands made. “what do you know of the northern customs? i am not certain what southron septas teach of the north.”
.
butterflies had fluttered around her stomach the entire day as she waited for the night to come. it was then she'd be able to spend dinner alone with her soon to be husband. the thought alone was strange and foreign to her. she always knew she'd get married to someone, but the thought of it being here now was hard to believe. she only knew a little about rodrik, but it was what he had shown her that was enough to win her over.
for the first time she felt like she was alone with him. she loved her siblings more than anything in the world but it felt a little freeing to be away from their watchful eyes. she knew they only wanted the best for her, but there were somethings she wanted to discover on her own.
the way his hands moved, although somewhat clumsily, through his signing brought a smile to her face. her hands matched in kind with her words, knowing it would be best to help him practice. "i know a little but i am sure there are many things i do not know. i know the northern people to be a proud and honorable people. i just hope i can prove myself worthy to them. i do not expect them to trust me right away. is there....things i should know?"
the floating sound of laughter and giggling filled the hallways near the arryn princess' room. inside young ladies scampered and bounded around as they all gossip and chatted about the latest news to come out. the engagement of rosalyn arryn to the king of winter. some of them ladies of the vale, others some of her ladies in waiting but all of them there to share in the exciting news and congratulate the princess.
a smile seemed stuck on the red-headed princess as she talked with the other ladies about it all. when would it be? would they travel to winterfell? would it be here? what would she wear? comments on how handsome her husband to be was. questioning if it meant she would be a queen. rosalyn didn't mind the questioning, in fact it was nice to be /excited/ for something for a change. for some happy news to be present in her mind and not all the tragic things that had befallen her recently.
a knock at the door pulled rosalyn's focus away from the ladies as one of the guards came in to announcement the arrival of her sister. excusing herself from the still mirthful ladies, she moved over into the other room to find her sister waiting. "ravella!" she smiled, hurrying over to her sister to hug her. "i am so glad you are here. i was going to come and see you later but this is much better."

@rosaaaryn
though many in the north would consider him to be jovial, a man who will share a drink and a laugh with his men, in the south rodrik has long been thought of as the dark wolf, a man who has made decisions others would often revile. his expression was solemn in the south, made even more so by the dour walls of dragonstone. the harsh neutrality of the grey bricks juxtaposed against the sea so turbulent the water was little more than droplets and cresting waves that crashed against the shore, both reminded him of home and made him wish that he was still in the north.
his crown, hammered bronze with spikes of black iron, was heavy on his head, though he did not wear it outside of his official duties.
( his bearing, his countenance, the way he spoke so confidently made it clear, rodrik thought, that he was the king of winter. anything more was an ostentatious showing he did not believe in )
rodrik had sparred in the training yard with a couple of his men and as he walked back into dragonstone itself, he kept from wiping beads of sweat percolating on his forehead. as he neared the hallway toward his chambers, however, he saw a familiar face though it was not one he knew well. the arryn princess his father had wanted him to wed stood just ahead and though negotiations between the families had not begun again, he felt it impolite to simply ignore her.
“good afternoon,” he said, the small talk sounding strange even to his own ears. “it has certainly been some time since we’ve last met.”
.
the days at dragonstone were coming to an end. and honestly, rosa was thankful for that fact. after everything that happened on this island, the arryn princess was ready to make her way back home. when they were first leaving to come to dragonstone rosa was overjoyed at the thought of getting to leave the vale for awhile. all throughout the war she had been stuck in the vale and honestly mostly in the eyrie to keep her safe. so getting travel somewhere was exciting for her. but now she wondered why she had left the vale at all.
but rosa couldn't let these thing bring her down. to break her. no she needed to stay strong for herself and for her family. so despite how much anxiety it might bring her she decided to go for a nice walk today. her guards following behind her to at least bring some comfort.
