Beskar Hearts

Din Djarin x fem!Reader

She/her pronouns used!

Anon request :)

Summary: After a long and grueling bounty hunt, the reader tries to engage Din Djarin in conversation, only to be met with coldness. Frustrated and hurt, the reader demands to be dropped off at the next destination. Din, realizing the gravity of his actions, begins to reveal his true feelings for her. Meanwhile, Grogu plays a pivotal role in bringing them closer together.

Beskar Hearts

The Razor Crest was a sanctuary of silence and shadows, the only sound being the hum of the ship's engines. You sat in the cockpit, eyes glancing out into the abyss of space. Din was seated beside you, his helmet obscuring his face as usual. The mission had been taxing, physically and mentally, and you had hoped for some comfort, some connection, but Din had been distant.

You took a deep breath, deciding to try once more. “It was a tough mission, huh? That last target almost got the jump on us.”

Din grunted in response, his fingers tapping away at the console. You frowned, the ache of isolation settling deeper into your bones. “Din, talk to me. We’ve been through so much together. Why are you shutting me out?”

He didn’t even turn his head. “I’m busy.”

Frustration bubbled up within you. “Busy? Busy ignoring me? We’re partners, Din. Or at least, I thought we were.”

His shoulders tensed, but he said nothing. The silence was deafening, a chasm opening between you. You stood, unable to contain your anger and hurt any longer. “If this is how it’s going to be, just drop me off at the next planet. I can’t keep doing this.”

Din’s head snapped towards you, surprise evident even through the helmet. “What?”

“You heard me,” you said, voice trembling. “I’m done.”

You stormed out of the cockpit, retreating to your quarters. Tears stung your eyes as you collapsed onto the small bed, emotions swirling. You had given so much, endured so much, and now it felt like you were nothing more than an unwanted burden.

Din sat frozen in the cockpit, your words echoing in his mind. He hadn’t meant to be cold, hadn’t realized how deeply his silence had cut you. The weight of his armor felt heavier, the confines of his helmet suffocating. He stared at the closed door you had walked through, heart pounding.

He had always been careful, always kept people at a distance. It was safer that way. But you had slipped through his defenses, had become someone he couldn’t imagine being without. The thought of you leaving was like a punch to the gut.

A soft cooing sound drew his attention. Grogu, the small green child who had become a part of their unconventional family, toddled into the cockpit, looking up at Din with wide, curious eyes. Grogu reached out with his tiny hand, patting Din’s leg as if sensing his turmoil.

Din knelt down, placing a gentle hand on Grogu’s head. “She’s upset,” he murmured. Grogu tilted his head, his large eyes seeming to understand more than a child should.

“I have to make this right,” Din said, more to himself than to Grogu. He stood, determination coursing through him. He made his way to your quarters, Grogu following close behind. Hesitating only for a moment, Din knocked. “Can I come in?”

There was no response. He took a deep breath and entered, finding you sitting on the edge of the bed, eyes red-rimmed. Grogu waddled over to you, climbing onto the bed and curling up beside you, his presence a small comfort.

“I’m sorry,” Din said, the words awkward and heavy. “I didn’t realize how much I was hurting you.”

You looked up at him, pain and anger in your gaze. “Sorry isn’t enough, Din. I can’t keep being treated like I don’t matter.”

“You do matter,” he said, voice softer. “More than you know.”

He stepped closer, though he kept his helmet on, the visor hiding his eyes. “I’m not good at this,” he admitted. “At talking, at… feelings. But you’re important to me. More important than anyone else has been.”

You blinked, surprised at the vulnerability in his voice. “Then why push me away?”

“Because I’m scared,” he said simply. “I’m scared of losing you, of getting too close and then losing everything. It’s easier to push you away than to face that fear.”

Tears welled up again, but this time they were different. You stood, closing the distance between you. “You won’t lose me, Din. But you have to let me in. We’re a team, remember?”

He nodded, reaching out to cup your cheek with his gloved hand. “I’m sorry,” he repeated. “I’ll try to be better. I don’t want you to leave.”

You leaned into his touch, the warmth of his hand grounding you. “I don’t want to leave. I just want to know that I matter to you.”

“You do,” he whispered, pulling you into a tender embrace. “You matter more than anything.”

Grogu cooed softly, nuzzling against you, his innocent presence a balm to both your wounded hearts. In that moment, the walls between you crumbled, and you found solace in each other’s arms. The journey ahead would still be fraught with challenges, but now, you knew you wouldn’t face them alone. Together, with Grogu by your side, you were stronger, and together, you would find your way.

Adstrum In Ruinas. | Part One.

The palace felt colder after your father’s death. Though the sun still danced across the walls, nothing could have warmed you.

He had always been a quiet man, steady in his craft and in his love for you. You had grown up watching his hands work leather as though it were clay, each stitch meticulous, each touch with purpose. He had poured his life into the emperor’s court, shaping beauty out of necessity, and yet, when his time had come, they had discarded him without hesitation.

Accused of theft, he had been taken swiftly, the charges flimsy, the judgment quick. You had not been allowed to speak on his behalf. No one had. And when his life ended on the blade of the emperor’s justice, the world moved on as though he had never existed. You had not cried when they took him. There had been no time, no space for grief within the stone walls of the palace. Instead, you swallowed it whole, the ache settling deep within your chest, cold and unforgiving. You could not cry. In a way, crying was admitting to the gods that he was no longer, so you did not dare slip one tear. Let the pain seethe.

No one spoke his name. To your face, at least. Not until General Marcus Acacius.

You had known his name long before you ever knew his face. The empire’s greatest general, a man whose victories had carved Rome’s borders, who had spilled oceans of blood in the emperor’s name. He was the kind of man you had only seen from afar—untouchable, his presence a thing of myths whispered amongst men. To you, he was just that: a man. A cruel one.

So when he first appeared in the apothecary, you almost did not believe it was him. “The town speaks of… you,” he said, voice filling the room like the low roll of thunder. You turned sharply, the pestle slipping from your grasp. He stood in the doorway, tall and broad, his figure framed by the dim light spilling in from the corridor. His tunic was torn, a gash running across his arm where blood had soaked through. “So I heard,” he continued, stepping inside, “if it is true—”

“Oh, yes, I—yes, it is true,” you stammered, fumbling for words. His presence unsettled you, though you could not say why. Perhaps it was the way his gaze lingered or faint something in his tone. It was different this time. “I understand. You have my condolences,” he said. You hesitated, unsure how to respond. Something in your heart fluttered. “Thank you, General.” He was not a monster. Not here with you, not now, at least. It seemed sincere enough. You looked him up and down. Why did the blood keep on trickling? For a moment, you thought he might say more, but he simply gestured to his arm. “May I trouble you for assistance?” No monster.

At first, you thought nothing of his visits.

They were sporadic, a few days apart—always under the pretense of some new injury. A cut from a sparring match. A dislocated shoulder. The aches and pains of a soldier’s life. He came to you because it was easier than seeking the palace’s physicians, or so you told yourself. But then the days stretched into weeks, and his appearances grew more frequent.

You noticed the small ways in which he lingered. The way his eyes followed you as you moved about the room, the way his voice softened when he addressed you. It was subtle at first, almost imperceptible, but as the days passed, you found yourself waiting for the sound of his footsteps in the hall.

For even when he was far, his touch still lingered, you were still drunken on his smell, and his eyes still loved yours.

One evening, as you prepared a salve by the fire, he spoke. “Your father was a great man.” You froze, your hands stilling over the mortar. “I remember his work,” Marcus continued, his voice low. “He made my first pair of riding boots. I was just a young man then.” You swallowed dry, willing your voice to remain steady. “He never spoke of you.”

“No, I suppose he would not have.”

The silence that followed was deafening. Finally, “So why are you telling me this?”

“Because he deserved better,” Marcus said simply. The words struck something deep within you. You looked away, vision blurring as the firelight flickered. Better.

He was all you could think about. Each night, from the first, you would sing sweet, mournful songs to the moon. Maybe it was because you missed your father dearly, and he filled that space up almost perfectly. Or maybe because, when he was with you, he did not seem to be the seven-headed monster all saw him as. Maybe pretending was his virtue.

But you were not the last judgment.

“Why are you always here?” you asked, voice sharper than you intended. He hesitated, his gaze flicking to the floor. “Do you not want me here?” A smile played on his lips. “That is not what I said.”

“Then why ask?”

“Because I do not understand.” You stepped closer, your heart pounding in your chest. “You never cared before. Why now?” His jaw tightened, and for a moment, you thought he might walk away. But then he sighed, the tension in his shoulders easing just slightly. “It is nothing,” he said at last.

“It is not nothing,” you pressed. “You are avoiding the truth.”

He looked at you then, his expression guarded but not unkind. “And if I told you the truth, would you thank me for it? Or curse me for what I know?”

Your breath caught in your throat. “What is it that you mean?” Marcus hesitated, the words heavy on his tongue. “Your father,” he said finally. “He did not die because of the charges. He died because they needed a scapegoat. The emperor needed to remind the court what happens when you step out of line.” The room seemed to tilt, the walls closing in around you. “You knew?”

“I tried to stop it,” he said quietly. “But there are things even I cannot change.”

You shook your head, the ache in your chest threatening to overwhelm you. “I do not need your protection, Marcus. I do not need anyone’s.”

“I know,” he said, stepping closer. His voice was steady, but there was something raw in his eyes. “But you have it anyway.”

You wanted to be angry with him. You wanted to scream, to push him away, but instead, you stood there, frozen, as he reached for you. His hands were rough, calloused from years of battle, but they cradled your face with a tenderness that left you breathless. You craved it. And you will crave it until the day you are no more.

“I care for you more than I have ever cared,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “And that terrifies me.”

Whatever happened to honor and victory? It was brutal. He was brutal. Raw, bloody, and utterly inhuman. But how could he also be the quiet after the storm? The wind that travels over still waters, the sound of dawn over mountains of dead people? You had to treat him many times, but the wounds he had inside his heart came well over the ones on his skin, you think.

You didn’t want to think of him—Marcus, with his dark eyes and the way they seemed to unravel you each time they met your own. But he lingered, even when he wasn’t here. He lingered in the soft creak of the door, the faint scent of leather and iron that clung to the air after he’d gone. It wasn’t fair, how much space he took in your thoughts. How much warmth he brought into this cold, empty life. You hated him for it. You hated yourself more.

“You work too hard.” You glanced up, startled by the suddenness of his words. He was seated by the fire, his armor stripped away, leaving only the simple tunic beneath. His shoulders were broad, his posture commanding even in repose. “You say that as though there’s an alternative,” you replied, turning back to the herbs in your hands.

“You could rest,” he said simply. “And do what? Dream of better days?” The bitterness in your voice surprised even you. Marcus leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “You deserve better days.” The sincerity in his voice caught you off guard. You hesitated, unsure how to respond. Finally, you set the pestle down and met his gaze. “Better days won’t bring my father back.”

“No,” he agreed. “But they might give you something to hope for.” You shook your head, unwilling to let yourself be drawn into his optimism. “Hope is for fools, General.”

“Perhaps,” he said, his voice quieter now. “But sometimes, it’s all we have.”

He wanted to hold you, to let his body meld with yours, ask you to run away to far lands. Let him take care of you, make you have his babies. Love you until there's nothing left.

but he couldn't.

“What would you do with better days?” you asked, the words slipping out before you could stop them. Marcus’s gaze lifted, startled by the question. He leaned back in his chair, his broad frame casting a long shadow across the dim room.

“I don’t know,” he said after a moment. he did know. he'd spend them with you. oh, silly it all felt. “I stopped imagining them a long time ago.” You paused, your fingers stilling over a jar. “You must have thought about it. When you were younger, before…” You trailed off, uncertain how to finish the sentence. “Before the blood?” he supplied, his tone sharper than you expected. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I suppose I did. Once.” still.

“And?”

He hesitated, the tension in his shoulders palpable. “And it doesn’t matter. The man I am now... he has no place in better days.” Something in your chest ached at his words, though you couldn’t say why. You wanted to reach for him, to close the distance between you and tell him he was wrong. But you didn’t. Instead, you lowered your gaze and returned to your work, your voice quiet. “That’s a pity.”

The days stretched into weeks, and though you tried to resist, the threads of your lives intertwined in ways you couldn’t untangle. Marcus became a constant presence, his visits no longer marked by the pretense of injuries. He came for you, though neither of you dared to speak it aloud.

Each touch, each glance, was a betrayal of the barriers you had built around yourself. Yet, you let him break them piece by piece, unable to deny the pull that drew you closer.

One night, as the apothecary lay bathed in moonlight, he found you humming an old melody—a song your father had sung on quiet nights. The tune was bittersweet, a memory wrapped in longing. Marcus lingered in the doorway, his shadow stretching across the room.

“I’ve heard that before,” he said softly.

You turned, startled. “My father used to sing it.” He nodded, stepping closer. “It suits you. Beautiful and haunting.” You didn’t respond, your gaze dropping to your hands. “I don’t sing much anymore.”

“You should.”

He was close now, close enough that you could see the faint scar that ran along his jaw, the one you’d traced with your eyes so many times but never dared to touch. “Why?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper. “Because it’s part of you,” he said simply. “And I want to know all of you.” His words left you breathless, the weight of them settling in your chest. You wanted to pull away, to guard the fragile thing that was growing between you, but you couldn’t.

But people talk.

They talk in whispers that snake through the palace walls, slithering through cracks and beneath doors. Whispers of his visits, of his presence in the apothecary, of the time he lingers where he should not. They do not speak to you directly, but you can feel their words coiling around your throat, tightening with every passing day.

You hear them behind you when you walk through the halls: the sharp staccato of hurried footsteps, the low murmur of voices that stop the moment you turn. You catch glimpses of knowing glances, the way the maids shift their eyes when you enter a room, how the guards avert their gazes.

They all know, and yet they know nothing.

Because what is there to know? You have not touched him beyond necessity, have not dared to let your hand linger when you tend his wounds. And yet, the air between you is thick, suffused with something that neither of you has the courage to name.

“You should not come here anymore,” It was late. The apothecary was empty, save for the two of you. You stood with your back to him, arranging jars on the shelves in some vain attempt to distract yourself from the weight of his presence.

“I will decide what I should or should not do,” Marcus replied, his voice steady. You turned to face him, exasperation rising in your chest. “They talk, Marcus. Do you not see the danger in that? For you— for me?” His expression changed fast. “I cannot stop them from speaking,” he said finally, his voice quieter now. “And I will not stop coming.”

“Why?” you demanded, stepping closer. “Why do you care what happens to me? Why do you risk so much just to be here?”

He did not answer immediately. His gaze flicked over your face, searching for something, though you could not say what. Finally, he sighed, the sound heavy. “Because you deserve better than this,” he said. “Better than what the court has given you. Just... better." You shook your head, chest tightening. “That is not an answer.”

“It is the only one I can give you,” he said, stepping closer. “For now." But deep down, you knew better.

And you hated him for it, too.

“I see the way you look at me,” he said one night, his voice breaking the silence. You froze, your hands stilling over the poultice you were preparing. “What?”

“Do not deny it,” Marcus said, his tone softer now. “I know that look. I have seen it on too many faces not to recognize it.” You swallowed hard, your chest tightening. “And what look is that?”

“The one that says you hate me as much as you try to fight it." The words struck you like a blow, and you turned to face him, your cheeks burning. “I do not—”

“You do,” he said simply, cutting you off. “And I do not blame you for it.”

His gaze was steady, his eyes dark and unreadable. For a moment, you thought he might say more, but instead, he stepped closer, his hand reaching out to brush against your arm. “I do not deserve your forgiveness,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I hope for it, all the same.” You did not hate him. you wish you could, because falling in love wasn't what you wanted right now.

“I think about you,” Marcus admitted, his voice raw. “More than I should. More than is safe.” Your breath caught in your throat, your chest tightening as his words sank in. “You shouldn’t,” you whispered, though your voice lacked conviction. “I know.”

The silence between you stretched.

“But why?” you asked, your voice trembling. “Why do you care now, after all this time? You never gave me an answer, Marcus..."

He hesitated, his jaw tightening. “Because I see you,” he said finally. “And I see myself in you—the parts of me I thought were dead. The parts I’ve tried to bury.” You shook your head, tears stinging your eyes. “I don’tㅡ Marcus, if this is all a game to you, of things you want to rediscover within you..."

