The parallels between the Thunder siblings and the Tsugikuni twins run deep. Starting with Kaigaku and Michikatsu's memories, it's evident that there is no strict rule about demons retaining their memories after transformation. I believe it mainly concerns their corruption. When demons' memories are taken away, a fundamental part of them is erased, which makes it easier for Muzan to reshape their relationships and identities to serve him. In the case of these two, remembering is essential; Muzan needs them to hold onto their worst qualities and instincts. Hatred and jealousy are powerful, binding emotions that drive both of them. Muzan's strategy is to keep them as their worst versions, which is why I believe these two kept their memories despite being transformed. this similarity is also the undeniable reason why Kokushibo was Kaigaku's path into demonhood.
As for the other two, aside from Tanjiro, I think Zenitsu is the closest to Yoriichi among the Kamaboko squad. They’re both really hard on themselves. Even though they’re clearly talented, strong, and heroic, they can’t seem to accept it. Zenitsu sees himself as a coward who doesn’t amount to much, while Yoriichi feels like a failure. But both have a lot of kindness, bravery, and care for others.
Both also fight their turned demon siblings, and the saddest part is that they both "die" when they "kill" their brothers. Yoriichi's heart stops at that moment, and Zenitsu falls to his death without trying to stop himself, and almost crosses to the other side. It's as if the act itself was so painful. They understood they had to end their siblings' lives, but despite any anger, disappointment, or pity they felt, there was no triumph in their actions, only heartbreak.
Kudos to Oda for accurately portraying how powerful & smart & resilient & brave & terrifying little girls are. Gotta be one of the most radical things he's done for the shonen genre.
atsushi is actually the most relatable character in bsd because i, too, have a dazai osamu in my brain who speaks to me when things get bad
One thing that always bothers me is when people reduce Chuuya down to "anger issues." Because he's so much more than just an angry little redhead. Yeah, Dazai's ticks him off, but aside from that, whenever he's shown as being angry, it's never because of a stupid reason that had his temper going off. Like in the movie, he was mad because six of his friends were killed due to a government decision. He was angry in season three when he learned he had two days to either kill the leader of the Agency, a group that he knew they had a ceasefire with, or else the boss would die. I'm pretty sure Harukawa even said that Chuuya's actually composed most of the time, it's only when he's with Dazai that he reverts into a five year old with anger issues, as does Dazai. And as a matter of fact, he spent most of his life bottling down anger, taking responsibility for others, never really letting himself experience these emotions for others sake. In Stormbringer, Verlaine wants him to be mad, to use that anger to prove he's just a beast, and for him to go hurt the world that did bad to him. Something which Chuuya doesn't want to do.
I'm not saying that his patience is unlimited or that he doesn't get angry often, but whenever I see him get reduced to Bakugo syndrome, it always gets me annoyed, because it feels like people don't truly understand his character.
Zoro to Road in this chapter:
Asagiri loves fake out deaths so much that both Yosano and Fyodor's abilities are, LITERALLY, fake out deaths.