"king rodrik." surprise laced in her melodic voice. rosa had seen the other king during the time on the island but had never a real chance to speak with him. plus with the rumored talked of their father's arrangement she thought it might be inappropriate for her to reach out to him without knowing where people stood. but now with the two of them in the hall together there was no leaving a perfectly polite conversation. "it certainly has been a long time and much has changed. is your family well? i haven't had much of a chance to speak with either of your sisters here yet." she smiled. "and you! i hope you have been good as well with all the new pressures of kinghood."
rosalyn had been looking forward to the dinner with her family all day. in between packing up the various things she had brought along and helping to organize some of the arrival details the time came quickly. however, rosalyn had found herself caught in reading a book as it reached a cliff-hanging moment, before realizing she was going to be late. rushing down the hall to where they were meeting, two guards rushed to keep up with her.
the two guards outside opened up the door for her as rosalyn rushed in a flurry of fabric and bouncing red curls. sorry sorry she signed. i was lost in a book and lost track of the time. i didn't keep you all waiting did i? rosalyn signed as she took her seat, thanking the guard who pulled out the chair for her. slightly out of breath but smiling she greeted her siblings, happy to see all of them in one room together again.
"agreed robin. i have missed our family dinners. although it won't feel the same without madelena here, but we will be seeing her soon enough." another amazing reason why she was so excited to be back in the vale.
Robin had asked his siblings to join him for dinner tonight….all of them. Robin typically dined on his own, writing letters, looking over books, working on various things late into the night. Tonight however was far different, after the events with the jester….and then his confession to his eldest sister Ravella about who he was….what he was. He had thought on it quite a bit, and he had reached a decision that left him terrified and anxious. His palms were sweaty and he was anxious, something that he wasn’t quite used to. Eventually, however, all his siblings were gathered around the table where a herb roasted capon was sitting along with spinach, leeks, and a bowl of mushrooms cooked in garlic. Smiling as he took his own seat,
“Thank you all for joining me here, I thought it would be good for us to have dinner together, as a family before we began the voyage back to the Eyrie. After everything that’s happened we need to spend more time as a family.”

didn’t know? ravella’s eyebrows furrowed for a moment, wondering how rosa had somehow gotten lost in the chaos and was completely overlooked. the perpetrators should have been publicly flogged in her own opinion, paraded for all those who called this tomb home to recognise and shame. by only letting a select few recognise the brute, it was easy for such … unstable individuals to take advantage of others ignorance. "darling, neither you nor i would have been able to outrun such a beast.” she sighed slightly, lifting her royal blue skirts to just reveal her footwear, raising an eyebrow slightly in rosalyn’s direction as if to say, especially in these shoes. “you should have been made able to identify a criminal who sought to harm you all; you had no idea not to approach him.” she thought it something she would take up with the targaryens whenever she caught them; regardless of tensions it could cause. “you are not at fault, not at all. do you understand me?”
.
maybe it was true she should have known what he looked like. but maybe she should have sought out that knowledge too. deep down she knew it wasn't her fault. but that nagging feeling was still there. "i should have found a guard or not approached a stranger. "she mumbled quietly, resting her head on her knees. "he had this horrible laugh. i can't get it out of my head. last night i just tossed and turned hearing it over and over. despite everything i could still hear that laugh, it's unfair" everything she was denied hearing but felt cursed to hear that." he grabbed me by my throat and held a dagger there. i could barely speak. i forgot any self- defense we were taught. i just felt so helpless." what more could she have done? if rowan hadn't arrived and he got her down to boat, what then? would he have killed her or taken her with him to gods know where?
ravellaarryns:
ravella remained in her seat, emerald orbs flickering across the mirror toward the purple, blackish hues around rosalyn’s neck. the colours moved in a haze, somewhat shielded by her fiery red locks - but she saw it nonetheless. the only sign ravella gave of her unease was the sharp rap of her platinum sapphire ring against the desk as she drummed her fingers, momentarily getting lost in her thoughts. she had been told that the attack was not one based on politics, but a madman looking to escape his grim fate - still, she couldn’t help but hold her breath. "the crack of dawn, though the targaryen guards were questioning all travellers in and out of dragonstone. by the time my presence was cleared, it was midday.” offering rosalyn the beginnings of a small smile in response to missing her presence, she hoped her own sister would know had missed her too - despite not admitting it. “forgive me, for i must stop dancing around the topic. last night?” ravella began, turning in her chair so she was facing the tub, crossing a leg over her skirts. her question was introductory; wanting rosalyn to take lead of the conversation and indulge the details she could bring herself to.