"It is not. I do not intend to play with your heart."

So why does the blood keep on trickling?

They were wildflowers, clearly gathered from the edges of the palace gardens, and they looked out of place in his calloused hands. He held them out awkwardly, his expression somewhere between defiance and vulnerability, as though he expected you to scold him for the gesture. “For you,” he said simply. You stared at them for a moment, then at him. “Why?” you couldn’t help but smile. “Do I need a reason?” His tone was defensive, but the softness in his gaze betrayed him. No monster.

Your fingers brushed against his as you took the flowers, and he flinched almost imperceptibly, as if the touch burned him. “They’re beautiful,” you said. He didn’t reply, but you thought you saw the corner of his mouth twitch— an almost-smile, there and gone in an instant.

“Are you trying to court me, General?” you asked, half-joking. The question caught him off guard, and he looked at you with something close to panic in his eyes. “No.” You laughed, shaking your head. “Good. You’d be terrible at it.” But the truth was, you didn’t hate the thought.

He started threatening the others after that.

The first time, you hadn’t been there to see it, but you heard about it from one of the maids who whispered to you in passing. “The general,” she said, her eyes wide. “He nearly broke Marcellus’s arm. All because he said something about you.”

He didn’t deny it. “He should not have said what he did,” he said simply, his tone calm but firm. “What did he say?”

“It does not matter.”

“Marcus—”

“It does not matter,” he repeated, his voice sharper now. “What matters is that he will not say it again.”

You wanted to argue with him, to tell him he couldn’t go around threatening people in your name. But the truth was, a part of you was glad. A part of you wanted him to protect you. He didn’t just watch over you—he hovered, his presence a constant shadow that both comforted and unnerved you. When he wasn’t by your side, you found yourself looking for him, craving his presence like air. And when he was with you, you felt safer than you had since your father’s death.

Days passed, and though you told yourself you should push him away, you could not.

He was always there, like a storm on the horizon—inevitable, impossible to ignore. You felt his presence even when he was not near, his voice echoing in your mind, his touch lingering on your skin.

You hated yourself for it. Hated the way your heart leapt when you heard his footsteps, the way your breath hitched when his fingers brushed yours. You tried to convince yourself it meant nothing, that it was a passing infatuation born of grief and the fact that he so happened to be there. You tried to convince yourself that the soft yearning in your chest was fleeting. A passing fancy, born of loneliness and the way Marcus had carved out a space in your world so effortlessly.

But as the days turned to weeks, the intensity of your feelings betrayed you. Every glance he cast your way lingered. Every word he spoke seemed to reverberate in your mind long after it had been said.

And every time his hand brushed against yours—whether by accident or intent—it felt as if the earth shifted beneath your feet.

It was one of those moments now. The two of you stood side by side in the apothecary, the late afternoon sunlight spilling through the windows. He was reaching for a jar of herbs on the shelf above, his arm brushing against yours as he leaned closer.

Your breath hitched, and you stepped back quickly, your movements too sharp, too sudden. “Am I in your way?” Marcus asked, his voice low and amused. “No,” you said hastily, turning to busy yourself with a mortar and pestle. “Not at all.” He did not move, and you could feel his gaze on you, heavy and unwavering. “You always do that,” he said after a moment, his tone thoughtful.

“Do what?”

“Step away.” You forced yourself to meet his eyes. “I do not know what you mean.”

“Yes, you do,” he said quietly. There was no accusation in his voice, only a gentle insistence. “You step away as if the space will make it easier. But it does not, does it?” Your fingers tightened around the pestle. “Marcus—”

“I feel it too,” he said, cutting you off. The words hung between you, raw and unvarnished. You stared at him, your heart pounding. “You should not say that.”

“Why not? Because it is the truth?” He stepped closer, his hand resting on the edge of the table. “Because I look at you and I can think of nothing else? Because when I leave here, all I want is to come back?”

“Marcus, stop.” Your voice was trembling now, a plea more than a command. “I cannot stop,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “And I do not think you can, either.” The room seemed to shrink around you, the air charged with something that felt too big for your soul to understand. “Tell me to leave,” he said, his eyes searching yours. “If this is too much, if I have crossed a line, say the word, and I will go.” You opened your mouth, the words on the tip of your tongue. But they would not come. Because no matter how much you told yourself this was dangerous, reckless, wrong. you did not want him to go.

You did not step back this time. “I cannot,” you whispered, the words breaking free like a confession. His breath hitched, and for a moment, neither of you moved. Then he reached for you, his hand cupping your cheek with a tenderness that made your chest ache. “I do not know how to do this,” you said, your voice trembling. “I do not know what happens now.”

what is this pandora box you have opened?

Before you could respond, his lips were on yours. It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t tentative. It was raw and consuming, as though he’d been holding back a storm and now it was unleashed. His hands slid to frame your face, his thumbs brushing against your cheeks as his lips claimed yours. There was no hesitation, no room for doubt. And, oh, you couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. Your hands found his tunic, clutching the fabric as though it were the only thing keeping you grounded. His scent filling your lungs, his warmth, the feel of him, it was too much and not enough all at once.

When he finally pulled back, his breath was ragged, his forehead resting against yours. “I shouldn’t have done that,” he said, his voice hoarse. “I shouldn’t…”

“You did,” you whispered, your own voice shaky. “And I didn’t stop you.” His lips twitched into the barest hint of a smile, but his eyes remained serious. “Say the word, and I’ll walk away. I swear it.”

You hesitated, the weight of his words settling over you. But then you shook your head, your hand lifting to brush against his cheek. “I wil not say it.” His eyes closed briefly, as though your words had physically hit him. When he opened them again, they were softer, full of something you couldn’t name but felt in every corner of your soul.

“Then I am yours,” he murmured. “For as long as you’ll have me.” You leaned up, your lips brushing against his once more. A promise, a surrender, a beginning.

The Last of Us

The Last Of Us

Warnings; Post apocalyptic world. SMUT! P in v, unprotected sex, don't be silly wrap your willy. Angst. MINORS GET THE F OUT!

Words; 2.493K

A/N; Hello babes! Another day another slay, if you have any request about Joel don't hesitate to send them to me. See you on another fic. bye xxx

Summary; Ever since childhood you had to survive, you were born before the disease so you kinda remembered what was it like, to have a hot shower, clean food etc. You didn’t know what happened to your parents because they were on a vacation and left you with your grandma who passed away during the chaos. You were 10 when it happened, a child who had to be a woman over night. What happens when you are a brink from killing yourself and find purpose again?

Chapter Eight- The Finale

She couldn’t sleep, neither could Joel. They just laid on the bed, Joel’s arms around her, when the first lights of morning came she noticed that he was gone. A sudden panic took her body and soul, she ran to Ellie’s room, she was gone too. How dare they leaving without a goodbye?! Was she disposable to them? Y/N immediately got dressed, the cold air hit her face when she left the house. They should be at the stables, she thought and she ran.

It wasn’t too late, Ellie was there with Joel and Tommy, ‘’Y/N?’’ Tommy asked, confused. Before she could say anything Joel cut in, ‘’Change of plans. I’m taking Ellie, not Tommy.’’ She was so relieved that the thought of them leaving without saying goodbye didn’t matter at all. Joel came up to her, ‘’I’m sorry but you were sleeping like an angle so I didn’t want to wake you up.’’ He shortly explained, when he saw the purple hicky he left on her neck he had a grin on his face, ‘’When I come back,’’ he kissed her forehead, ‘’I’ll have you all to myself.’’

‘’Eww!’’ Ellie made her presence known, ‘’Can we just get the fuck out of here?!’’

Before they got on to the horse she kissed him passionately, his hands went to her waist, ‘Come back to me.’’ She said when they parted, ‘’We will.’’ These last few months Joel realized that he let these two girls in, they became a family and he wasn’t going to let that go. Y/N also didn’t forget to kiss Ellie’s cheeks and making sure that she didn’t feel left out. ‘’Gross but you two are meant for each other.’’ She said with a cheeky smile, ‘’Thank you for the input.’’

The tall wooden doors were opened for them to leave, the last look Joel gave her broke her heart but he had to take Ellie and the Fireflies had to make a cure, the entire world depended on them..

And that was 4 months ago…

She settled quickly, Maria said she could stay at that house which was a relief for her, her job was to work on the fields and teach kids gardening. She took pride and joy in teaching, these children were so different than Ellie and all she hoped for was to see Ellie, not scared and always on the run but relaxed and joyful. She had a ritual, everyday she would wake up early to clean and organize the house so that it would be comfortable for Ellie and Joel when they come back, and every damn day her tired yet hopeful eyes wander the wooden walls, waiting for her family to come in and surprise everyone.

The first 2 months no one dared to even talk to her, she felt as if she was invisible, they seemed scared of her or rather Joel. It didn’t matter to her because she liked the silence, the 3rd month some women at the bar made a small conversation with her about how useful her teaching was and she could feel her heart get warmer, she loved teaching and making a difference.

On the 3rd month she joined Tommy and others to go into the city to find useful things. Others brought soap, clothes and she brought books for kids. She didn’t forget to hide the comic books for Ellie, she put them in her room. During the 3rd month she could hear people whisper about the possibility of Joel and Ellie dying, she tried to dismiss the thought but lately she couldn’t. Every day she grew restless, they kept hearing rumors about raiders chasing and killing people, what if they were hunted by these raiders? What if they were captured and tortured?

Y/N heard the ring which meant the school was finished for today and she watched her students leave the classroom. It was a small space with paintings on the walls, books on the shelves and a big white board, it worked for them and she couldn’t wait to have Ellie in school too. As she gathered her things and put them in her bag she heard some people running and speaking louder than usual. When she popped her head out of the door to see, another teacher approached to her, he was older than her and he was teaching mostly math, chemistry, etc. ‘’What’s going on?’’ she asked, she tried to keep her voice normal but the idea of raiders or clickers climbing those walls made hair shiver in fear. ‘’I think we have new people.’’ He shortly said and it relieved her.

She left the school, the smell of fresh spring air gave her comfort. The flowers and trees were blossoming and filling the air with a nice scent, it reminded her something… her grandma’s backyard.

The school building was further away from the gates but she could still see people gathering towards the gate so she followed them with curiosity. Her heart was beating in her throat, if it was them what was she going to do? What if they already had forgotten about her? Her legs had their own minds, she was practically sprinting to see, and she saw the wooden doors being opened, two people walked in.

She had to suppress her gasp, it was them, Joel and Ellie. Tommy was the first one to greet them, she watched him hug his brother, and Ellie, and then she could see his eyes searching the crowd and they locked eyes, neither of them dared to move a muscle. As soon as Ellie saw Y/N she ran to her and gave her a big hug. It seemed like she needed it, Y/N hugged her back, brushed her hair gently, and whispered ‘’I’m here sweet girl.’’ Y/N cupped Ellie’s cheeks, ‘’Let’s go home, I’m sure you have a long story for me. Let’s get you cleaned up and fed.’’ Together they walked among people, she could feel Joel’s eyes watching them leave.

As Ellie was getting a shower Y/N was getting the dinner ready for them, soup, meat and bread she freshly made this morning. The table was ready, she was about to go and check on her when the door of their home smashed open by none other than Joel Miller. She halted in her steps he closed the door and saw her standing few inches away from him, her intoxicating scent filled his nostrils, she had a long sleeveless dress, it was red and her hair was longer than before, ‘’Hi.’’ She managed to say, ‘’Welcome home.’’ She regretted as soon as she said it, ‘’Home?’’ in these months the place became her home but what about him? In order to change the subject she spoke again, ‘’Dinner is ready, Ellie is in the shower.’’ Before she let him speak she quickly climbed the stairs, her heart was about to jump out of her rib cage, Y/N had to brush the odd feeling and knocked on Ellie’s door. No answer, so she silently opened the door to see Ellie, in her pink robe and sitting on the bed. Her weary brown eyes locked on the window in front of her, shoulders shrunken,  ‘’Ellie, dinner is ready.’’ Y/N said but no answer came, something was off. Y/N approached to her gently, when Ellie startled for a second it broke Y/N’s heart, they spent almost a year together and built a daughter-mother bond and to see it vanish in few months shook her, obviously something bad went down when they were outside, ‘’Dinner is ready.’’ She only nodded which made Y/N sat next to her, ‘’You don’t have to tell me anything but know this,’’ Y/N held Ellie’s hands, ‘’it’s not your fault.’’ And with that Ellie started crying, this was the first time she saw her cry and all she could do was to be there for her, Ellie’s head on her chest, Y/N kept hugging and rubbing her back just like taking care of a baby, it was official, Ellie was hers.

Joel, as soon as he walked through those walls all he wanted to do was to just put Y/N to his shoulder, hold Ellie by the hand and take them home but he didn’t want to scare her so he watched them leave.

When he came home and saw how tidy and clean the inside was and how welcoming she was… Joel was never going to leave her or Ellie. He was struggling though, should he tell Y/N what happened with the Fire flies? How he killed those people to save their girl… it could wait for a while. After all these years he was in pain and torture but after having them in his life, a found family, killing bunch of people to protect them seemed worth it. He wasn’t going to let this go, not in a million years.

However, something in Y/N was changed, the way she looked at him seemed distant, of course, it had been 4 months since they last saw each other and in those months anything can happen, his worst fear was Y/N finding someone younger and more handsome than him. Did his worst fear become true? He was in his dark thoughts when he climbed the stairs and saw Ellie’s door open, Y/N and Ellie were sitting on the bed and talking, he couldn’t help but listen,

‘’it wasn’t your fault.’’

He could see Ellie cry, he was still angry with himself for getting stabbed and that weird man kidnapping Ellie. They never talked about it and he wished he was the one who killed that pervert. He would make it slow, torturing him for days and then he would finish it, not with a gun but with a knife. Gun would be too easy but knife is a lot more intimate and hurts like a bitch. His hands clenched into fists but he was happy to see Ellie letting all out and finding comfort in Y/N, he was never good at these thing anyway, he watched them, hugging each other and Y/N taking the role of the mother, he wished Sarah also had Y/N in her life, she would make his job so easy and coming home to Y/N after a hectic work day would be a bliss, there he was again, in his fantasy world. He quietly closed the door and walked to the parents’ bedroom, everything was the same but cleaner, he hit the shower immediately, when he left he found clean clothes for him on the bed, obviously Y/N put those for him, his heart did a jump. She was so caring and thoughtful, after getting dressed he went downstairs and saw Ellie sitting at the table, food was ready and Joel took his place at the head of the table, ‘’Smells delicious.’’ He made a comment, ‘’Enjoy. Oh Ellie, I found some of your favorite books, they’re in your room on the shelf. Seeing her brown eyes lit worth millions of ‘’thank you’’

Throughout the dinner they avoided the most obvious question; ‘’What happened with the Fireflies?’’

Joel’s yearning looks didn’t go unnoticed by her, after the dinner Ellie said she was tired and would like to go to bed and left them at the table. Y/N, in order to avoid his burning gaze she immediately bolted to her feet and started to do the dishes, Joel joined her, in silence she washed the dishes and he dried them. It was so strange to him to see himself adapting to domestic life just like that. He was meant to be a father and a husband, a provider, he couldn’t escape it anymore.

‘’Thank you.’’ She said with her soft voice, tasted like honey to him and they found themselves standing few inches away from each other, not moving a muscle. Joel wasn’t sure to take the first step and he was still thinking of the possibility that she could be with someone else. To prove him wrong Y/N took a step towards him and kissed him. He melted into her, pushing her to the counter without breaking the kiss, Y/N jumped to the counter, her legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer and closer.  They parted when they were out of breath, his warm brown eyes were like tiny stars, her hands were clung to his shirt, ‘’You came back to me.’’ She said more to herself, eyes never leaving him as if he could disappear, ‘’I’m persistent.’’ he said that before at the car when they were in Kansas City and he was a man of his word. This time he took the lead and kissed her, she could feel her lips getting sore and she didn’t care.

Her hands travelled down and down, found his waist, belt and zipper and her hands thankfully were fast.

