“Really? In this day an’ age?” He couldn’t find it in himself to be anything but a little intrigued. An artisan in Greece of all places, how….Strangely romantic? Jamie wasn’t quite sure if that was the right way to phrase it. Or if he even cared about it. However he did know he liked a man who worked with his hands in general, was a telltale sign they knew how to use them.

Down boy.

There wasn’t really a smell to him, which didn’t mean he wasn’t just a human, Jamie knew better by now. Still, woodworking felt like such a lost art, something he didn’t see too often anymore. If he’d have been in a mood to dwell on his past, he’d maybe have thought back to seeing his father whittle something out of an oak branch while they attended the stables at the estate. But he wasn’t too keen on that anymore, would tolerate a flash here and there, but that was it. “Ye a local then? Or sell those wares fae place tae place?”

image

A gentle head nod at the question as the bartender brought Silas his drink, placing it on a black coaster not too far from his hand. He moved to grip it, a tinge of butterflies throughout his insides as the man placed interest in his occupation, bringing the cocktail to his lips in hopes that it would relieve his own tension. It wasn’t often that he was interested in another without it being his dinner and the cubi’s obsidian hues lit up faintly at discussing his work.

“Local now,” he stated after clearing his throat, liquor burning its way down his esophagus as it planted into his empty stomach and felt the warmth take him, “Just a few years, shop on the main street. Though I have done some place to place,” the accent was still a bit rough on the cubi’s ears, but he could place enough to get the message. Silas honestly couldn’t even fully place it, just knowing the brunette had to be from some United Kingdom attached area— right? “Bit difficult to manage,” he spoke over the sudden change in music, club seeming to get louder as they sat inches apart at the bar-top.

Where: Knick Knack Who: @silaskyun

How long had she been in the shop? Five minutes? Ten, fifteen? Sanem couldn’t even properly remember when she had actually entered the shop, nor what she was even looking for. Perhaps it was one of those ‘you’ll know it when you see it’ kind of moments. But she’d entered the store on a whim, and now was lost among the various items on tables and shelves. Maybe she should have accepted the help offered in the beginning, maybe she would have already found something and been on her merry way. Was there a proper etiquette for shopping within a store? Had she exceeded the normal browsing time? “Shoot —,” the word had slipped out of its own accord, lower lip soon enough sucked in between teeth as her gaze lifted to find the store employee.

Sanemvidalis:

Some came in with thoughts on exactly what they wanted to acquire, others just like to browse around the shop until the item they didn’t realize they needed jumped out at them. It never mattered much to Silas either way and found pleasure in both kinds of individuals. He could hear objects being rummaged through, picked up and placed back down, then a small huff of frustration. That was his que, onyx hues gliding towards the customer in time to see her own shifting towards his and gave her a soft grin. “Doing alright?” a blanket question just to get a feel for the situation at hand, not wanting to assume that the wanderer had possibly damaged one of the pieces. Could just be having a hard time pinning down an inkling, it was a fairly frequent occurrence and the Kyun loved using those opportunities to get to know his guests.

Gabriel wasn’t quite sure he believed the other’s excuse, but he had not reason not to take Silas’ words at face value. The other really hadn’t lied to him before, so he didn’t think Silas would start to now. Frowning, even the lights of the carnival couldn’t distract Gabriel enough to focus on what was being said. “I guess…the rosemary tea. It reminds me of how my mother would make it.” He gave a half smile, pointing towards one of the booths, “You want a drink?”

image

“Definitely,” came from the incubus’ lips a little faster than he originally anticipated, but the exhaustion had him more than off beat. His usual filter that allowed him to actually think before speaking was a bit mangled and all the commotion had Silas’ sensory overloaded. Normally he didn’t drink much other than the occasional sake or cocktail when the moment called for it, charcoal hues bouncing to the booth before heading over with Gabriel, “You aren’t looking too hot yourself, what’s got you anxious?”

