"Protecting humanity is my primary directive. I'll always look out for you, Captain." He turned towards the med kit to gather the things he would need to take the blood sample and get it analyzed. The creature didn't exactly look thrilled to be locked away and even less thrilled when it took a prick from the syringe, but he made it as quick and painless as possible for it before taking the sample to the lab. Now he would see what properties he could recognize in the blood of the creature and if the UC was telling the truth about what it could do.
"I'll take a small blood sample. The UC won't notice." He thought that it was really better to be safe than sorry and to take a small sample that way they would know if the creature was used. Call it a little insurance. It wouldn't hurt to know what properties this creature held and if it would really do what the UC insisted it was going to do. "It won't hurt to have evidence. Just in case." He was also well versed in legalities, so he knew that it was important to have this if things did go wrong.

He paused mid crawl and glanced at the intercom, about to get up and answer when he saw a motion out of the corner of his eye disappear behind a crate in the far back of the cargo hold. By the time he managed to get around the crates he only found an open grate that led into the ventilation systems. Out of the frying pan and into the fire as the humans so liked to phrase it. There was no way he was going to fit into the ventilation system as big as he was. He would need to find an alternative. Standing he hurried over towards intercom. "Captain, I'm afraid the creature's cage was damaged in the collision. It has escaped into the ventilation."
He'd just leaned in to take the sample when the collision happened, sending him arse over end. It took a moment for his sensors to adjust to the fact that he was very much upside down, most of his weight on his shoulders and neck -which would likely have broken any human neck- and he had to tilt his head to take in the scene before him. He stared at the very open cage door and the very missing creature before inhaling sharply. "Oh dear. David is going to be very upset with me." He managed to right himself after some effort and then carefully began to search through the cargo. "Where've you gone?"
"Who would have thought that a toenail fungus could be the catalyst for a spiritual guide?"
"You saw nothing?" Disappointment laced the scientists voice that he did not have the first-hand account that he had hoped he might have gotten. "The battle didn't wipe the planet clean. My specimen did that. I understand why they would have no interest in a synthetic, but I can't comprehend why they didn't get to you. Blind luck?" Sighing the scientist leaned forward, chair creaking beneath his weight as he did so. "It truly is a shame that you know nothing." Folding his hands together he glanced at his synth. "But perhaps you can still be of use to science. I would quite like to see the specimen in action."

"Being clean would make you feel better but do as you please." He continued to fumble around one handed with the panel, trying his best to repair it one handed. This was not an easy task. Not with one hand, but the other was too badly damaged to use. He doubted it would be much use anyways now that it was missing a few fingers. His bleeding had at least stopped. It was one positive. Sighing he realized that if they were going to get this ship up and running, they were going to new some new Microcells. He could get those from the mechs, but... that meant going outside with those things. Sooner or later, he would have no choice. For now, he'd focus on basic repairs.

The signal must have worked, because it wasn't long before footsteps were heard outside and the door opened up, bright lights shining in blindingly. "Two survivors." The trooper radioed, stepping inside though not lowering his gun once. They were UC, but the uniform was not one that was familiar to him. Green with orange tiger stripes. Special forces of some type. Special forces... so there was a situation here out of the usual. A silence followed as he received orders over comms. "Understood. You're both coming with us. Board the ship. Move. Do it quick."

"Get that jelly mould out of here!"
"Everyone knows who I am, but do they know who they are?"
"Maybe you should do what you do best - run and hide."
"I'm not letting anyone else get hurt on my behalf, okay?"
"Violence is merely a tool."
"What would you know about where I'm from?"
"Us cowpokes, we take it as it comes."
"You come from a world of rules and laws. This place is indifferent to all of that. I do not think you would be willing to do what it takes to survive here."
"The question is, will you still want the same things when you have become a different animal altogether?"
"I know that it can't have been easy for you, what with all the murder and dirt."
"I think this conversation would benefit from some actual ideas."
"You saved me!"
"How do you live like this?"
"Now, that right there is the closest thing we've had to an honest exchange so far."
"I come from a place where the world is what you make of it."
"Everyone wants to save the world. They just disagree on how."
"The things I'm willing to do for you never cease to amaze me."
"You might be the only one of my invites that actually showed up!"
"You smell good."
"That was weird, right?"
"Trust doesn't come easily to those of us with a guilty conscience."
"When it comes to leadership these days, dangerous is what they call a prerequisite."
"Somebody's got to step up and bring some order around here."
"In my experience, the apple tends not to fall too far from the tree. Is that true in your case?"
"There's always some new little faction, isn't there?"
"Hypocrisy is like violence in the movies; if you only let the bad guys use it, the bad guys win."
"Our test subjects were less compliant than we anticipated."
"Your ignorance cannot excuse your cruelty."
"Such a display of loyalty! You don't see that much anymore."
"The future of humanity comes down to one word: management."
"What? No! When you put it like that, it sounds downright morally questionable!"
"War? War never changes."
"You see what this place does to people?"
"Maybe you can stop them, maybe you can't. Maybe all you can do is try."
