Lion fish merman commission! Man this boy is detailed! I am always shocked by how long lion fish take to draw every time I try, they are a lot trickier to draw than you might think at first. If you’re looking for a challenge, lion fish are the way to go.
I just love the colors and details this client chose, I adore the freckles and those piercing eyes. The hairstyle they chose was definately fun to draw, especially being a merman, it gives me the opportunity to draw flowing hair that adds a lot of dynamic motion to the piece.

Occupying the high seat of the circle of earth pony mages under the rule of Princess Alexandria.
Alexandria has commanded that each high seat of the three mage circles of the castle, find, raise and present her with their chosen protégée for a project of most importance.
She doesn’t mind so much being made to find and rear students, perhaps once they learn enough they can help her with her work. It’s a down payment for future help. While it is a distraction from her current projects and studies, she knows it will eventually make up for it in terms of offloading some of her many many tasks.
The other mages in her circle are not unskilled or unwilling to help, but they each specialize in different areas. She is technically in charge of managing them, and they very often study and work together on projects for the princess and empire, but they are not really her students. She is a representative, manager, and senior among them.
The circles of mages are not necessarily schools and have been previously not required to teach, typically they have simply passed on talents and knowledge to their own children. But with the growing threats and advancements, more mages are becoming necessary under the transfer of power to the new princess within the last few years.

Mlp princesses Lineup! Experimenting with a line-less art style, it’s pretty fun! I aged Flurry heart up a bit to a teenager or young adult age, I imagine she will eventually be the same height as her mother.

Once there was a powerful unicorn mage who spent all his time studying magic. He rose through the ranks and eventually found himself in the courts of the palace, working directly under the Queen.
Eventually, there was a marriage arranged for him by a well known unicorn family to their daughter. He was persuaded to marry the mare and they started a family.
They did not love each other romantically, but they did get along well enough as they co-parented their daughter. He taught his daughter magic as soon as she could speak, and though she was blind, she was gifted like her father, and he developed a sort of Braille in order for her to read like him.
In his studies at the palace, he became a trusted council member for the Queen, they even studied and discussed magic together. He was eager to learn under the Queen, the only known alicorn still living. She taught him much about alicorn magic as they experimented together, writing down their findings and advancements in powerful magic . As time went on He was trusted to go on outings with the Queen and her alicorn daughter, Alexandria, who was just about the same age as his own. Together, he and the Queen tutored her in magic in seclusion.
Eventually, while studying on his own in private, away from other ponies in order to not accidentally cause harm, a troup of changelings approached him. He had never seen such creatures before, but he could feel their dark magic. Weak from his extensive training and experimentation, he fought them fiercely. Due to their numbers and his weakness at the time, and after being ambushed, he was eventually captured by the changelings and replaced.
He was taken for information, and not too long after being taken to the hive, his wife and young fully were taken as well. He was constantly being drained of his magic by the changelings, but as he saw his wife get consumed completely by the starving hive, a burst of emotion sprouted forth, giving him just enough magic to teleport his daughter to safety.
In the palace, the changeling disguised as Him was discovered quickly, as well as the rest of the family, due to the changelings inexperience with the level of magic required of his position. The entire family was assumed dead.
His daughter was teleported to a remote wooded location, and was soon found by a bog witch in the area, whom then took her in as a pupil after noticing her strong aura of magic about her.

My Changeling Queen! Her name is either going to be Queen Aphid or Queen Odonata. Kinda leaning towards the former.
I wanted to give her more of a yellowish color palette, but I think I’ll still adjust slightly, don’t want her looking too much like a chrysalis redesign.
In terms of personality, she is a bit different from chrysalis, she genuinely cares for her hive and they are her children. Though she is just as ruthless about her rule and her conquest for her children. She doesn’t collaborate with other hives of her kind, as is typical for changelings. They are like bees after all, they stick to their own hives business for the most part ( and every pony else’s when comes to maintaining their food source). they definately get their nose in the Ponies business, politics, etc etc.

not sure on my queens name and the colors. Still a WIP. Playing around with the changelings origins, perhaps they were created with evil magic? In this I don’t plan for them to be able to be reformed like in the show, at least not on a massive scale and with a transformation.
These guys work as an average bee hive would, with the expecting of their diet. Diet consists of meat, magic, insects and very occasionally plant matter. Positive magic and emotions ( which are intrinsically magical in nature, good or bad) are the most substantial and is what allows them to transform themselves, so it’s a vital part of their diet, other foods are optional