Months had gone by without a single trace, causing Silas to wonder if the object existed in the first place. Rumors and hanging onto belief that his client was right in her pursuit grew difficult, but Safiye insisted on his continued search. The cubi listened without attaching too much thought. It was never any of his business why certain items needed to be obtained and simply accepted that if it wasn’t him, it would be someone else. Which led him down a path that he hadn’t quite expected this time and talking to individuals from many different walks of life. Originally the necklace was traced back to Gascony, a region in France that was ruled by the English Crown during the 14th century. Once the witch trials had started, however, many of the possessions in the area were lost or obliterated. Finding anything during that period of destruction was next to impossible, but not completely. “Hey, it’s Silas at Knick Knack. I think I found it,” he stated calmly on her voicemail as charcoal hues continued to examine the detail of the brass and condition of its embedded stones. It was as if it was brand new, glass still in perfect condition and hung by the original chain. Though the cubi knew after over fifty years of experience that items like this are not always what they seem.

Months Had Gone By Without A Single Trace, Causing Silas To Wonder If The Object Existed In The First

At times, Silas found himself seaside listening to the waves crashing right below his feet. Sketchbook in hand with a large bag of different artists’ tools depending on his mood, drawing anything that interested him or came into his mind. Sometimes it was the water itself, other times it was the various faces that could be found making their way across the gulf’s drift wood and pieces of shells. It was a chance to get away from his shop and find new inspiration in the people that called Corinth their home, along with the many visitors that appreciated its allure. That was when he appeared— hair catching light giving it hints of crimson and gold within its darkness. The cubi began to sketch, entranced by his presence as charcoal hues glanced up and back down to keep capturing him naturally. A tool he often used when evading the North Korean army during the war, attempting to draw without the individual even realizing that Silas was just feet away the entire time. Though he supposed those within the army were simply humans, not full of glistening magic like the man whose eyes zeroed in on him.

Knick Knack always attracted many different kinds of people, mostly because the incubus tried to cater to all walks of life. It was the same for anyone looking to sell their artwork and after all these years, Silas had seen just about everything. He noticed each detail and could tell when extra care was taken to design the piece. “The mark of a true craftsman,” he smiled, bits of exhaustion cutting through his tone and moved the ring closer to his eye. Only a few days had passed since the scale had been destroyed, though no matter how much he slept— it just never was quite enough. Running the shop was the only thing pulling him out of bed in the morning, but his strength was coming back slowly. Charcoal hues pulled back as shimmers of the stone danced across his warm expression, “So, what do you think. I have a couple open spots up front that can be personalized to your liking and we can feature your favorites in the window?”

Connor only ever visited the library when he had absolutely no other choice. It definitely had nothing to do with Gabriel (except that it had everything to do with Gabriel). He often snuck in when he felt like the Cubi wasn’t paying attention, and had nearly successfully avoided him on most occasions. Browsing the stacks now, he ran fingers down the spine of a historical biography, chewing his lower lip. He spoke Greek but reading it was still sometimes a struggle. French had always been his forte. Too bad he couldn’t find a translator patient enough to work through it with him. After some struggle, he finally plucked the right book off the shelf and moved to a different section- crafting- looking for a place to settle on the floor to get to work. He stopped as he rounded the corner to find a face that looked familiar but he couldn’t place- perhaps it was a customer that frequented the shop- “Excuse me, but I’m looking for a bit of help.” He raised the book and wiggled it slightly, “I have trouble reading Greek, are you any good?” ( @silaskyun )

What Silas loved about the local library was how large their selection was. Many of the small towns he had found himself in barely had anything at all, not even a government funded one, and there was something about the feeling of a book in his hand that he still couldn’t get over. Their section on woodwork had copies of books that the cubi had never laid eyes on. Such as ‘Tricks of the Trade’ and ‘The House Beautiful’ by Clarence Cook, most of which had been translated into Greek text and was still difficult for him to read. Sure, it gave him the practice he much needed but didn’t exactly help when certain tools didn’t quite fit the translation as he had hoped. Most of the time he would find himself digging out his phone for help from Google to get it into Korean, but it never worked well. Even the English translation came off choppy and tricky to read. So when he heard the man next to him asking for assistance, Silas wasn’t exactly sure he could offer much assistance. He gave the man a meek grimace, but charcoal hues remained kind, “Not sure how much help I would be. Greek is far from my first language, but I could always give it a go.”