He helped her and Joel pulled his cock out, Y/N spit into her mouth and started to stroke it slowly, ‘’Fuuuuck-‘’ he moaned, ‘’Every goddamn night I dreamt of you darlin’ your soft hands,’’ she kept stroking him, ‘’your juicy cunt, uhhh- stop-‘’ he had to stop her because if she kept doing that..

‘’Joel, please, I want you.’’ They had to whisper, Joel’s eyes got darker, she laid on the cold counter, her hand went to pick her dress up, and then she got rid of her panties to show him how wet she was.

Joel watched Y/N finger herself, ‘’Look at you, needy slut,’’ his words were getting her wetter, ‘’Please Joel, I want to feel your cock, I kept touching myself thinking of you.’’ Her confession made his cock twitch, with that he pushed her hand away and positioned himself, he wanted to feel her fully so he just went in, he was thick which was something Y/N forgot so the sensation made her shiver. ‘’Fuck yes-‘’ Y/N was a mess and Joel was the reason, and he knew, deep down he knew that he belonged there, between her legs, in these 4 months he even planned to propose to her and finding her like this… it was done. She had to be his wife.

He leaned into her, kissing her, biting her jaw like an animal, giving her small bites on her neck, she guided his hand to her neck and he gave her what she wanted. He was choking her and fucking her raw, it had to be raw because it had been months away from each other. Y/N liked his harshness, it made her cunt squeeze his cock, his movements got sloppy, ‘’Come in me.’’ She said, sure of herself, ‘’Baby girl-‘’ he was surprised by her request but he had been imagining this, coming in her and giving her a baby. He came after few thrusts, he was balls deep in her, his head in her neck, smelling her scent.

He lifted his head, eyes droopy, ‘’Be mine.’’ He said, ‘’Already yours.’’

Chapter Seven- One Night

‘’We settled here about 7 years ago.’’ Maria was giving the history of the town which called Jackson, as they were walking Y/N noticed that people were looking at them with curiosity in their eyes. They had school, laundry, gardens to grow fruit and vegetables, maybe her dream was becoming true, she liked teaching back at Boston QZ until FEDRA stopped her. She had this stupid idea that Maria and other people in Jackson would want them there, well, what’s humanity without hope persevering.

They had a barn for the horses they ride and the sheep they have, ‘’Hey Joel, check it.’’

Maybe the universe was finally granting their wishes. As Ellie was petting the baby horse Shimmer, Y/N was listening to Maria explaining how things run here,  Maria turned to her husband Tommy ‘’Well, I’m sure they would like a shower, some new clothes. We can put them in the empty house cross the street from us.’’

Joel seemed uncomfortable with things being given to him freely, he wasn’t use to that.

‘’Yeah. It’s a decent place. Pretty much untouched since ’03, but it’s got heat goin’ in it. Could do worse.’’ With the news of heat in a house Y/N was over the moon, so many things she used to have were now luxury.

‘’Trust me, we have been.’’ Ellie said looking at Joel and Y/N for support, ‘’We’ve been doin’ fine.’’ Joel immediately responded, it had been months ever since she met him and she was figuring him out, Joel was a father back then, and being a parent stuck to him, he enjoyed protecting his clan and providing, taking care of things and Jackson represented all the things he couldn’t give to them, to his new found family. He felt little in front of his baby brother, ‘’Yes, we’ve been doing fine but thank you again, for the hospitality.’’ Y/N had this instinct to be on Joel’s side all the time even if he was wrong.

Maria took Y/N and Ellie to their new house while Joel and Tommy went to talk. The house looked normal, two stores, as soon as they walked in they were welcomed by the heat, Maria left them alone to settle, she said they should visit her when they were done. Tommy was true, the house was untouched since forever, it looked cozy with comfortable chairs and yellow light, ‘’Let’s find the kid’s bedroom and you can shower there.’’ Y/N said as they climbed the stairs, ‘’And you’ll shower at parents’ bedroom with Joel.’’ Ellie said with a sarcastic tone and a smirk on her thin lips, she wasn’t stupid. ‘’Ha ha very funny.’’ They found the room, Maria’s people placed clothes for Ellie on the bed, ‘’See you in a bit.’’ And Y/N left her to find the parents’ bedroom, it was normal, big bed with two side tables that had lamps, a brown wardrobe, she found new clothes on the bed. A red sweater, jeans, new boots, underwear etc. She hit the shower immediately, the last time she got a hot shower was at Bill and Frank’s house and that was months ago. Her body welcomed the heat willingly, there were several choices of shampoo and body conditioners and thanks the gods above she found razors! Maybe the night they talked about what they would do manifested itself. As she covered herself with a brown towel and leaving the shower she heard some footsteps but thought it was Ellie. Her hair was damp and loose, her body smelled like the rose scented body wash and she walked into the bedroom finding Joel sitting at the edge of the bed, looking defeated. It was obvious that something was bothering him as soon as they stepped foot on the Jackson. ‘’Hi!’’ she said with a nervous tone, ‘’I’m-‘’ he looked to meet her eyes, ‘’I’m sorry, I was waiting for you to finish-‘’ he was mumbling, she could see the blush creeping on his beautiful face, ‘’Its okay.’’ She was holding the towel she was in with one hand, ‘’Look, they left clothes for us. No offence but please throw the old ones away.’’ She smiled gently and Joel stood up, almost crashing his lips onto hers, the thought of it made his heart beat faster, ‘’I should take a shower.’’ He said and walked past her, smelling the rose scent on her, his mind went to the roses he had in his garden back at Austin Texas, Sarah loved growing flowers.

When Y/N heard the water she got dressed and left the bedroom, found Ellie to visit Maria and Tommy’s place. Their house was right across and the white door was unlocked so they walked in. The fire place was lit, there were books and candles on the coffee table, blankets on the couch, Y/N imagined the happy couple curling up with their books by the fire place, she wondered if she could experience that kind of love.  There was a memorial on top of the fire place for two people called Kevin and Sarah, they thought those were Maria’s children, how they were wrong.

Maria came through the kitchen door which led to their back yard. She brought two coats for Ellie and Y/N, she wasn’t sure if Maria was doing this because she was a kind woman or because of Tommy, either way Y/N was over the moon. As Maria was cutting Ellie’s hair they were talking. They learned that Sarah was Joel’s daughter, it broke Y/N’s heart because she looked at when the day Sarah died, it was on the outbreak, she probably got bit or someone killed her, death of his daughter explained why he was like this. So many questions on her mind were answered.

Maria didn’t forget to warn them about Joel but Y/N and Ellie already heard his reputation back at the QZ, they went to the movies together. At first Y/N thought that Maria was joking, there wasn’t a movie theater but they made place for people to watch movies, they had a white screen and a projector, Y/N was with the adults at the back watching while Ellie was with the kids, sitting. Ellie kept looking at her back to see Y/N, every time she smiled and waved at her, clearly she had trust issues and Y/N was there to make sure that Ellie was heard and seen. Later Ellie said she wanted to explore, at first Y/N wasn’t sure but Maria reassured her, ‘’I’ll be at home, if anything goes bad just ran home and find me okay?’’ Y/N whispered in her ear so that Maria wouldn’t hear. Ellie nodded and left, later Y/N excused herself and walked to her new home. After living in that disastrous apartment this was a palace, whenever she remembered the QZ she had to relive her last day there, she almost killed herself and ready to leave this world, if it wasn’t for Joel she wouldn’t be here, of course coming here wasn’t an easy trip but Y/N, after years of solitude she felt like she had a purpose, keeping Ellie safe and taking care of two people who became so close to her that lately she couldn2t imagine a world without them.

It was a tiring day so climbed the stairs to bedroom to sleep, she didn’t forget to leave few lights on for Joel and Ellie, she found a long t-shirt in that wardrobe and wore it as a pj and carried her tired body to bed, as soon as her head hit the soft pillow she fell asleep.

What woke her up was the loud noises coming from Ellie’s bedroom, she woke up with a rush of adrenalin and run out of the bedroom, Ellie’s room was close to the stairs and hers was down the hall, just few steps. She didn’t have to walk in because she heard only Joel and Ellie, no one else so they weren’t under attack.

‘’You’ll be way better off with Tommy.’’ Joel was explaining his decision and Y/N was silent, listening to them.

‘’Do you give a shit about me and Y/N or not?!’’ Ellie didn’t forget to include her too, ‘’Of course I do.’’ They were yelling at this point, she wanted to barge in and stop it but it wasn’t her place, they had to figure this out on their own. ‘’Then what are you so afraid of? I’m not her you know?!’’

Y/N’s hand went to cover her mouth, Ellie shouldn’t have brought Sarah into this, ‘’I’m sorry about your daughter Joel, but I’ve lost people too.’’

‘’You have no idea what loss is.’’ Joel’s unusual tone sent icy shivers to her spine, Ellie was on thin ice, ‘’Everybody I have cared for has either died or left me. Everybody, fucking except for you and Y/N!’’

Y/N was waiting impatiently for Joel to break his silence, she knew he was a stubborn man who would never back off from his decision, ‘’Now, come dawn we’re goin’ our separate ways.’’

Y/N was standing there, shocked to hear his words as Joel left Ellie’s room and slammed the door shut, she flinched, Joel saw her standing there, hair loose and in a long t-shirt, he quickly regret what just happened, he didn’t want her to see him like this but he couldn’t undo it, the damage was done. He walked to their shared bedroom, what surprised her was that he didn’t close the door, was this an invitation? Y/N hesitated at first but she had to talk to him, he couldn’t just treat Ellie like this. She walked to the bedroom, closed the door behind her, ‘’Care to explain your decision with me too or am I suppose to find out myself?’’ this was the first time she was confronting him, he was standing, back facing her, ‘’You heard.’’ His answer angered her even more, ‘’So you’re gonna ditch us. Perfect.’’ She kept her voice low so that Ellie wouldn’t hear her. Joel turned to face her, a deep frown, a sudden light in his eyes, a light that Y/N couldn’t put a finger on, ‘’I have to leave you. This is for your own good.’’ He was speaking as if he rehearsed his speech, ‘’And why is that Miller?!’’ he couldn’t believe the fire she had, usually she was so calm and gentle, seeing her like this.. he liked it. He took a step closer to her, ‘’Why can’t you understand woman?! I’m not capable of protecting you any longer, I can’t.’’ he paused to say something, thought better and stopped, he wanted to scream at her ‘’I cannot afford to lose you!’’ but he couldn’t do it, unbidden tears came to her all at once, there were mere inches between them so with all the force she had she pushed him with both hands, well, it didn’t make him move but the point was made, she turned to leave but Joel found himself grabbing her arm to stop her. She frowned, questioning him, ‘’Don’t’’ he whispered gently, ‘’Don’t go.’’ He pulled her towards his torso, ‘’Give us a one good night.’’ He was begging. Ever since he saw her for the first time at the QZ he couldn’t stop thinking about her. She kept consuming his thoughts and spending months together, sleeping close to each other, watching her take care of them didn’t help at all. He had to have her all for himself tonight, he only wished for his feelings to be mutual. Her head pressed his torso, she could feel how frantic his breathing was, his big hands went to her back, hugging her. She lifted her gaze to meet his dark ones, there was a silent agreement, tonight was theirs and tomorrow he was leaving her, with a broken heart she lifted herself to match his height to kiss him.

The kiss was a relief, all those lost opportunities during the time they spent together came crushing down, Joel eagerly kissed her back, his hands went to her ass cheeks and he cupped them with a sudden force which made Y/N to open her mouth and moan in pleasure, it drove him crazy. He just wanted to slam her against the wall and take her but he wanted to savor her, he wanted to remember this for the rest of his life. Her hands went to his face, gently caressing, his beard tickling her palms, their bodies seemed glued to each other, she pulled back to breath, it was too much. She thought she would see regret in his dark eyes but all she found was desire, she was glad. ‘’Do you want this?’’ Joel asked, his forehead against hers, ‘’Yes, please-‘’ the way she begged triggered something in him and his hands went to lift her oversized t-shirt, she was naked underneath, he liked what he saw. Y/N could feel a sudden shyness creeping to her face but she kept calm, let him look at her up and down, he was a man starved, her hands went to her green plaid shirt, their movements got quicker the seconds past by.

She traced her fingers to the old scars on his broad chest, she wanted to ask him the story of his scars but the desire consumed them together, he stopped her hands when she reached to his jeans, she looked puzzled but Joel guided her to the bed, gently laid her to watch him get undress for her.

It was a sight sore eyes, he was completely naked and she could see how thick he was, should she be nervous?

‘’Spread your legs for me.’’ He said with a low baritone, he spit into his palm and his hand went to his cock, stroking as she spread her legs for him, she was getting wetter and wetter, ‘’Touch yourself.’’ In one of his fantasies Y/N was touching herself like this, Y/N’s one hand went to her slick folds and other to her tit, squeezing, she arched her back with the sensation, Joel was hard as a rock and couldn’t take it any longer. He knelt on the bed between her legs, heavy breaths filled the room, anticipation killed Y/N, she had dreams of this moment for months, Joel rubbed the tip of cock to her wet core, she shuddered in agony, she wanted him inside and quick, ‘’We have to be quiet, can you do that for me darlin’? Can you be a good girl and take it?’’ this new side of Joel surprised her in a good way, she nodded but it wasn’t enough for him. ‘’Use your words sugar.’’ He was still rubbing the tip of his cock and driving her mad with the sensation, ‘’Yes, I’ll do what you say please just fuck me please.’’ Joel was also surprised to see this side of her, chasing after what she demanded, ‘’Good girl.’’ He praised her, ‘’I have to open you up first.’’ He announced and opened her up with his two thick fingers, she had to shut her mouth with her palm to stop herself from moaning loud but the muffled voices made his cock jump in excitement. He fingered her slowly, it had been a while for them since their last sexual encounters, probably years, so Joel was taking it slow, they had the night for themselves.

The wet sounds of her soaked cunt made pumped blood to his cock, his fingers were merciless, giving her pleasure but not there yet. He curled his two fingers and her legs started to shake, she leaned her weight on her elbows so that she could kiss him passionately, ‘’Joel,’’ she said out of breath, ‘’please, I can’t take it any longer..’’

She was ready, more than ready in fact, Joel removed his thick fingers and tasted his fingers, her juice was divine, he wanted to taste her but there was no time. He had to be up and leaving in 5 hours, he shook that thought away. Joel kissed her back and with one of his hand he choked her gently, guided her to lay on her back again, he gently pushed in, tip first, her mouth opened in the shape of O, obviously trying to control herself. He pushed his length fully and this time she couldn’t hold her scream. Joel immediately kissed her swollen lips, Y/N kissed him back her hands scratching his back. Once he was fully in her he let her adjust to his thickness and length, Y/N didn’t want to admit to him but he was the biggest of all the suitors she had. He pulled back and slammed into her again, now she was more comfortable, ‘’You want me to-‘’ Joel again wanted her consent to keep going, ‘’Just fuck me please.’’ Her reply gave him confidence. Her legs hugged his hips, with every thrust her nails digging into his back, he didn’t forget to give her multiple hickies so that she would remember him for a while, maybe it was selfish but he didn’t care. Skin slapping to each other and their moans added to their pleasure, Joel almost came when he hit a spot in her, it was spongy and both of them could feel the effect on each other, she knew that the next few days her body would be sour. His head was at the crook of her neck, sucking the skin, her hand was pulling his gorgeous hair. ‘’Fuck-‘’ Joel cursed, ‘’I’m gonna come.’’ He said, ‘’Your pussy is so tight, milkin’ me so good.’’ He just wanted to came in her, in his sick fantasies he was having kids with Y/N and living together for the rest of his life, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad… he pulled out before he came and jerked himself off on her stomach. Their bodies covered in sweat, chests raising and falling. Joel knew she didn’t came so he did something he desperately wanted to do. He went down on her. Since she was already close it was short but he get to eat that pussy like a man starved. Her soft lips and sticky juice drove him mad, his tongue hitting all the right spots, at first she was going to stop him from doing it but once he licked her pussy her eyes rolled back at her skull and she could swear that she saw galaxies when she came undone.

They laid next to each other, panting heavily. ‘’Y/N-‘’ Joel wanted to talk to her but she stopped him, ‘’Don’t.’’ she turned to him, ‘’Let’s just sleep. We have only one night.’’

