not art reblog THANK YOOOU i find that the 'do it for yourself :)' mindset is reductive you cant depend on external validation as your sole motivator yes constantly seeking approval is unhealthy yes but we have gone so far in the opposite direction that wanting your hard work to be recognized is seen as toxicity we act like creatives do things out of this vague nice-sounding positive ideal that's inherent and intuitive and not out of spite or coffee or the want to see it through or the want for someone else to see it and language like 'do it for yourself' 'be happy where you are' etc is so often used to shout down legitimate frustrations or upset we simultaneously tell people to be more confident - like that's easy - and then tear them down for taking pride in their work