.
rosa was thankful that his sister's arrival came this morning. after everything it was nice to have some good luck coming her way. knowing her sister her entire life she knew that smile from her meant a great deal. plus her sister coming to visit her first reassured her that ravella missed her as well. the red-head knew the conversation would lead to this. pulling her knees close to her chest, the younger arryn frowned." it was awful" she started. "the man... I didn't know it at the time was rholk, the man the tully king hired to attack us all." she said, "i saw him in the hallway... i was alone... i. .. i tried to run ravella, i really tried. but he was bigger and so fast. "she closed her eyes trying not to bring back those memories.
ravellaarryns:
ravella silently wrapped her arms around her little sister’s more petite frame, rubbing her back comfortingly; whilst rosa was the sun and she the moon, she couldn’t help but let out a breath of relief to see rosa able to still walk unassisted, and talk. pulling away from the embrace after giving rosa’s hand a soft squeeze, ravella motioned for her to sit before her mirror, beginning to loosen the fiery red braid that hung over her shoulder. "the king can’t get rid of me that easily.” ravella mused quietly, gently bringing a brush through rosa’s unruly curls. in truth, ravella had ensured no drama would reach any of her siblings by raven, laying low for weeks - making it easier to slip away when need be. “i’ve had your maids run you a bath.” ravella paused, biting her tongue; there was no need to get into the details of last night yet. “go on.”
.
rosa could stay like this for hours. her siblings always made her feel safe. and with everything that happened during this visit she needed any comfort she could get. and with the surprise visit of her sister, rosa felt like a small kid once more seeking the comfort of her big sister. settling down at her mirror like they had done hundreds of times before as her sister tried to tame her curls. "thank you." she said, happy to relax back into the water. "when did you get here? how?" she asked, having a hundred more questions but holding herself back. stepping behind the partition she undressed before she stepped into to the water. "this is exactly what I needed "she said moving the divider so she could at least see her sister. "i missed you sister."
ravellaarryns:
@rosaaaryn
upon entering rosalyn’s chambers, brushing past the guards that had been stationed on either side of the double doors with a nonchalant brush whilst her own arryn guards discussed details and identities, the emptiness of the room was immediately apparent. well, not entirely empty; some serving maids, definitely not those rosa had left her home with. “are you not paid a wage to attend on my sister?” ravella demanded, her voice as stern as a whip as she remained in the shadows of the room. “quickly run a bath for the princess and get out of my presence.” ravella immediately busied herself by closing a window that was allowing in cold draughts of sea air. ensuring the hot water of the bath was filled with relaxing scents and salts, she lingered by the window to see rosa slowly crossing the courtyard, making her way back to her chambers. nobody had been clear in regards to what had happened the night before; the woman intended on hearing it from her sister first, before seeking out robin and finally, rowan.
.
most of that morning had been spent arguing with maesters. all of whom had told rosa of the benefits of regular walks in the fresh air and how it could help with healing of her neck. the last thing she wanted wanted was to leave the safety of her room. every corner and dark spot could hold new danger she was not ready for. but eventually she gave in and took the walk surrounded by guards. asha as she made her way back to her chambers, she was stopped by one of the guards to inform her she had a visitor. "who? "she asked. the guard only shrugged before opening the door. stepping in nervously she looked around before spotting a familar dark brunette in the corner. "ravella..." the shock of seeing her there not setting in. maybe it was a vision. but that couldn't stop her from running toward her, flinging her arms around her. "how? how are you here?"
rvrprnc:
days spent in solitude. constrained to his chambers. his only company a crow that would check in on him, perch atop the inner casement … waiting. waiting for something. waiting for him? oh, and the targaryen guards. though, he could easily admit he preferred the crow. no matter it’s mirthless forewarning.
at the opening of the doors, the thought vanished. maybe he could admit, but he would not. the guards entered for other than to deliver one of the three unloving meals of the morning, day, night. now they were to take him for a walk? brynden rolled his eyes in response. strike one. two more, no walk. “ ugh … ” he ran a hand through his lengthened locks. “ very well. ” he then followed. two led before him, two behind. he wondered if he should try to sneak off, but even he was not dimwitted enough to realize they were on an island and unfortunately now, the trout, even if it could swim in salt waters, was only his houses sigil.