Chapter Six – Unsaid Feelings

It was a windy morning with dark clouds, as if the universe was dramatic enough to set the scene, Henry and Sam were dead and that was it. This world didn’t have a room for emotional release, you just had to keep going but the practical man Joel Miller came up to her and said something which surprised her, ‘’We should burry them.’’ Ellie was in an another room, but Y/N was sure that she was listening to them, Joel wasn’t a man of sharing his feelings or wasting time but there was a shift in him which Y/N couldn’t put a finger on. Y/N helped him bury their dead that morning, yes she got tired before the long road ahead of them but it had to be done. When they were done Ellie showed up to put the small device which Sam was communicating through on his grave. Y/N approached to see what she wrote and it said ‘’I’m sorry.’’ Which broke Y/N’s heart, Ellie was a 14 years old child, she should be at school or hanging out with her friends instead of experiencing death again and again. After that morning none of them uttered a word of either Sam or Henry, however their deaths weight on them.

It had been three months and in those months a lot of things have happened, they had to pick up winter clothes because of the change of season, the more they kept walking the more they were surrounded by forest which was a good thing because the infected were nowhere to be found but that didn’t mean that they were safe, people were a lot worse than the infected. Every morning Y/N gathered snow to melt on the fire and made them wash their faces, Joel and Ellie didn’t complain, after that they would walk for miles, sometimes Ellie would ask questions about how things used to be back in the day and Joel was happy to explain, Y/N could see that over time he got close to Ellie. When she looked from outside perspective they looked like father and daughter and the hard thing was that she didn’t know where to put herself in this new found family. Joel was really good at hunting, thanks to him they had meat every night, Y/N made sure to say thank you every night which didn’t go unnoticed by him, Joel was still surprise to see her so naïve and gentle. Back in Kansas City she didn’t hesitate to shoot someone to save him, she didn’t question him when he said that they should bury Sam and Henry, she was so strange sometimes and it puzzled his emotions. She was  quick to accept his rules, Joel was hunting and leading, Y/N was gathering things like wood to make fire, berries etc. and she was so skilled at taking care of Ellie that Joel often found himself watching them interact. In her backpack she had a lot of things and Joel watched her brush Ellie’s hair every morning, she had nail clipper, tooth paste and tooth brush for everybody, she said that she picked those things for them when they were at Frank and Bill’s place. These things would have never came to his mind to pick because they seemed unnecessary to him, hell she even had toilet papers and magazines just in case. He liked those details though, of course he would never admit that he liked how attentive she was with them but it was entertaining to watch.

They were lost for sure and Joel was getting impatient to find his brother Tommy, when they saw a small cabin with smoke coming from its chimney Joel turned to them, ‘’They might be armed so I’ll go in first and see, later I’ll whistle and you’ll come. Understood?’’ Ellie and Y/N nodded and watched him leave, he first checked the windows  but the curtains made it hard to see who was inside, and then he opened the wooden door and walked in, didn’t forget to leave the door open for them. After what seemed like a minute they heard the whistle, ‘’Get your gun out.’’ Y/N said to Ellie and together they approached to the cabin and what they found was a relief. There was an old lady who seemed nice, Y/N closed the door behind her, it was warm inside and well furnished, for a second she thought how would it be to live in a two store cabin like this with Joel and Ellie, always warm and relaxed. It was heart breaking to dream of things you cannot obtain.

‘’My husband will arrive soon, so sit and I’ll make you soup.’’ The old lady said, her weight made it hard for her to walk but she managed. Y/N gave a questioning look to Joel and he understood, ‘’We’re travelling and got lost,’’ he showed the map to the woman and asked few questions, she answered them without a beat which made Y/N think she was telling the truth. When the soup was done they sat on the table, ‘’Thank you ma’am,’’ Y/N said, she never underestimated the hospitality, it was rare these days, ‘’Ellie say thank you.’’ She whispered. ‘’Thank you.’’ She said shortly and together they ate, there was even salad on the table. After that Joel told them to go upstairs and wait for the old lady’s husband. After a while and old man showed up, his face was hard to read but it was obvious that they were older than Joel, ‘’Who the hell are you?’’ he said to Joel. ‘’Just someone passin’ through.’’ He replied holding his gun at him. Ellie and Y/N were watching from a corner, ‘’Why didn’t you shoot him?’’ the old man asked his wife with disdain. ‘’The gun is all the way over there.’’ Her response almost made Y/N laugh, she was a sweet lady and Y/N was sure that she would have never shoot them especially after seeing that they have a kid with them. ‘’He didn’t hurt me by the way.’’ Her sarcastic response put a smile to her and Ellie’s face. ‘’Yeah I got eyes.’’ The old man clapped back, Y/N wondered how would it be to grow old with someone, experiencing life’s burdens with them and having kids.. today she was dreaming a lot. It wasn’t good. ‘’You made him soup?’’ the man asked and rolled his eyes at his wife’s generosity. ‘’Yeah, I did. It’s cold out.’’

‘’I’m lookin’ for my brother.’’ Joel cut in, impatient. ‘’Well,  I ain’t seen him.’’ The old man replied shortly, clearly he didn’t care. ‘’I haven’t told you what he looks like.’’ He answered, ‘’He looks anything like you?’’ the man asked, ‘’A bit.’’ Joel still didn’t lower his gun. ‘’Then I ain’t seen him.’’ That was his answer.

‘’He’s got his wife and kid with him.’’ The old lady said which made Joel look at the old lady in shock, well, they didn’t explain who they were when they barged into their house so it was normal for her to assume, for a second he felt a warm feeling in his chest, like drinking hot coco and watching the snow from the window with family. Y/N as also startled too because she could hear their conversation clearly and the fact that he didn’t correct the old lady made her feel a way which she couldn’t explain and the little devil Ellie took advantage of her shock, ‘’Can we come down?’’ she heard her ask Joel, ‘’No, Ellie!’’ it was too late, Ellie held her hand and pulled Y/N, she just had to follow. Together they went downstairs, ‘’What did I just say?’’ Joel was in grumpy mood, Ellie was holding her gun at the old man, ‘’Come on, they’re like a thousand!’’ Ellie said dismissively. ‘’Who is this little psycho?’’ the man seized you up, ‘’Nice family.’’ He said sarcastically, ‘’Never mind them. I need you to tell us where we are.’’ Joel showed the map to the man, ‘’If you got a map, why you lost?’’ he questioned, ‘’Must have missed all the street signs in the enormous fucking forest.’’ Ellie snapped back quickly before Y/N  could shut her up, she was a lot more braver than Y/N or… stupid.

‘’Ho-ly.’’ The man and woman started to laugh together, ‘’We’re somewhere here. Exactly where?’’ Joel painted at the map for the man to see, ‘’And your answer better be the same as your wife’s.’’ of course he was threatening but Y/N knew he wouldn’t hurt these people… or would he? Back at the Boston QZ there were rumors about him and what he is capable of.

‘’Did you tell him the truth?’’ the old man asked his wife, ‘’Yeah.’’

‘’Are you tellin’ me the truth?’’ he asked again, ‘’Yeah.’’

The man reluctantly pointed a place at the map, it seemed like Joel trusted them enough to put his gun away, ‘’Well, you found a great place to hide, I guess.’’ The way he spoke and sat on the green couch seemed almost defeated. It broke her heart. ‘’Hide?’’ the man asked confused, ‘’Came here before you were born sonny.’’ The man replied, Ellie sat next to Joel, Y/N sat on Joel’s left side, she did something she never thought she would, she touched his hand gently, which made him look up at her, ‘’We’ll manage.’’ She said quietly.

‘’We came here to get the hell away from everybody.’’ The man explained, ‘’I didn’t want to.’’ The lady replied sadly. ‘’Listen, I didn’t mean to upset you about your brother, but if you’ve come this far.. then you know what’s out there. You seen Cody?’’

‘’Yeah, got close enough. Its crawling with infected.’’ Y/N spoke, it was a miracle they got out of there without the infected hearing them. ‘’Laramie, and Wind River Reservation, anywhere people used to be, you can’t go there no more.’’ The man explained with much softer tone, ‘’So you haven’t heard the name Tommy?’’ the thing about Joel was that he was persistent and Y/N’s hand was still holding his, he didn’t protest, her hand was warm and small in his. ‘’Nope.’’

‘’What about the FireFlies?’’ Ellie asked, ‘’We get those in the summer.’’ The lady said seriously, which was obvious that they didn’t know anything about FEDRA or FireFly,  ‘’Not the bugs, the people.’’ Ellie said rather harshly, ‘’There are firefly people?’’ the lady asked confused, and then the couple laughed again. The man gave them directions and warned them about the river of death, he said there were bodies there both infected and normal people’s dead bodies. Before they left Y/N didn’t forget to thank them for everything and she closed the door behind her, watched Ellie steal two rabbits from them, ‘’Ellie!’’ she warned, ‘’put that back.’’ Joel said he was walking ahead of them, he stopped to hold the wooden log which was in front of him to catch a breath, or so she thought. When she came close it was obvious that something was wrong, ‘’Joel? Joel?’’ she said but obviously he had some trouble. ‘’Ellie stay back.’’ She announced and made him look at her, she held his hands, ‘’Deep breaths with me come on, you can do it.’’ Ellie didn’t understand what was going on but Y/N knew that Joel was having some kind of a panic attack. His chocolate eyes focused on her, doing what she told him helped him to breathe again. And they didn’t talk about his attack that day, or the way the old couple assumed that they were a family. Snow was everywhere and the more they walked the more it was getting hard to breath, she didn’t complain though, there were a lot of messed up places to be right now but the walk was somewhat peaceful. ‘’How old are you Y/N?’’ Ellie asked,  ‘’30, why?’’

‘’What about you Joel?’’ she didn’t answer Y/N’s question, ‘’56, what’s your point?’’

‘’Wow, the age gap!’’ she sarcastically joked, Y/N and Joel were lucky enough to blame the blush on their cheeks on the winter breeze. ‘’Just thinking of what that old lady said.’’ Ellie finally spoke what she meant, ‘’Let people assume whatever they want. It’s easy that way.’’ Y/N was quick to respond, Joel didn’t make any comments.

It was getting late so they set up a camp in a cave, Y/N gathered wood to start the fire, she used to camp with her parents any chance they got so she knew what kind of berries to eat and avoid or how to start a fire. Joel took the rabbits that Ellie stole and skinned them, while he was busy she kept herself busy too. Organized her backpack and Ellie’s, it was a beautiful night, one could see the green northern lights, it was mesmerizing, Joel whistled for Ellie to come down, it was calm, they could hear the owls. Joel was drinking from his flask, Y/N was standing a few feet away from them still watching the lights, ‘’Can I have some? Just to warm up.’’ She could hear Ellie say and she immediately turned to see Joel handing the flask to her, ‘’Absolutely not Ellie!’’ her gaze made Joel pull his hand back, ‘’You’ll drink when you’re old enough.’’ Her authoritarian voice amused him, she had such a mom energy that made him feel warm inside, maybe it was the booze. Unfortunately Joel and Sarah’s mother were divorced and she was too troubled to take care of Sarah so she removed herself from them and Joel couldn’t bring himself to remarry and have Sarah a stepmom, well, back then he kept himself busy with work and never dated, things were moving smoothly with work, Sarah and Tommy but every once in a while he caught himself imagining a family life just like everyone had. It wouldn’t hurt to come home to a loving wife after a long day at work, to have family dinners and holidays together… he was yearning something he didn’t get to have when the world was normal but recently he kept having these daydreams, he felt like a pervert with sick fantasies but the things he daydreamed about were so simple which involved Y/N….

He came back to the reality with a question from Y/N, it seemed Ellie and Y/N were talking about what they were going to do after the Fireflies take her blood and make a cure, Ellie said she would like to go to the moon, ‘’What would you like to do Joel?’’ Y/N asked with a low tone, eyes dove, ‘’Its never been an option.. ‘’ he cleared his throat, he forced himself to look away from her because he was afraid he would utter the things he thought about her, ‘’Maybe.. and old farmhouse, some land.. a ranch.’’ He replied, ‘’Seems like an old person’s dream. What kind?’’ Ellie didn’t forget to give him hard time, ‘’Sheep. I would raise sheep. They’re quiet.. do what they told.’’ This tone was directed at Ellie, Y/N giggled and Joel hid his smile. ‘’What about you Y/N?’’ Ellie asked, ‘’I love gardening, not just flowers like vegetables and fruit. I know a lot about it so that’s what I would do.’’ She answered shortly, ‘’You two are such alike. You know what you should go to his ranch and live together,  It would be romantic. I’ll come visit from the moon.’’

Joel and Y/N just looked at each other, neither of them could say anything, ‘’Its late.’’ Joel said changing the subject, ‘’I’ll take the first watch.’’ Y/N announced and stood up. She gave a forehead kiss to Ellie before she walked away and took Joel’s rifle, it was a habit of hers. Every night she gave Ellie a goodnight kiss and never forget to tuck her in, Ellie didn’t complain.

Throughout the night Y/N didn’t want to wake him up because he seemed tired so she switched with Ellie, it was about time to give her responsibility, of course under Y/N’s watch. Well, she knew Joel would be grumpy and angry about it but Y/N wanted him to be well rested. ‘’I’m responsible for both of you, okay?!’’ he said seriously, ‘’We’ll wake you up next time, come on,’’ Y/N gave him a cup of water to refresh, ‘’be quick.’’ There she was again, with her small details and taking care of them. Joel could feel a certain tightness in his jeans, she was attractive and loving. It had been a while since he tasted such warmth… he shook his head to regain conscious.

It was snowing when they passed a bridge, under it the river was frozen, she hoped that it wasn’t the river of death, but so far so good, no one was around. As usual their walk was quiet, ‘’What can you grow during winter?’’ Ellie asked Y/N, ‘’Kale, spinach, collard, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, and leeks. Not to brag but I’m a good cook.’’ They were walking side by side, Joel was ahead but listening to their conversation, ‘’Sorry but I didn’t understand half of what you fucking said.’’ Ellie replied, ‘’Well, come visit our ranch I’ll cook for you.’’ Y/N said without knowing the fact that Joel was eavesdropping, the thought of living together made him smile, thankfully no one could see it. On their way they saw a dam, which made her wonder if there were people living by cause it seemed working.

‘’Wow, look at that river its crazy blue.’’ Ellie announced, she was right. Joel and Y/N were walking side by side and Ellie following behind, ‘’Hey guys, what if this is the river of death?’’ her question made Joel stop and look at the map which was in his pocket. She came close to look, Ellie’s suspicions came true because soon enough they were surrounded by people on horses, they had cowboy hats and covered the half of their faces with clothes, not to mention that they were armed. Joel held Ellie’s hand instinctively and so did Y/N, but they couldn’t escape, they were surrounded. ‘’Get behind us!’’ Y/N said to Ellie, hands raised, ‘’We ain’t lookin’ for any trouble. We’re just passin’ through.’’ He announced, ‘’Drop the gun.’’ A man in the middle said, he seemed like was the leader of his group, Joel dropped his rifle unwillingly, Y/N’s gun was inside her pocket which no one could see, if there was any trouble she had to be quick to shoot, Ellie had to take few steps back, it was the man’s orders. ‘’You been near infected?’’ he asked directly at Joel, ‘’There’s no infected out here.’’

‘’The hell there ain’t.’’ he didn’t seem to be convinced, the group had a dog with them, ‘’If you’ve been infected, the dog will smell it and he’ll rip you up.’’

Y/N could feel her heart go ice, Ellie was immune but they didn’t know if she had the virus in her, this was bad, really bad. Joel and Y/N looked at each other, ‘’Its okay.’’ She whispered when she saw how scared he was. This was the first time she was him scared, the man faced dozens of evil people and infected but didn’t show any sign of anxiety but right now he felt like he couldn’t breathe.

The dog smelled them first and they were clean and the man who was holding the dog walked to Ellie, Y/N closed her eyes and wished, wished that they would survive this.

