It's the exact same thing just now we have two people of the same gender. See them as brothers/sisters, see them as best pals. That's how YOU interrupt the relationship. Furthermore the way you treat shipping is a clear show of how long you've been on the internet because if it bothers you so GODDAMN MUCH that two characters of the same gender are being shipped you obviously haven't been here for a long time have you?