.
the day had a slight chill to the air, enough to nip at the skin but still it was one of the rare days it still felt wonderful outside. pulling her cloak tighter around her, she was happy to get away from some of the bustle of the castle. a nice quiet walk, she was expecting. but up ahead on the pathway rosa was able to catch a glimpse at him. brynden. he looked so different from when she saw him last. the night of the ball he was dressed up, like they all were. ready to have a fun night. but all of that was turned upside down and it seemed even more so for all of the tullys. part of rosa knew she should just keep walking but before she could stop herself her feet were carrying her closer and closer. "brynden!" she called out, forgetting proper etticute for the moment but she hoped he would forgive her.
after a moment she was able to catch up to him. "you're outside. i....i am so glad to see you." it was the truth. she had been so worried for her friend since news of his imprisonment had reached her. her gut had told her that there was no way he could be part of this. seeing him now he looked different, and not just the long hair. there was something else. "are you alright?"

he saw the figure of rosa arryn, sat upon a bench beneath one of the cloisters of dragonstone as the rain fell outside, talking to … a basket? cedric almost narrowed his eyes in momentary confusion before clearing his facial expression as the woman noticed him; he had heard much of rosa arryn’s emotionally fragile nature, and seen a fair amount of it in the few moments rowan had allowed his little sister to stay with the bunch of older boys. offering her a nod of acknowledgement, he did not intend on stopping but continuing on his journey - it was then he saw the floppy ears of a rabbit peep from the basket. ah, cedric thought. not mad. almost simultaneously, his four legged fox of a shadow had chosen to sneak from the shade of the foliage; vivid orange tail upright as his amber eyes fixed on the rabbit now being cradled in the woman’s arms.
“kit, no.” cedric hissed under his breath, moving to step before the creature in an attempt to stop the arryn woman from seeing the creature that wanted to feast upon her precious bunny for a spot of lunch. “go on, bugger off. we’ll get you lunch somewhere else.”
.
there was a cool breeze move past from the soft rain that fell outside. she had forgotten long ago what the rain sounded like falling on stone but she knew it was a peaceful noise. if she closed her eyes and concentrated hard enough then maybe she could conjure up the sound or imagine what it could be. the arryn was happy enough to sit on the bench and enjoy the view at least. for a moment she might even look as if she belonged in that spot, like a statue caught in time.
her gaze was mostly fixated on the book she had brought along with her, along with her small companion who was enjoying the protection of the basket he was tucked into. the breeze moved around them carrying hints of sweet rainwater that hung in the air with each rustle of the wind. lost in the paged of her book she missed cedric walking by her, only looking up to lean over to share a small piece of fruit with smudge she smiled. “there you go.” she told the tiny bunny.
up ahead of her she did not hear the agitated words of the tyrell as he commanded his own small companion to keep walking. rosa could only see the red flash of a fox trotting over towards her. and more likely over towards smudge. quickly she scooped up the small bunny in her arms, standing up to keep out of sight of the fox who now stood at her feet. “no, you are getting no meal here. find somewhere else to go little fox. shoo…shoo please.” her eyes searched up towards someone walking up “he cannot have smudge. is he…feral?” she said holding the bunny closer, only noticing them who it was. “oh, cedric. hello.”
❝How much have you had to drink?❞
“i....believe only two glasses...wait maybe more.” rosalyn giggled as she placed down her now empty cup. she was not used to drinking this much but it was a celebration for many reasons. “oh no.” she hiccuped. “can you tell?”

“huh?” rosalyn asked, peeking her head up from her book, she clearly must have been intently engrossed into. she wasn’t sure if her brother had been speaking to her for awhile or just walked in. “i’m sorry, what did you say again?” she smiled.
@lorczamartell
wandering around dragonstone with her interprator rosa spotted the martell princess for a distance. kindly, she asked the other woman to give her a few minutes alone before walking over towards where the martell was standing. “good day to you. i hope i have not interrupted you too much your grace. i had heard of your arrival and have not had the chance of meeting your acquaintance.” rosalyn said. “i am princess rosalyn arryn of the vale. it really is lovely to meet you.”
@caetargaryen
over the years rosalyn had gotten to know the targaryen family. even though the targaryen heir lived with rosa for years now, she’d always kept up a friendship with caerella. though the war made it so it could only happen through letters. still she felt a keen sense of friendship there. when she spotted her in the halls of dragonstone she gave a wide smile. “i believe i have lost your brother. i was supposed to give him something and now i cannot find him for the life of me. you haven’t seen him by chance?”