She could hear her heart beating in her ears, the pressure almost made her pass out but when Ellie’s giggles were heard she sighed deeply, Joel was relieved too. When they turned to look Ellie was petting the dog and the dog was happy to receive the pets, wiggling his tail. ‘’What are you doing out here?’’ the man asked, the group still had their guns pointed at them, ‘’I’m just lookin’ for my brother.’’ A woman who was behind that man approached, she looked confident on her horse, ‘’What’s your name?’’ she demanded, ‘’Joel.’’ He replied. And that was it they didn’t exchange any more words, the group gave them two horses, Y/N was riding alone and Ellie was with Joel. They followed the group which let them to a town. The big wooden walls opened for them to enter, Y/N was shocked to see civilization again, she only knew FEDRA and what it capable of, this place was just like before the outbreak. Even though Y/N didn’t know anything about these people there was a sense of community here, she felt welcomed. ‘’Tommy!’’ she heard Joel scream and saw a man running to him, two brothers uniting again was a rare experience in this world, there were no planes, no buses and let’s not forget to mention the infected, despite all the odds Joel managed to find his brother and also kept them safe, he was persistent just like he mentioned back at Kansas City. A man of his word.

Tommy escorted them to a canteen, it was warm inside and yellow lights, the smell of delicious food, this was heaven. They were served like kings and queens. Ellie was eating without breathing, Y/N was more careful, she was still observing, when she realized that Tommy is watching them she kindly smiled. They weren’t alone though, the woman who was with the group was sitting next to Tommy. They seemed close, ‘’There is more if you need it.’’ The woman said to Ellie, ‘’Thank you ma’am. It’s been a while since we had a proper meal.’’ Seeing Joel trying to be kind was hilarious to Y/N, she nodded when he looked at her, ‘’Actually,  I don’t think I’ve have had a proper meal, this is fucking amazing.’’

Joel and Y/N at the same time with the same rhythm warned Ellie, which made Tommy smile, ‘’Let’s mind our manners.’’

Ellie was right, the food was fucking amazing, and it had been months since they had warm meal. After few discussions they learned that the woman’s name was Maria and they were married. Y/N noticed the golden rings but didn’t want to assume anything, however Joel seemed lost for words when he learned the news, ‘’Oh shit, congrats.’’ Ellie said, she genuinely seemed happy for them, ‘’Congratulations!’’ Y/N was also happy for them even though she didn’t know them. They seemd happily married and most people didn’t get to experience that, still, Joel was silent and looking at Tommy with a shocked expression, ‘’Joel, say congrats.’’ Ellie whispered, ‘’Congrats.’’ He shortly replied. He didn’t sound happy. Tommy, in order to change the subject spoke, ‘’Maybe I should congratulate you too.’’ He gestured to Ellie and Y/N.

Immediately her cheeks got heated, this was the third time people thought that they were a family. Joel liked the warm fuzzy feeling of being a part of a family even though his face didn’t show it. Y/N cleared her throat but none of them said anything against it. Ellie was occupied with eating that she probably didn’t hear them, Joel and Y/N exchanged looks, she didn’t know what he was thinking but the fact that he didn’t correct Tommy made her feel like she belonged to something or rather someone… ‘’How ‘bout a tour?’’ Tommy was good at changing the topic.

You were 10 when it happened, a child who had to be a woman over night. What happens when you are a brink from killing yourself and find purpose again?

Chapter Five – A spark

‘’Joel, they’re just kids.’’ She  said as a little boy pointing his gun at your face, they seemed more afraid then you were, Joel was on the floor, cursing himself for the fact that he didn’t hear these two boys sneaking up on him like that, ‘’Okay.’’ He sounded calm and collective, ‘’He just has an asshole voice. Joel tell them that everything is fine.’’ Ellie was also concerned for the situation, ‘’Can we trust you?’’ the older boy asked, she noticed that the boy’s hands were shaking, ‘’Can I sit up?’’ Joel asked, and they allowed. In the middle of the night you woke up to find a spot to pee but caught off guard, they made you walk silently to your group and wake them up, thankfully they lowered their guns. The boy said his name was Henry and the younger boy was his brother Sam, Sam was a cutie, he couldn’t speak so Henry was communicating in sign language, they seemed to have a strong bond which Y/N envied, she was an only child. Turns out Henry was a wanted man in this city and they were also looking for them so that’s what they had in common. Joel was hesitant to share the food they had but Y/N kindly placed her hand on his he one and smiled, ‘’That smile will be the end of me.’’ Joel thought but said nothing.

When the morning came they set off, Ellie and Sam were playing together so the grown up ones could get a chance to talk, ‘’Welcome to killer city.’’ Henry said as he was viewing the city in broad day light, ‘’No FEDRA?’’ Joel asked, Y/N was listening to them, Henry explained that 10 days ago the people took over and killed FEDRA officers, Y/N had a bad feeling, because she knew that violence will create more violence. ‘’But you’re not FEDRA?’’ Y/N asked, ‘’Worse, I’m a collaborator.’’ Henry replied and Y/N saw the immediate change on Joel’s face, ‘’I don’t work with rats.’’ He moved away from Henry while holding Y/N arm to pull her where he was headed, ‘’Joel,’’ she whispered, his hand still on her arm, ‘’What?’’ he sounded annoyed. ‘’You don’t know his situation,’’ you pointed at Sam, ‘’what if he did that for his little brother? Let’s listen to his plan.’’ She was right and he knew that, it was hard for him to let go of arm, he turned to Henry, ‘’We’re listening.’’

Henry’s plan was simple, too simple, however they had no other plan and he was the only one who knew the city, the last time Y/N and Ellie got confused by the map they almost ended up dead.

Together they followed Henry to the tunnels, ‘’See? My plan is good.’’ Henry said enthusiastically, Joel rolled his eyes, ‘’We’ve been down here for 2 seconds. We don’t know anything.’’

‘’Your dad’s kind of a pessimist.’’ Henry said looking at Ellie, before they could say anything, ‘’Yes he is. Let’s keep moving.’’ Y/N announced and started to walk pass them, Joel could feel the blush creeping on his cheeks, why didn’t she corrected Henry?

What really surprised Y/N was that they came across a place looked like kindergarten. There were toys, comic books and paintings on the walls, ‘’I’ve heard about places like this.’’ Joel said looking around, his hand still on his gun, ‘’People went underground after outbreak day. Built settlements.’’

They were looking around when Y/N heard Ellie and Sam playing together, she stopped whatever she was doing and started to watch them with a smile painting her pretty face, Joel couldn’t stop himself from looking at her, she was leaning on a wall, arms crossed, Henry  came to stand next to him, Joel turned to face him, there was a knowing look on Henry’s face, ‘’If you were collaboratin’ to take care of him.. I shouldn’t have said what I said.’’ He remembered Y/N’s words, ‘’I don’t know your situation.’’ His eyes fixated on Y/N who was watching the kids play, ‘’Did she have a child?’’ Joel wondered because shelooked like she was yearning for something, Henry exhaled a breath and told Joel about their situation, it was heartbreaking but today’s world was cruel.

They moved when it got dark so that the chances of getting caught was limited, Y/N was walking on Joel’s right side when Joel looked at her and got her arm again and pulled her to his left side, Y/N looked puzzled, ‘’My right ear got damaged so its hard for me to hear. Stay on my left side, always.’’ His soft brown eyes were demanding, expecting a reaction from her, she only nodded in understanding, her gaze went to her arm, his hand was still there and dominant, it sent warmth to her, a calm warmth, like walking into your home after a storm, safe.

‘’No one is here.’’ Henry was right, the streets were empty, no light coming from a house, ‘’No one’s gonna be here because my plan worked.’’ Henry finished, smiling confidently, ‘’So much god damn talkin’.’’ She could sense Joel’s doubts, she didn’t know what he experienced throughout these years but whatever that was made him question and doubt everything. She wanted to prove him that for once things can go smoothly but not today because today he was right again. The place was swarmed by people who were looking for Henry and Sam, they came with trucks and with heavy ammo, Y/N couldn’t believe that the leader of this group gathered armed people to chase them.

They had to hide behind a car while Joel was waiting to shoot whoever dared to came close to them from a house nearby. He didn’t have time to panic but he could feel his heart beat go faster, he had to admit he wasn’t scared in his life before Ellie and Y/N showed up, he sometimes even thought that the fear had left him 23 years ago but since he met them he started to have these dreams, dreams of losing them but not fucking today.

Y/N was holding Ellie’s hand, they could hear Kathleen, the leader of this group speak to Henry, ‘’let them leave they’re just children!’’ Y/N begged, her voice shaking in fear, ‘’Kids die, they die all the time. Now come out Henry.’’

When Henry decided to come out her blood ran could, he was ready to sacrifice himself for his little brother. Before Kathleen could shoot him they heard a loud thud, the truck which crashed and blew up fell into a hole and the screams of infected filled their ears, she could feel herself shake, her grip on Ellie got tighter but none of them said anything. The hole on the ground got bigger and bigger and seconds which felt like centuries came to an end and the infected started to climb from the ground, turns out what Henry said was true, FEDRA did locked the infected underground.

Now they had a bigger problem, Ellie was immune but not others, hundreds of them were attacking Kathleen’s men, one thing she learned from Joel is that infected were blind and they would come to sounds, ‘’We have to move!’’ she said, they couldn’t just sit on the ground and wait for death, one of the infected climbed on top of the car which they were waiting and suddenly the infected was shot, she looked up to see that Joel was still there covering for them. It gave her somewhat relief, someone was out there looking after her…

Y/N and Joel shared eye contact from a far but that was enough for her to guide the group, she made a line with them her, Ellie, Sam and Henry and she became the leader, she was the only adult one and she had to be in sync with Joel. Unfortunately things always don’t go smoothly, they got separated, Ellie and Y/N were crawling on the ground to reach to a car which had an open window, the screams of people and infected were hard to ignore, she could feel her heart in her throat. ‘’Go,go,go!’’ She helped Ellie to get in but before she could do that she was attacked so she had to go under the car, she could hear Ellie screaming for her but it was impossible for Y/N to climb back to inside the car. When she heard a loud growl she thought this was the end, even in her end she thought of others what would Joel do when he realize that she was gone? It was obvious that he had lost people in the past so would that be the last incident to take him down to a dark pit? Would he be able to come back? To her surprise Ellie was the one who came to her rescue, Y/N didn’t understand why she would come back to save her? To Ellie she was nothing, she only needed Joel to get to the doctors of Firefly.

Joel didn’t have the luxury to make a mistake at this very moment because it was Y/N and Ellie, two girls who became the center of his lonely life, he kept shooting while Ellie was helping Y/N and he couldn’t help but feel proud. ‘’That’s what Sarah would do.’’

When they saw Henry and Sam struggling Ellie and Y/N looked at each other and without a word nodded, they both marched to get them and every time they took a step an infected was shot dead, they had knives and when they reached to them they stabbed the infected in their skulls so that they could pull Sam and Henry under the car. All of them ran to the house which Joel was shooting from, he literally sprinted to meet them, he couldn’t remember when was the last time he ran like that.

Karma was real, because at the end Kathleen who was a child murderer was attacked by a child clicker and died which bought them time to leave that chaos behind.

‘’Are you okay?’’ Joel asked as they were walking, he was asking all of them but his eyes were moving between Ellie and Y/N, ‘’Are you hurt?’’ he asked again, ‘’No, I’m fine. We’re fine.’’ She said when she realized that he pointed the question to her. She wasn’t bit thankfully, guess universe wanted her to see this through.

They ran for a while, when the screams of infected wouldn’t reach their ears they started to walk.

Joel and Y/N checked the motel they had found, it was empty and beds looked more comfortable than sleeping on the floor. ‘’Everyone off to bed!’’ her motherly tone was determined and sharp yet with a subtle softness to it, ‘’We had a long night, let’s just sleep it off.’’ She finished, the room they were in was dusty but there were two rooms, one room had 2 beds so Y/N sent Sam and Ellie to share it, everything look like the last they people visited the motel. Joel watched her from the door frame he was leaning, she put Sam and Ellie to bed and what surprised him was that she tucked them in and placed kisses on their foreheads. For a split second Joel imagined himself in Texas, back at his old place which had a big garden to take care of, he bet Y/N would love to spend time in the garden and plant flowers as delicate as her, what made his place ‘’home’’ was Sarah, in his fucked up daydream Y/N was tucking Y/N and Ellie in, they had bunk beds which was the demand of Ellie because Joel was sure that she was a bunk bed type of girl, it was late and Joel just arrived from his tiring work and all he craved for was to sit on the comfortable couch and watch a stupid movie with Y/N and her falling asleep in his arms.  The creeping feeling of fear pressured his heart, he had to pull himself from this daydream. It was late and he was tired and there was no need to imagine scenarios which will never happen, Sarah was dead and their home was abandoned forever. He was on a mission, a mission to get Ellie to the Fireflies.

When Y/N turned to leave the room she saw his tall and muscular frame leaning against the door frame, big arms crossed and his eyes finding hers, his guard was down which wasn’t like Joel Miller, it was obvious that his mind was somewhere else. She had a small smile and for the first time he smiled back, without exchanging any words they left the kids alone.

Henry had made a place for himself to sleep on the floor, ‘’Goodnight.’’ He said to both of them. ‘’I’ll take the first watch.’’ Joel announced more to Y/N than Henry. ‘’You don’t have to, I’ll do it.’’ She watched him get his rifle and headed to the door, she thought he is going to dismiss her and just leave but when he opened the door he froze, ‘’No,’’ he said with a low voice, ‘’You ran a lot today with the kids..’’ he continued, his back was turned to her but something was stopping him from leaving.

‘’Were you afraid?’’ he spoke in hesitation, he turned to look at her to see her true reaction to his question. ‘’No.’’ her answer came quick and short, she was standing there, she had blue jeans and a t-shirt which was tight on her, her hair was a mess bun and he could see the redness creeping to her face, ‘’Really?’’ he couldn’t deny her pretty eyes, ‘’You were covering us and took care of the clickers, there was no need to be afraid.’’ He was taken aback by her answer. Was she telling to truth? Her answer made him jump into that daydream again, he felt like all of his efforts finally meant something.

‘’Let’s go.’’ She said and together they walked outside, she looked tired but she was determined to at least spend few hours with him, they sat on a bench, the night air was cold but kept her awake. ‘’Do you think we can find the Firefly lab?’’ she asked just make conversation, they only had a map not like there were working cars and GPS. ‘’Tommy must know where it is because he used to be one of them. He’ll guide us.’’ His trust in his little brother astonished her, even though they’ve been apart for so long Joel still believed that he was alive. She guessed they’re gonna find out soon. She only nodded to his answer, since they were sitting next to each other their arms were slightly touching. She could tell he saw stiff, on alert, he had to be but for once she wanted him to relax and enjoy the moment. She looked up to see the stars, since there were no electrical lights they could see the stars, bright and distant. He followed her gaze and looked at the starts, ‘’Its new moon.’’ She said, which made him look surprised, ‘’What does that mean?’’ he asked. At first she didn’t want to explain because she thought that he would discredit her or say something mean but with those soft brown eyes she couldn’t resist. ‘’New moon means it’s time to  initiate beginnings, we’re reminded to reflect on the cyclical nature of reality, how every beginning is an end. Great time to start something new and leave the past behind.’’

She looked at him, there was a sense of understanding in his eyes, she could see how duality of living in the past and present at the same time tore him apart.

Maybe this was a message to him from God or universe that they could be his family, he didn’t want to give into that thought just yet, ‘’You should get some sleep.’’

The next morning she woke up early and walked to the living room area of their motel room, the kids door was still closed but Joel and Henry were talking, ‘’If you want you can join us.’’ Joel offered to Henry, ‘’Yeah, that would be great. Its been a while since Sam had someone close to his age.’’ Henry was packing his things, ‘’Are they still sleeping?’’ Y/N asked to Joel which Joel replied with a grunt, as she was about to march into heir room Ellie left screaming and Sam following behind. At first she didn’t understand what was happening but when Henry grabbed the gun which was on the floor and pointed at Sam it was obvious, Sam was infected and attacking Ellie, ‘’Joel! Y/N!’’ Ellie was screaming at them while struggling with Sam on the floor. Joel and Y/N’s hands were up, Joel took a step towards Ellie but Henry shoot close to Joel’s foot, Y/N could feel the panic consuming her whole body and before she could react Henry shoot his little brother, Sam was dead. Y/N immediately walked to Ellie and wrapped her in her arms, making sure that she isn’t looking Sam’s dead body, Y/N’s hand brushing her hair, ‘’Shhh, I’m here.’’

