Panting heavily, you bend down, resting your hands on your thighs as you feel a burn course through them whilst Bucky laughs at you.

“Did you seriously run here?” Bucky asks, Steve now facing you too, surprised to see you.

Holding a finger up, you take one final deep breath before composing yourself. “Of course,” You breathe out. “I didn’t wanna miss the start of it, had to get here on time.” You smile, practically beam to Steve who shyly smiles back.

“I mean you’re fifteen minutes late, doll.” Bucky comments, ignoring Steve’s weak punch to his arm. “Sorry.”

“You haven’t missed a thing, Y/n.” Steve assures you as he steps forward, holding his arm out as his jacket swarms his upper body.

Despite the mud coating the hem of your skirt that hides various bruises and a sheen of sweat lining your forehead, Steve still adores you completely, no matter how often you’re late for things.

“I’d be honoured.” You giggle, looping your arm with Steve’s as the three of you make your way into the dance hall. 

Standing on the podium, Steve can feel his grip tightening on the case as Bruce, Sam and Bucky watch him closely.

“Ready Cap?” Bruce calls out as Steve’s suit changes to white and red, contrasting the previous dark tones. “Alright, we’ll meet you back here.” He adds, and Steve nods.

It’s the moment he’s anticipated for too long, ever since he woke up from the ice.

"Y/N. Your shoe is untied."

Finishing the lollipop with a loud crunch, you turn to Megumi with a carefree smile, as you swing the convenience store bag, watching as he throws away his bottle of water.

"I know!"

Megumi shook his head with exasperation and quickly pushed you out of the way as a car flew past, a scowl of annoyance on his face as he made sure to walk to the side where the cars passed by.

"Y/N. Tie your shoe or else you're going to trip and a car will run you over."

Idly glancing down at the untied shoe, you shrug and keep walking, with Megumi carefully making sure that you are on the safe side of the sidewalk, his eyes lingering on your face for a second too long, before forcefully tearing his eyes away.

And sure enough, a few seconds later you did trip.

Not sure on what, but on something.

Probably air.

"Jeez Y/N. I told you."

Reaching an arm to tug you towards him, his soft touch caused shivers as he wrapped a hand around your waist to steady you. Looking down at you with an annoyed glare on his face, he let go and quickly kneeled on the ground, picking up your shoe and putting it on his knee. He deftly tied it in a double knot before patting it and putting your shoe on the ground.

"Stop looking at me like that."

You innocently smile at him, watching as he looks down at you with a half-assed scowl, not noticing the slight tinge of pink falling across his cheeks.

"Like whatt?"

And with a roll of his eyes, Megumi began walking, hearing the tap, tap of your footsteps as you ran to catch up to him.

"You'll be the death of me i swear..."
