How to know what you're doing in a chess game?😭

I'm new to chess and tried learning openings and theories but I still feel so lost in a chess game. I don't know what I'm doing and feel like my playing a survival game (literally). Am I missing something? Does anyone have any tips or materials to suggest? (🙏🏻)