‘’What did I do?’’ Henry was whispering, clearly in shock, ‘’Give me the gun Henry, give me the gun.’’ She could hear Joel trying to convince him but Henry, with a single bullet to the head he was gone. Ellie screamed again and this time Y/N pulled her really close to her chest.

TAG LIST IS OPEN!

Chapter Four- New chance in life

When they reached to Bill and Franks house it was a relief for her because the house had warm water, it had been years since she had a shower with warm water, ‘’Let’s take a shower because honestly we all stink.’’ She announced and Ellie was the first to take a shower, after her Y/N followed, the house was so tidy yet there were dust everywhere, as soon as she made contact with hot almost boiling water she smiled, as a child she loved warm baths and her parents were kind enough to let her take showers or baths for almost an hour, she closed her eyes as she was washing her long hair, even though she was careful with hygiene it was hard to maintain it in this world. She washed her body and hair, made sure everything was clean and didn’t forget to shave, she had spare razors just in case. When she was done she looked at her reflection in the mirror, the glass was blurred with steam but she could see her silhouette, her hands went to her throat, still burning and bruised. She wondered what would’ve happened if Joel wasn’t there to save her, she would choke to death. Why was he there anyways? A question which will be asked later, she found a white towel to cover herself and left the bathroom to face Joel bringing a box full of women’s clothes, when he saw her like that his footsteps came to a halt and dropped the box on the bed, ‘’it’s uhh women’s clothes for you and Ellie..’’ he said and cleared his throat, her body was wet and hair loose, sticking to her shoulders, he could feel his heart beat go faster than usual, this was the first –he hoped it wouldn’t be last- time that he saw her like this, almost naked and she smelled so good he wanted to hug her and inhale her scent, ‘’Thank you.’’ She smiled kindly, and approached to the bed, there was only a small space between them, he looked at her for the last time to carve that image to his brain and he left without a word, on his way out he heard her giggle to herself.

Their journey began, a man whose heart is aching with heavy mistakes, a kind hearted woman who almost killed herself and a little girl who could change the entire world. A perfect trio if you will, the  truck they took from friends of Joel got them so far but the fuel kept dying out every hour. The cars were left behind and the colors of them faded but they had fuel. Joel used a plastic pipe to get the fuel out, ‘’No wandering!’’ he said sharply to Ellie, it had been a few days since Tess’s death and no one talked about it and they were all tense, ‘’Alright! Let’s address the elephant in the room.’’ Y/N said as she stood up from the top of a car nearby, Joel looked confused, ‘’Ellie, would you like to say anything to Joel about Tess or what happened throughout the days?’’ Ellie as stubborn as Joel shrugged her shoulders, ‘’Joel?’’ Y/N asked crossing her arms in front of her chest which caught Joel’s wandering eyes and didn’t go unnoticed by Y/N, ‘’About what?’’ he asked and swallowed, she could see the exact movement on his throat, ‘’About Tess.’’ Y/N, even though she started the conversation confident she wasn’t so sure anymore. ‘’There is nothing to talk about.’’ Joel as usual dismissed her and everyone around him, the car ride was normal, well, normal for Y/N and Joel because they were alive before the pandemic. ‘’So you used to drive one of these to everywhere?’’ Ellie asked, Y/N could see the shine in her brown eyes, ‘’Well, not me. I was 10 when it happened but my parents had their cars. Almost every adult had a car.’’ Ellie found a cassette of Hank Williams, of course she found a magazine that she shouldn’t have. Y/N was sitting on the shot gun, Ellie at the back and Joel driving the car, if it was normal times someone could look at them and think ‘’What a lovely family.’’

‘’Ellie! Put that back.’’ Y/N’s hand went back to get that magazine from her, ‘’Listen to her Ellie, give it back.’’ Joel said trying to focus on the road. ‘’Why are the pages stuck together?’’ and crickets, Joel and Y/N looked at each other, her cheeks flushed deep and Joel’s lips parted. ‘’I’m just fucking with ya!’’ Ellie laughed and threw the magazine out of the car window. Y/N focused on her hands which lay on her lap and they listened Hank Williams. Y/ N laid her head against the window and watched the world pass her by, buildings were covered with ivies and no one was around not even the infected which was good but once these streets and roads were crowded with people but now nothing was left from them. She wondered what happened to her parents she often found herself thinking about them. They were on a vacation, visiting Europe when everything started and she never heard from them again, it had been 23 years… they must be dead or roaming the streets of Europe as infected. Even if they were alive they must be 65-70 years old.  Without realizing, her face fell, since there was silence in the vehicle Joel checked on Ellie first, she was smiling and reading her novel, and Y/N, he gave her a side eye, trying to be not frank about his intentions but he couldn’t help it. He noticed the sudden change in her demeanor, shoulders shrunken and a sullen face, she must be thinking about her past so Joel left her to her thoughts. It was getting late when Joel pulled the car into the forest, thanks to his friends Bill and Frank he got a lot of food supplies. Y/N was the one who cooked in their found family, the first time Joel cooked for them Ellie threw up and frankly said she didn’t like it at all, when Joel looked at Y/N to get reaction she only kindly smiled and finished the food on her plate unwillingly and Joel said that from now on Y/N is cooking. The first time she cooked dinner for them was still in his mind, it was late and he hid the car among trees just like before, placed the heavy equipments for her to do her thing and backed off. When the dinner was ready they sat by the fire and the first one to try was Ellie, at first she had suspicion in her eyes but as soon as she put food in her mouth she closed her eyes, ‘’Fucking amazing! How is this possible with same ingredients and Joel sucked.’’ Joel looked at the plate and Y/N and put a piece in his mouth, Ellie was right. Y/N thought that he didn’t like it or just didn’t want to say anything but later that night while she was at a small pond washing the plates and spoons he came up to her, ‘’That was delicious.’’ That was all he said and before she could say anything he left. She thought tonight would be the same, she cooked and they ate in silence, ‘’Thank you Y/N, that was so awesome!’’ Ellie as usual gave her compliments and went to the car to get her sleeping bag. Y/N stood up to get her now empty plate from the floor to wash the dishes but Joel beat her to it. ‘’I got it.’’ Their fingers caressed for a split second, ‘’But you’ve been driving all day.’’ She protested with her kind and sweet tone, eyes dove, he didn’t say anything to that and changed the subject. ‘’I’m sleeping tonight and drive tomorrow all day all night. I’ll get us to Wyoming next morning.’’ He said as he was walking with the plates, ‘’Why can’t we lit a fire I’m cold as fuck.’’ Ellie complained as she was struggling with her sleeping bag. Few days ago they lit a fire but ever since Joel was persistent of not doing it again, ‘’She is right, why?’’ Y/N asked, ‘’People.’’ That was enough and Y/N thought she saw something in his eyes, something dark and she almost thought he was afraid…

When the night came they went to sleep, Y/N had to share the sleeping bag with Ellie because the house they took supplies from had only two sleeping bags and sharing it with a strange man was not even an option, even though he was insanely attractive… Usually she was a light sleeper so she would hear things around her, and she noticed that every night, it didn’t matter if Joel was tired or not, he would sleep for maybe 3 hours and lay there, awake, sometimes he would get out of his sleeping bag and just sit, take care of his gun, or just stare at her and Ellie. She couldn’t figure out if it was cute or creepy but knowing that he somewhat cares about them made her feel warm.

In the morning Joel quietly packed his things, started to make coffee, poured the coffee into two metal cups and approached to the girls, Ellie was turned to Y/N and hugging her, her head against Y/N’s chest, even though they were out in the middle of the forest and in a shit situation they seemed peaceful within each other, he knew that they had history together which made them even closer now days. He remembered the times where he would wake up and go to his daughter’s room to wake her up, before waking her up he would just stare at her beautiful face and couldn’t imagine a life without her… and now he had to take care of two girls. Bill was right in his letter to Joel, they were alive because they had a purpose, purpose to keep their loved ones safe and they didn’t have to know it. He cleared his throat to wake them up, Ellie didn’t care but Y/N shifted slightly, opened one of her eyes, ‘’Morning Joel.’’ She said with voice like honey, he had to look away to keep a straight face because he almost caught himself smile, ‘’Here.’’ He extended his hand to give her coffee, they both knew it tasted like shit but it made them wake up. She lifted herself up, and reached with both of her hands, ‘’Thank you.’’ This was their morning conversation, nothing more nothing less. Y/N knew that he had more to say but kept everything inside, like locked vault and only he had to key. Ellie woke up to the smell of coffee, ‘’Ew what the fuck is that?’’ she asked, ‘’You don’t like coffee?’’ Joel asked, almost in shock. Without a word she fell back to sleep, Joel was going to wake her up but Y/N stopped her with a gentle hand movement, ‘’Let her sleep for 5 more minutes, in the mean time I can help you.’’ Joel looked at Ellie’s peaceful face and then Y/N’s  and he only nodded.

She got up from the ground and took a large sip from the coffee, it woke her up immediately, and also the cold morning air did its work, he was organizing the back of the truck, ‘’You didn’t answer my question.’’ Joel started the conversation, the birds were singing their morning song and adding a nice undertone to the atmosphere around them, Y/N was confused, still holding the cup with both of her hands to keep the warmth, ‘’What answer?’’ she watched him manhandle the bags and boxes, it was a sight to sore eyes, ‘’That night, when  I broke down your door and-‘’ Y/N immediately cut him off, ‘’I don’t have a purpose anymore, well..’’ she thought better, ‘’I didn’t had one until that night, when I saw Ellie again. I had given up and you saved me. Thank you by the way, last few months were hard.’’ Joel lifted his head to look at her, his brown ones locked on her soft ones, before he could say anything he saw a mischievous smirk on her pretty lips, ‘’Since we’re talking about that night, tell me, why did you come to my flat that night?’’ she was leaning against the truck, coffee finished, arms crossed and smiling a dangerous smile, ‘’She is going to be the death of me.’’ He thought, ‘’Uhhh-‘’ and Ellie woke up, ‘’What are you two talking about?!’’ she literally screamed and Joel turned to face her, which meant the conversation ended.. till next time.

Ellie wanted to sit on the front so Y/N was at the back this time which she didn’t care, as long as Ellie was happy she was happy, Joel did an explanation about his brother and why they have to find him, ‘’I don’t blame you, if I knew any of my family was alive I would look for them too.’’ Y/N said which she didn’t mean it to be sad but it was sad, she had no one… until now, ‘’So you don’t know what happened to them?’’ Ellie asked, Y/N shrugged her shoulders, ‘’I was staying with my grandmother when it happened, the outbreak,’’ she didn’t want to give much detail but Joel’s comforting eyes checking her every once in a while gave her strength, ‘’because my parents were on a vacation in Europe, I’ve never heard from them again. The soldiers came to took us, my grandmother couldn’t take the stress and sadness so she passed away after a year, I’m on my own ever since.’’

When he heard the last sentence he just wanted to tell her that she wasn’t on her own, she had him and Ellie now but he stopped himself, too soon maybe.

Their car ride came to a stop after hours, there was a huge lorry blocking the way to the other side, ‘’Stay inside.’’ Joel said to them and left the car with his gun to check, they were in Kansas City right now, he checked the map again and took a new rout. Things were smooth until they weren’t, they were in an empty street when a injured man jumped in front of the truck turns out he wasn’t injured and it was an attack from the raiders. People on top of the buildings were shooting at the truck and Joel was driving so fast that he crashed the truck into an old shop, ‘’Are you okay?’’ he checked to see if they were injured, they were fine, Joel could see the fear in their eyes, raiders kept shooting at the cars, ‘’Belts off! Fast!’’ he yelled and they left the truck, there was a long and wide crack at the nearby wall, ‘’Go, I’ll cover you.’’ He said to Y/N, and she grabbed  Ellie by the shoulder, he was right he did cover for them and they climbed inside. Y/N could see that Ellie was panicking so she held her hands, ‘’Everything’s gonna be fine Ellie.’’ She reassured her, they could see Joel from the crack of the wall and he looked like he needed help, he was ambushed by a young man, and he was on top of Joel, chocking him, ‘’We have to do something.’’ Ellie said looking at her, ‘’How? I don’t have a weapon?!’’ Y/N cried in despair, Ellie, with shaking hands digged into her bag and pulled a gun she took from Bill and Franks, ‘’You weren’t suppose to-‘’ Ellie cut her off, ‘’Save him.’’

Y/N never had to shoot a guy or even a slap one across the face, never in her life she had to choose violence but right now she had to make a choice, whether leave Joel to his fate or do something.

She slide through that crack in the wall silently, hands shaking, she had to hold the gun with two hands, safety was off, she pointed the gun at the guy whose back was turned to her. With teary eyes she pulled the trigger, and the guy fell to Joel’s side, Joel was still on the ground trying to breath, his eyes met hers. She was still pointing the gun at the guy, ‘’No,no,no its okay please don’t shoot.’’ His back was bleeding, the guy on the floor kept mumbling about his legs not working and his mom but Y/N’s ears were ringing, she could literally hear her own blood pumping in her veins, Joel stood in front of her, blocking her view, he reached out to take the gun from her shaking hands, she felt the electricity from his touch, he turned to face the guy, still blocking her view, he was doing this for her own behalf. Clearly she was in shock, he was in shock too, seeing such a kind woman shooting someone to save him, his debt was paid. Now they were even, and he faced her, ‘’Get back behind the wall.’’ Her vision was blurry, she didn’t notice that Ellie was watching them, she was like a puppet, empty and following the orders, as soon as she went back Ellie hugged her and made her sat, they heard a thud, and the guy stopped crying. Since Joel couldn’t fit through the crack of the wall together they moved the stuff behind the door for him, he walked in, ‘’Are you okay?’’ he asked them and saw Y/N wipe the tears on her flushed cheeks, ‘’Yes.’’ They both sang in harmony, they moved together.

Chapter Three- New Beginning

As promised Tess was outside with this kid, Ellie. ‘’Why does the Firefly care about you?’’ Tess asked curiously, maybe she was the daughter of the FireFly’s  leader. ‘’I can’t say.’’ She replied shortly. Before Tess could ask anything else she turned to her left to see Joel and this girl, she had black jeans and a hoodie, her backpack seemed full. ‘’Finally.’’ She said, sounding bored. What surprised Tess and Joel was that when Ellie saw Y/N she immediately ran to give her a hug, ‘’Y/N!’’ she said in joy, smiling ear to ear, ‘’Ellie! Oh my God! I was worried for you. Where have you been?!’’ She knelt to give Ellie a big hug, Ellie was one of her students when Y/N came here 6 months ago, together they would play and read. Even though Y/N had no children and had no desire to have one, Ellie was like her daughter, there was a profound bound between them. ‘’Let me look at you.’’ Y/N said and caressed her cheeks, ‘’I’m glad you are safe.’’

Tess didn’t want to bother anyone but she cut in, ‘’Alright girls, we gotta keep moving.’’ Y/N stood up to meet Tess’s eyes, before she could say anything they were stopped by a FEDRA soldier.

‘’Everyone get on your knees!’’ the soldier screamed, ‘’Listen, I can get you more of the drugs and money, let us go.’’ Joel said bargaining, he never liked this soldier anyways but now their fate was in his hands. ‘’I told you man, don’t go out in the dark. Get on your knees. Right now!’’

Y/N looked at Joel for an answer, he shook his head slightly and they all turned their backs and knelt on the muddy ground. The soldier took his detecting machine to see if they were infected, Y/N, Tess and Joel were clean, just as expected but before the soldier could look at Ellie she pulled out her pocket knife and stabbed his leg. Y/N was shocked to see Ellie doing something like this, why would she do that?!

Joel immediately got up from the ground, the soldier was holding the gun at them and cursing in pain but before he could attack Joel took the liberty and tackled him like a hockey player. He was punching and punching the soldier that Y/N could see the blood spreading from the head, Joel’s knuckles were covered in bruises and blood, he turned to face them. His eyes were pleading, trying to explain why he did it but no words came out. In that brief silent moment Tess saw a red light coming from the tool which the soldier used it to check them if they were sick. Green meant the person wasn’t infected, red was… Tess yelled to get attention. ‘’No, I’m not sick!’’ Ellie begged, Y/N had to take a step back, was she really infected? Ellie showed them her arm, it looked like she was bitten but the scar was old.

