“So.. you’re not.. coming back?” You ask, watching wearily as your sibling packs their final suitcase.

“I am. Don’t worry, kid, I’ll be back on holidays. It’ll be fine. You’re brave, aren’t you?” They ruffle your hair and pinch at your cheek, trying their best to reassure but ultimately failing to soothe.

“I’m going to miss you.” You choke out, feeling the tears begin to prick at the corners of your eyes. Your sibling exhales at the sight.

They cup your face. “If you start crying, I’ll start crying. We have to be strong for each other, kiddo. Can you do that for me? Can you be strong for me?”

“Why can’t I come with you?” You ask, allowing yourself to let loose a few tears. Your sibling sighs. Fear washes over you. How can you live without them?

Laughing, they rub your cheek. “You know the answer to that question, hon. You’re way too little to come with me. They don’t have kid classes in college, not that I know of.”

You cling to them, rub your cheek against their chest. “Please visit as much as you can. You will, won’t you? Won’t you?”

Hesitating, your sibling smiles. “Of course. I’ll visit next week, tell you how things are going. You can visit me, too. Promise to come visit me?”

Your eyes light up. “I’ll visit. I promise.”

“And you can sleepover. And we can watch movies together, and hit up the diner, and go shopping… on a budget.” You both laugh at the last part.

“I’m going to miss you too, little kid. I’m gonna miss you a whole lot.” Your sibling pulls you close, a tight hug.

“you’ll always be my best friend.” you finally say, melting into them.

"Sleepy time, you and your stuffie all nice and snug?"

Then they proceed to make sure the stuffie is tucked in as well before playing music to get me all nice and sleepy

i would instantly melt into that especially after a rough day

🌙Things to make bedtime more fun🌙

I tend to feel bad at the end of the day, so here are some things that help me feel better. Maybe you’ll like them too!

Dim the lights while you go about your bedtime routine, to make the atmosphere more relaxing.

If you haven’t already, set up your bed nicely with the pillows fluffed up and the plushies arranged in a pretty way.

Clean up any messes that you made during the day. Put away toys, clear off surfaces, etc. This helps me wind down and know that the day is done.

Put on a relaxing movie in the background about an hour or so before you plan to sleep. I like the old direct-to-dvd Barbie movies!

If movies don’t do it for you, read a short and easy to read chapter book. I find a lot of these at thrift stores. If you have a CG, maybe ask them to read aloud to you.

Glow in the dark stars on the ceiling make bedtime more fun, always!

Put on some nice smelling lotion or even a perfume, if it’s not too strong! I find this relaxes me.

Remember to wash your face before you go to bed, and do any skincare that you need to do. You will feel so much better!

You can find really cool night lights at the thrift store! Mine looks like a moon and star. Put it on when you turn the lights off so it’s less scary.

Sleep masks help you sleep better and come in all sorts of fun designs! Mine comes from Claire’s and looks like a kitty hehe!

Set up some water and a light midnight snack next to your bed, so you won’t have to get up and stumble around the house if you feel like you need them.

White noise machines or an album of lullabies can help you go to sleep faster, as well as cover up any creaks or other scary but harmless noises that might keep you awake.

Remember to say goodnight to your plushies, and tuck them in if necessary.

Lastly, if you have a CG, ask them to tuck you in too, and maybe give you a forehead kiss goodnight.

around when I first started dating my boyfriend i bought myself this novelty blanket that looks like a photorealistic tortilla because I am SUCH A SUCKER for novelty shit. when he saw it in person for the first time his eyes lit up, which should have been a warning sign for the indignities to come.

so he’s a first responder and his day shifts start obnoxiously early as far as I, a pampered corporate asshole, am concerned. almost invariably when he’s at my place there will be an alarm at an hour that is downright unconscionable that will make him wake up and roll out of bed to get ready and will simultaneously make me burrow under the pillows grumbling about how surely nobody actually NEEDS their lives saved this early in the morning, after which I will promptly attempt to go back to sleep

he is a clever man and he knows this is when i am most vulnerable to attack.

every single time we do this dance, he quietly dresses, packs up, goes about getting ready to leave, and then when i have juuuust fallen back asleep, he returns with the tortilla blanket. He finds it no matter where I have hidden it.

He then creeps silently up to my side of the bed and uses his superior speed, strength, and reflexes to wrap me up in it incredibly tightly while i am still dazed and sputtering, so that i cannot move my legs or arms and am reduced to humiliating halfhearted magikarp flops that do not deter him from at least attempting to kiss my forehead.

then he goes to my bedroom door, opens it, then pauses, turns around, looks at me, the soft human filling of the facsimile of an enormous burrito he has just constructed, and says in his best romantic lead voice “I’ll see you soon, beans.”

you cannot understand how devastating it is to my ego that i am beans.