‘’This is three weeks old! No one lasts more than a day, look!’’ Ellie said. Y/N approached to get a closer look, she was telling the truth. But how? How could she survived that? Tess grabbed Ellie by the arm, ‘’We gotta go Joel! Let’s go.’’ And together they began their journey.

They found a place to hide and sleep for the night, ‘’The kid should sleep few feet away from us.’’ Joel said, he still didn’t trust Ellie, ‘’She could turn and attack us while we’re sleeping so I’m taking the first watch.’’ Ellie rolled her eyes and ignored them. She placed her bag under her head and turned her back at them, clearly she was upset, Y/N knelt and gave her temple a kiss, ‘’Good night. I believe you.’’ She whispered which made Ellie smile.

Y/N didn’t feel like sleeping so she joined Joel and let Tess rest. All night neither of them spoke of what happened earlier, how Joel found her committing suicide or the situation with Ellie. When the day came with its shiny sunlight they made a plan, Ellie told them that there is a base camp of Firefly at west so that’s where they decided to take her even though Joel didn’t like the plan at first he needed a car battery so this was the plan which would take him to his brother.

Everything was working smoothly until the museum, the road was blocked so they had to go through the museum. This was the very first time she came face to face with a clicker, it was a chaos. Ellie was bit again but since she had some kind of immunity to it so Y/N used a white cloth on her arm.

It was afternoon when they reached their destination, Y/N and Elli were walking behind Joel and Tess, what really suspicious was that there were gears and military vehicles but insides were bloody. The smell of heavy iron hit her nostrils, she had to swallow to not throw up. When they walked inside the building all of the soldiers of FireFly were dead, it looked like a Mexican standoff. Tess started to curse and look around, there were guns and tanks of oil, ‘’Where Marleen was suppose to take you?!’’ she walked to Ellie, she was action as if she had no time. Something was off about her, ‘’Can you please calm down?’’ Y/N came between Ellie and Tess in a very protective way. ‘’Tess what’s wrong?’’ Joel asked with caution. There was a brief moment of silence, ‘’She is infected.’’ Ellie said, at first Y/N didn’t believe because she didn’t see that infected at the museum attack her but everything happened so fast. Tess showed them the bite on her throat which was spreading, everyone knew that there was no going back. Y/N could see the unbidden tears forming in the corners of her ocean blue eyes, even though she didn’t know Tess as a friend it looked like she lived hell and survived and obviously going out liked this made her frustrated, she approached to Joel and Y/N and when she saw Joel take a step back Y/N could vividly see that her soul died right there.

‘’This is your chance.’’ She looked at them deeply, ‘’Get her there. Keep her alive, and you set everything right.’’ Her voice broke at the end, Y/N couldn’t help but share the sad truth, Tess was bitten and she was going to sacrifice herself  for them, at the moment it seemed like she was saving them but this would have enormous impact on the bigger picture, for humanity. Finally the humanity had a chance after so long, ‘’Go!’’ she screamed at them as the infected were punching the closed doors of the building, Joel gave a last look at his long time friend, there were sadness coming to the surface in his brown eyes, he grabbed Y/n and Ellie’s arm and didn’t look back.

Chapter Two- Step by step

Joel woke up to the sun rise, the warm sun was burning his face, when he looked at the small watch on the ground he realized that he only slept for 3 hours. His nightmares kept him waking up over and over again all night, it had been a while since he dreamt of his daughter Sarah. He first sat on the bed, recently waking up and getting himself out to the world was getting pointless. His bare feet touching the cold wood floor, he could feel the dust underneath, he was never good at keeping a house, not that it mattered anymore, but it would be nice to have someone… he thought. Joel stood up to wash his face and get ready for the day ahead. Today was the day, he was going to get the car battery and bounce the hell out of here and find his brother. Something in him wished that it wasn’t today when he looked at the apartment complex standing in front of his building, his eyes searched for her window, she had no curtains and he saw her walking towards her door. Every job started at 6.00 am he quickly got dressed, drank a glass of whiskey and left.

Y/N left her flat to go to her job, it was sunny outside and the smoke from cremation of people turned her stomach, she had to walk fast to reach her office and get inside. Everyday ever since her arrival to this QZ she had the same thing. Wake up, do her job as a seamstress, kindly smile to everyone and end conversations short and go home.  The days were getting heavier and heavier, like the Atlas himself carrying the entire world. As she was sitting down and fixing clothes her eyes were fixed on that old man’s jeans. They were dirty, some parts were covered in dry dirt but they didn’t smell bad, in fact, they smelled like him, rich of salt and something that smelled like man. Strong and demanding. She remembered his presence yesterday, they didn’t exchange too much words but the way he stood tall and his aura was there.

Y/N remembered the first day she arrived, the FEDRA soldiers checked her and others to see if they were infected, one of them was so a single shot to the head and the body dropped to the ground. Even though he was infected they should have done it privately, there were children watching. She flinched with that violent act, her eyes needed to focus on something, or someone to zone out and she found him. Warm brown eyes, he was eating his lunch, sitting on a half broken bank, legs spread.

After that day she was placed to a building, the person who was responsible of bringing new survivors asked if she was good at something and this is how she got her job, her grandmother taught her well. Sometimes she got excited for small things, such as; teaching. In her spare time she used to teach kids how to write and read, she brought few books with her and she could feel herself being happy when she was teaching, unfortunately that spark died away when FEDRA banned her from teaching. They said what she is teaching is against their law and she could get into trouble, trouble as in ‘’dead’’ it had been six months since she came here, even though she tried she couldn’t blend in, she felt like a witch in middle ages, one mistake and she is dead.

A cough brought  her back to the present moment, she looked up to meet the eyes of a stranger but found warm brown ones, the ones that looked like fresh soil after a summer rain. ‘’I was just finishing up.’’ She found herself stutter for some reason, maybe she was caught off guard, ‘’It’s okay. I can wait.’’  He replied shortly. This was their second conversation in six months.  She focused on the task at hand again, even though he wasn’t saying a word she could feel his energy, he has to be a fire sign, she thought but she didn’t ask because no one cared about astrology or planets anymore, all they cared about was eat, sleep, fuck and survive. What really surprised her was that women were giving birth, who would in their right mind to decide to have kids?!

‘’Here you go.’’ She gave the jeans back to him, ‘’Good as new.’’ She smiled gently, daring to meet his eyes and Joel didn’t remember when was the last time someone spoke to him in such soft manner and kindly smiled, it was probably before the pandemic.

He reached to grab the jeans and her hands touched his, even though it was for a split second he felt something, like a long gone emotion that is waking up and moving to the surface. He wanted to thank her but instead he was frozen, he placed the jeans onto his shoulder and put money on the table, it was more than the price, ‘’But that’s too much sir-‘’ she wanted to protest, ‘’Joel,’’ she looked puzzled, ‘’My name is Joel, Joel Miller.’’ He managed to say without being too awkward. She could see that it was out of character for him, explaining himself to someone because he didn’t look the type. Y/N didn’t want to be rude so she extended her hand, ‘’Y/N Y/L/N. Pleasure to meet you.’’  His callused hand took her honey like one, that was his first thought, smooth like honey. ‘’Pleasure is all mine.’’ She heard his accent, he must be from Texas or somewhere close, how did he end up in Boston? It was a question wanted to ask but pulled herself from. There was a moment of silence between them and he left, like a breeze he was gone.

Joel had too much to think, he had to get himself and his friend Tess out of here quickly. Tess was a woman of courage, she could take on any task at hand and do a better job most of the people, she was a good friend to have. Together they came up with the plan to escape and the day was today.

As usual Y/N locked the place up, it was moments before the curfew, it started to rain. She always liked the rain, it cleansed her soul. Tonight was the night, she was going to do it. On her way home she smiled to everyone, made small conversations.

When she reached home she locked the door, poured herself a drink, she placed her useful things on the table for others to use and grabbed a chair, placed it under the ceiling. Weeks ago she found a rope in an abandoned building and took it with her, maybe deep down she knew the purpose of the robe. She could hear the thunder and rain, beating the walls of her home. She drank another glass and another and then tied the robe to the ceiling. She shrugged her shoulder, this way of life… it wasn’t worth it anyway. She finished that bottle, tossed it somewhere she did not care and stepped on the chair.

Joel Miller packedhis bag yesterday, before he left he made sure that he got everything he would need, Tess was at the door waiting with Ellie, yesterday he had to make a deal to take this girl to a Firefly team, it was either that deal or no deal at all so he had to agree, Tess played a huge part in it as well. Now he was stuck with this kid who keep annoys him. ‘’Ready to go?’’ Tess asked, Joel looked from his window to Y/N’s window, her lights were on, ‘’What if we got someone else?’’ he asked to Tess, as soon as he spoke Tess rolled her blue eyes, she got so sick and tired of Joel talking about this girl… ‘’Whatever just make it quick. We will wait you outside.’’ Joel ran outside to get her. For once he felt like luck was on his side, he made sure no one saw him and he walked into her building. When he finally reached her door he was nervous, he would rather face infected than this but he had to. He couldn’t just leave without asking her to come with him, he knew he would resent himself.

He knocked on the door, no voice, no nothing. He knocked again, and again, something was wrong. The door was locked so he stepped back and used his shoulder to open it, the door was smashed to the ground and what he saw shocked him to his core. Y/N was tied to a robe but her neck wasn’t broken, she was struggling to get out. Joel immediately grabbed her by the waist and lifted her to give her some air and with his leg he pulled the chair close to him, at last he saved her. She was coughing really bad and her neck was red, her whole body was shaking, Joel made sure that she was in his arms, on the floor, ‘’Why?’’ he breathed, ‘’Why would you do that to yourself?!’’ he sounded angry and hurt at the same time. Holding her with his big arms, when her coughing declined he gave her some water, ‘’T- thank y-ou.’’ She said shaking, ‘’Get up.’’ He demanded, ‘’What?’’ her voice was so tiny and growling, ‘’We’re leaving. Now.’’

Thank you for reading. :)

TAG LIST IS OPEN!

Chapter One- Introduction

‘’Hi sweet cheeks.’’ Y/N had to raise her head to meet the man who addressed her in a vulgar way, it was a soldier, she remembered him. Every week he would bring his uniform for a fixing up, she was a seamstress, that was her job in today’s new community. Her salary was few pieces of papers and it wasn’t enough, and this soldier knew that. She just smiled as usual, took the FEDRA uniform, it was obvious that he ripped that space on his own just to see her, ‘’Will be ready tomorrow.’’ FEDRA soldiers’ things had to be taken care of quickly, it was an unwritten law. ‘’Are you free after work?’’ he asked as if he had a chance, ‘’No, maybe next time.’’ She didn’t want to piss anyone off so she always refused with politeness. She knew what happens to the girls who make a huge scene, ‘’Hey! We’re waiting here.’’ The man behind the soldier said aggressively, the soldier turned to the man, ‘’You know I could arrest you for that right?’’ it was a rhetorical question, the man behind the soldier didn’t say anything more and the soldier left few papers on the table for her as money and left.

The man approached, she recognized him immediately. Him and few others were doing the hardest task here, cremation of the infected people. One could smell the smoke and burnt flesh every single day, from morning to night. Maybe that was one of the reasons why she was nauseated every time she woke up, the man was middle aged, he had a worn out green button up shirt, blue jeans that looked older than her, he had a scarf on his neck it looked dusty and as soon as she realized it was the ashes of people he didn’t say anything and his big hand went to his neck to remove it and put it in his pocket, they were having a nonverbal conversation, she smiled, saddest smile he had ever seen in his entire life. Joel came to this seamstress often because he had old clothes –as did everyone- and he needed to keep them intact not because she had pretty eyes and a gentle manner. It was a rare thing in these days to talk to someone who is gentle and kind, a thing he missed the most…

He placed his old jeans, they were two. Joel noticed her eyes leaving his warm brown ones and to the soldier who was standing at the door of the building, ‘’Does he bother you?’’ Joel found himself utter the question in his mind out loud. It was too late now, ‘’Why do you ask?’’ she asked, because this world was cruel and these days if someone were to offer help they also expected a favor in return, with men, that favor usually was a private event and she didn’t want that, even though he was attractive…

Y/N took the jeans and looked at the places she had to fix, he shrugged his shoulders, ‘’Just wanted to help.’’

‘’I can hold my own.’’ She placed the jeans carefully at the back, his wandering eyes travelled on her body when she stood up, she had a long dress which covered her body but it was an old dress and it was obvious that she grew into it. He didn’t say anything else just left, didn’t forget to look at the name tag of that soldier.

She was  a hardworking woman and in order to earn her place in this new society she had to work hard. Under the dim yellow light she kept fixing clothes for hours, till her Y/E/C eyes got blurry and weary, till her hands started to shake. It was late night when she lifted her gaze from that middle aged man’s jeans that she was holding, he seemed nice but she wasn’t sure, this world thought her to be cautious. She finished her job and rubbed her eyes, she could hear the speakers saying something about curfew, she had to be quick to go to her home so she placed the clothes back to the dusty shelves, if she had time she was planning to clean the place but she had to be quick right now. She picked up her backpack and left the shop, her hands were shaking when she was locking up the place because she heard nasty things about what happens when FEDRA soldiers take citizens during curfew.

She threw the keys into her backpack and decided to use the back road to go to her home. Her sneakers were comfortable enough to climb the half broken wall, there was no one, and it was dark. The only source of light was the full moon, she knew it was full moon in Leo, things were intense lately because of it. Her mother and grandmother were into astrology and guided her when she was a child and after the world turned into a huge chaos she was managed to find books about astrology, no one needed books other than wiping their asses but she had a deep thirst for knowledge. She placed her feet to climb the wall when she heard two people talking. She stopped in her movements and focused, two men were talking about something… car battery, and drugs… she wasn’t suppose to be here.

She slowly backed away from the wall and turned, too bad her keys in her backpack made sound, ‘’Wait, someone is here.’’ One of the men said and she ran immediately.

The streets were surrounded by the soldiers, she had to run in the shadows, thankfully she got back to her place before someone saw her. She had to lay on the bed which was placed on the wooden floor to calm her racing heart. Everyday was a struggle, lately she got really bored of things, like she was fed up with the treatment she got, her life and the world’s situation. That ran sparked something in her, a curiosity which died during the night. She thought about suicide many times and those thoughts were occurring a lot more than she wanted. How would she do it? She didn’t have access to medicine so going peacefully wasn’t an option, she thought about jumping from her window, she had no gun so shooting herself also wasn’t an option but she had a lot of knives, and those knives were looking at you from the dusty kitchen counter… she had to clean her place soon. She was proud to say that her flat was the cleanest because she liked keeping things organized and shiny, when her neighbors see her cleaning her floors on her knees they silently judge her but she thinks that even if the world has come to an end there must be some rules to keep a civilized society. Her rules were simple;

Number one, be clean and organized. Always know where things are.

Number two, do not engage in any heated arguments. –she saw a man kill his friend because of disagreement.-

Number three, keep it low, do not attract attention.

Number three was hard to keep because she was a beautiful woman, she got attention from everywhere.

It was almost 3 at night and she had to be awake at 6 so she took off her clothes and slept.

Joel Miller had to be careful walking home, even though the deal he made with that soldier kept him some what safe he couldn’t rely on anyone. He reached his house safe and sound, closed the door silently and poured himself a drink. It was hard for him to sleep so he stood in front of his window and looked at the street, the grass was cracking the roads, the street lamps weren’t working for few days and it gave an almost literary view. His weary brown eyes went to across the street where she stayed. The first time he saw her was when she first transferred here, she was from a QZ where collapsed and there were few survivors, he remembered the day, the doors opened for them, Joel was on a lunch break, it was a sunny day. FEDRA checked them to see if they were infected or not. She was so silent, almost not wanting to attract any attention but it was impossible, he heard two soldiers suggesting disgusting things about her. He rolled his eyes in anger, her hands were in front of her, entwined, head low, eyes fixed on the sand ground. After that first day he kept seeing her, walking back home or leaving, helping elderly, he saw her carrying water to their houses. Whenever Joel heard her soft voice he couldn’t believe it, she was so calm and gentle while speaking that it seemed impossible to him, he even paid attention to caught her say something in anger or even curse but she didn’t she either kept the conversation short with those pervert soldiers or just listen to the person who was talking to her.

Sometimes he would see her getting food from cafeteria, he would unconsciously stand close to her and then realize what he was doing and back off, he didn’t know if she noticed or not but he never liked those men talking to her predatory, all these years he had to suppress his emotions down to survive but whenever he saw her there was this pressure on his chest, as if something is pushing his ribs, he didn’t want to dwell on it and focused on his work, the most devastating and saddest job in the new world. He had nightmares every night, nightmares had variety of scenarios but the theme was the same, death. He already lost his precious daughter and now his brother wasn’t returning his calls, he was hoping for the best but the boney grasp of death was on his thick neck, chocking his words.

He had to get out of here and find his brother before it’s too late but the thought of leaving her behind ate him up at night.

A/N; Sorry for any typos, let me know if you liked it. Stay safe guys. 💛

Covid didn’t make anything easy for you, especially your college life. After quarantine you were so bored and about to lose your mental health so you decided to visit a library and study there. Thankfully coffee shops and other places were open, you got your coffee and headed to the library. You had an assignment to finish so you sat and opened your laptop and books. You were so focused that you didn’t see or hear a man sitting right in front of you, well he was silent too. You casually decided to look up and around you and saw a tall man sitting and reading a book. He had a small notebook and he was taking notes. He looked too old to be a college student, a professor? You have never seen him in your university, if you had you would’ve know because even though he had a colorful mask on he looked handsome. He had a black shirt and you could see his golden skin color. After studying for hours you wanted to take a break and observe this man. Being in quarantine obviously made you hornier than usual but there was something special about this man. He had his glasses on, and for a second he got distracted and looked up, he had brown eyes, you averted your gaze and looked at the screen of your laptop. Did he notice that you were checking him out? You took a deep breath under your purple mask and kept studying. Later you saw him leave his table he was headed to the bathroom and you had a crazy idea. You ripped off a white piece of paper and wrote; ‘’Would you like to grab lunch after we finished studying?’’ and you draw small boxes that said yes or no. You didn’t forget to add a small smile and before he came back you left it on his table and sat back.

Your heart was beating fast, you have never took a bold action like this one in your entire life but something in you told you to go for it. I mean, the worst case scenarios is he says no and leaves and you never see him again and then you started to wonder what would happen if he were to say yes. You felt your cheeks go red, you were nervous and watching his tall frame coming to settle in his seat didn’t help, you already regretted your decision and wished you could go back in time and keep your nose in your own mess. He noticed the paper, put his glasses on –you thought it was cute- and read it, the edge of his eyes told you that he had a smile, he looked up and saw you. There was no one close to both of you so apparently it was you. He got his pen and choose his answer and then he got up, came to your table, you felt so small under his tall body. He left the paper and placed his hands on the brown table. ‘’Open it.’’ He said and this was the first time you heard his voice, it sounded familiar. Without a word you opened it and it said, ‘’I would love to gorgeous. 😉’’  you looked up to meet his shiny brown eyes, ‘’I will be done in 20 minutes, if that’s okay with you we can leave together?’’ he asked. You were expecting a rejection so you were lost for words, his manly cologne filled your covered nostrils, ‘’I would love that.’’ You replied and hoped he didn’t hear the shaking in your voice. ‘’Good, I’m Pedro Pascal by the way.’’ He extended his hand boldly and then it hit you, he was the Pedro Pascal, the actor one.  ‘’Y/N Y/L/N.’’

‘’Y/N, that’s a unique name.’’ He said and the tone of his voice dripped diablerie, it was charismatic and unusual to you.

‘’Thank you.’’ You managed to say, before someone in the library told you both to shut up he whispered, ‘’See you in 20 minutes.’’ He winked at you andgot back to his table. Today was your lucky day.

I can turn this into a small series if you want. Let me know

Thank you for reading. 💛

Drabble!

A/N; Thank you for the request. Sorry for any typos, enjoy!

Parenthood

Ever since you had your twins the life was chaotic, your labor was problematic and Pedro was scared that he might lose you, thankfully nothing bad happened and you came to your house happily with two new borns. A boy and a girl, boy’s name was Leonardo, in short Leo, and the girl’s name was Lux, you wanted to name your baby girl after Pedro’s sister Lux. Now they were 3 months old and if one of them was crying the other would start crying so Pedro took time from his work to be with his family and help you stay sane.

You were younger than him which caused some problems in the fandom, some thought you were after his money and fame, Pedro was hesitant at first and now whenever he looks at you and the twins he can’t help but smile.  You were breastfeeding Leo , leaning on the comfy couch, Pedro was holding Lux and talking to her you could hear it, they were in the kitchen. ‘’You have to wait baby because Mamá is feeding Lux, yes she is your twin, can you believe that?!’’ Pedro remembered the day when the doctor told you guys that you’ll be having twins, he felt like he couldn’t stand still, he held your hand and looked into you Y/E/C eyes and all his worries melted away and now he was holding his daughter in his arms, this tiny creature of God was trying to focus on his face and he giggled, came back to the living room, he gave you Lux and you gave him Leo.

Leo was sleeping, everything was calm for a second and you both smiled, ‘’Hear that? No sound.’’ Pedro said whispering, ‘’I know right!’’ you replied as you were breastfeeding your daughter and Pedro knelt, looked up to meet your gaze, ‘’I love you mi amor.’’ And kissed your sweet lips, you were both tired but it was worth it. He loved you and you loved him to death, he broke the kiss to cup your cheek, ‘’I would die for you, I would kill for you, either way what bliss.’’ A tear dropped from his right eye.

Thank you for reading. :)

Bullet in The Heart

Pedro Pascal x Female Reader

A/N; I watched a video on tiktok and had this idea, I had to write it. Enjoy, sorry for any typos.

You were in your small apartment complex, it was getting late and after binge watching romantic shows and eating your feelings you decided that it was time for bed, you took a shower, cried a little in the shower and came back to your bedroom. Everything smelled like him, you saw his hoodie on your chair, threw it in your wardrobe. The break up really broke your heart because you both had feelings for each other but his career got in your relationship, his fans were criticizing your body, face etc, however there were other fans who kept supporting you but seeing negative comments every day started to break you down. Pedro kept reassuring you, telling you how beautiful and smart you were but he wasn’t always there to comfort you. He had a hectic work schedule and you sometimes didn’t even see him for months. Rage, sadness, depression built and built finally both of you decided to ‘’take some time off’’ which meant break up in a naïve way. You were getting ready for bed when you heard your phone, you walked to the living room and the second you saw your screen your heart jumped several times. It was Pedro who was face timing you right now, you still had a small heart emoji next to his name, you couldn’t bring yourself to delete it. ‘’Should I take the call?’’ something in you begged to answer, you waited for a few seconds, maybe it was on accident but the phone kept ringing and you decided to answer.

He was standing there in a white t-shirt, his hair looked messy, the second he saw you his brown eyes got wide and shined, but there was sadness under them. He looked tired, ‘’Working too much?’’ but the truth was that he couldn’t sleep properly because of you.

‘’Hi.’’ You said with a small smile, glad to see his face. It had been a month since the break up, ‘’Hi.’’ He said. He sighed heavily, you could see that he was nervous, and he started to giggle, he was a goofy man. ‘’It’s late Pedro, why did you call me?’’ You asked curiously, he was lost in his thoughts, watching your face, the face he had missed so much it was burning his chest. ‘’I was thinking about you. I always do, around this time, every time of the day.’’ His hand went to his hair, he was struggling, ‘’You probably not even thinking about me, do you ever think about me?’’ a certain hope covered his eyes, you had to swallow the lump in your throat, ‘’A little.’’ you said, it was a lie, you was thinking about him every second. ‘’A little?’’ he was standing, bent a little to see his phone screen, ‘’What was I saying?’’ he sighed, ‘’What am I saying?’’ he cursed under his breath, he moved back, standing still. He came back to see you, you were trying really hard not to cry right now, ‘’What am I saying?!’’ he raised his voice a little, he was talking to himself more than talking to you at the moment. Obviously he wanted to say something but words couldn’t leave his pretty lips, his hands went to his face rather harshly, was he punishing himself? A sob left his lips, ‘’Pedro, it was your idea to break up, your career and fans are more important than a relationship.’’ You could see how sorry he was, you both knew it was a mistake. He clapped his hands together, ‘’Do you remember…when we went out on a date first time.. to see a play..’’ you remembered but let him keep talking. ‘’Wait,’’ he said and left, you could hear he was looking for something in his house, he was opening doors, slamming them hard, he was angry with himself and you were scared a little, scared that he might hurt himself, you could hear drawers opening and closing harshly, he brought 2 tickets, tickets that he got for you and him a year ago.  ‘’You remember right?’’

‘’Yes, Pedro. I remember that play.’’ You said calmly, ‘’You laughed so hard you peed a little,’’ he smiled at the memory, ‘’what was that fucking line in the play how the fuck did it go?! If, if , if..’’ he was trying to say the line which you loved so much. He was in love with you and he was trying hard to get you back. ‘’If you got one friend when you die…’’ he was pointing his finger at you, eyebrows knitted, trying really hard to remember the line, ‘’then you got something most people never have.’’ That was the line you cherished. He remembered, you smiled, you could see your face on the screen, tears leaving shiny liquid marks on your cheeks, ‘’And I tried to quote that shit back at you and you laughed at me ‘cus I fucked it up, and I kissed you for the first time,’’ he bit his lips sullenly, he always did that when he didn’t want to cry and seeing you cry silently broke him, tore his soul into pieces. He was breating heavily now, ‘’and you let me kiss you.. and then it rained like we were in a fucking movie and life was never better than that.’’ Now he was crying with you, ‘’Why did you have to love me like that Y/N?’’ he let his guard down when he met you and he realized he was deeply in love with you when you kissed on that date, ‘’Why did you have to love me back?’’ he yelled at you, he fixed his hair, you couldn’t help but keep crying, you wished you were there with him, holding him, kissing him. ‘’Why did you do that?’’ he whispered more to himself, ‘’You sent me into a kind of madness Y/N, sometimes I go into the quietest parts of this house and I whisper your name,’’ he was looking right at you, pushed back his hair. His eyes met yours, and he looked achingly vulnerable and loving all at once. ‘’I wish I could scream it, I should.. Should I scream it? Y/N?’’ tears dropping to his already wet cheeks, he closed his eyes for a second, ‘’Pedro please, stop..’’ you whispered to him and he opened his eyes, ‘’I want you, I want you, I want you back. Please have me back Y/N. I can’t live without you.’’ His voice was shaking, he was holding the edges of the table so that he wouldn’t fall to the ground. ‘’We can’t-‘’

‘’Y/N, please. I  just want a second chance. I will never leave you again please.’’ He was begging, saying your name over and over again, weary look was upon his face, ‘’What do you say?’’ he asked with a thin edge of desperation in his voice, you could feel it in your bones. For a moment you were still, not certain of what to do or say, however your heart told you to go for it, ‘’I love you Pedro, I always have.’’ Y/N said as soft as a kiss,

‘’Te amo Y/N.’’

Thank you for reading. :) I would love to know if you liked it.

Hey ...

Can I have a request for pedro × reader ?

The reader is sad about something and can't sleep pedro finds her in the balcony all alone with her thoughts in the middle of the night

threw this together to try to get out of my writers block, hope you enjoy love! sorry it's a bit on the shorter side :)

Hey ...

The night had gone seemingly well - or so he'd thought. Nothing was particularly out of the ordinary anyways. Dinner had been delicious, the wine you'd shared sweet, and you'd both wound down with a few episodes of a new show in bed before he'd curled up under the covers and let the drowsiness have him.

He'd just assumed you'd dozed off soon after he'd kissed you goodnight. But when he woke up at 2am to a cold bed, he realized he's been mistaken.

It put a knot in his stomach as soon as his eyes adjusted and he realized that his senses weren't failing him - you really weren't there beside him.

"Baby?" He called, voice still raspy.

The knot grew into a pit when he saw that the bathroom light wasn't on either.

"Amor?" He tried again - no answer.

His heartbeat picked up as he stood up from the bed, pace quickening as he realized that the bedroom door was cracked. He pushed it aside quickly, eyes scanning the house for any sign of you.

He let out a breath when he found it - the silhouette of his yellow Lakers shirt outside on the balcony, outlined through the glass doors. He'd recognize you in a crowded room, even with you turned away towards the city the way you were.

He was quiet and slow as he approached, sliding the door carefully out of the way.

"Amor? It's me." His voice was gentle but you jumped anyways, breath catching in your chest before you recognized him and relaxed.

You opened your mouth to say something, but you couldn't find anything quite right. Everything felt heavy - your mind, your chest, your eyes. So when Pedro made his way in front of you, crouched down to meet your gaze and asked if you were alright, you couldn't answer. All you did was shake your head no, and let the burning in your eyes you'd been fighting finally spill over.

He didn't need anything more than that. Without any hesitation he looped one arm under your knees and another behind your back, lifting you up and switching places so you were settled on his lap in the chair, curled up against him. He didn't move his arms, just used them to hold you close to him, to tuck you up against his bare chest.

His cheek was rough against your forehead, but it settled you, grounded you each time you felt it move as he spoke sweet nothings that flowed down to you, calming your heart beat by beat. I've got you amor. You're safe. It's alright. I'm right here. You can let it out. I love you. Te amo. I love you.

The tears stopped some time later, and to Pedro's relief you sat up and looked at him, giving him the chance to wipe some of the remnants away with his thumbs along your cheekbones.

"Que pasa mi amor?" He murmured sweetly - when you were finally able to look at him the genuine concern in his eyes was almost your undoing all over again. The love was so blatant, and you felt so undeserving that it was overwhelming. How could he really be yours? And how could you handle him being so far away? But you couldn't put that on him - it was too much. Too heavy.

"It's nothing baby, I'm okay."

He tucked a piece of hair behind your ear, letting his fingers linger. You relaxed, resting your cheek in his palm.

"I can't help you if you don't let me in amor. Please," he whispered. "Let me in. Tell me, let me hold some of it."

You would never understand how he always knew exactly what to say to unlock the flood gates. But somehow he always had the key. And so you started to tell him. And you couldn't stop. And with every sad confession came tears and jumbled sentences and points missed and you didn't care, because Pedro was there, listening to every word and holding your hand as you played with his fingers to distract yourself as you spoke, released everything that had been keeping your mind running in circles all night long, exhausting you.

"... and it feels better when you're here, it feels like I can breathe but I know you're going to be gone soon and I'm so happy for you and I know you'll come visit and I can go visit but I don't know how I'm going to be okay with you so far away for so long when I love you this much and I just - I just -"

Those words in particular caught Pedro's ear, caused him to sit up a bit straighter.

"Sweetheart, I don't leave for filming for another two months."

"I know, I know I sound crazy, we have so much time but I can't stop thinking about what it's going to be like when you aren't here."

"Hey, c'mere. C'mere." He readjusted, moving your legs until you were straddling him. He took your face in his hands, waiting until you looked at him. "You aren't crazy. I've been thinking about it too. About how hard it's gonna be."

The shock of that pulled you out of your spiral a bit.

"You have?"

"Of course I have. I don't want to leave you here alone when I got to the gym, much less for six months of filming. I want to be where you are, simple as that."

The sincerity of his words hit you like a ton of bricks. "Yeah?" was all you could muster, and it made him chuckle.

"Yeah, mi amor." He laughed, kissing your nose. "So on that note I was thinking, maybe you could just come with me. If you wanted. We could get an apartment instead of my trailer, for the weekends, and -"

"You'd do that?"

He blinked at you, surprised. "Of course I would. But I understand that's a lot to ask of you. So obviously take all the time you need to think about it, and we can figure out the details."

It was your turn to laugh. As if you even needed to consider it.

"What?" He questioned. You answered him with a kiss, hoping it would convey everything you needed to say. When you finally broke free a few minutes later, your lack of sleep and aftermath of adrenaline had worn off. He didn't need to ask if you were okay - he could feel it. You yawned, leaning your head against Pedro's broad shoulder and melting into him.

He held you for a few moments, relishing in the feeling of you fully trusting him before he kissed your temple and coaxed you up just enough for him to get his hands under your thighs so he could carry you to bed. You didn't stray far - once he climbed under the covers you returned to him, curling up against his chest, head clear for the first time in weeks as his kissed your forehead and pulled you closer, holding you through the night.
