Happy pride month to the whole six(6) people who follow my blog! For this year’s pride I propose we sacrifice the straights to the Corona gods so that we may be granted safe passage out of quarantine and into a newer, gayer, better world.

It's really crazy to realize that, in a way covid is the best thing that ever happened to me. To be clear, the pain and death caused by the pandemic is in no way worth the small gains it circumstantially brought me but that's why it's weird to think about.

I don't know when or if I ever would have recognized the parental and spiritual abuse I was dealing with, if the pandemic didn't make it more apparent and me less busy. I might not have been able to do my internship that led to my job offer because of the distance and my then lack of a license. I wouldn't have the funds I need to move out unless my internship was virtual and interest was paused on federal student debt. I might have been too scared to leave those I knew in the cult, but because of lack of in person events I was able to mostly distance myself.

Even now it can suck ass. I'm stuck with these abusers nearly 24/7 and can't see anyone who actually cares for me. I'm terrified about getting Covid and increasingly disgusted by the lack of government response. So knowing how all this awful stuff has helped me, and also other people in groups like this brings me a small comfort. It will never be a fair trade but it's something positive.

So, India is dying.

Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.

If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.

A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.

There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.

There is no plan.

Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.

So, India Is Dying.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.

So, India Is Dying.

We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.

This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.

We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.

People are dying.

So, India Is Dying.

People are dying.

So, India Is Dying.

People are dying and there is no plan.

So, India Is Dying.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.

My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.

Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.

But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.

She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.

So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.

If you can, donate.

Or spread the word.

Help. Please.

day: something or other of having c0v!d

Milk tastes like water, rice tastes bland, flavoured water tastes even more like chemicals

I can’t eat ice pops without it tasting like a drop of dilute juice in a lake

Cheese puffs tastes roughly the same despite this

Anyway, as we enter cold & flu season in the YEAR of corona, this will come in very handy.

Anyway, As We Enter Cold & Flu Season In The YEAR Of Corona, This Will Come In Very Handy.

This was created by Vox and if you look at small print, you'll find the sources used to create the table.

Obviously there are exceptions and we're getting conflicting and new information about covid-19 all the time but by mid-august, I believe we certainly had observed enough cases for experts to put this together at least.

Lmaooo shout out to when my dreams basically predicted Covid in early 2018. I still blame myself to this day for not protecting that flower, I was going through things and not as strong a dreamer as I am now.

Starting Over

I was having a good time at my aunt’s house. Everything was calm and okay for once. My sister wanted me to go somewhere with her, but she kept being really bitchy about it, so I told her no since she was acting like a little shit. And everyone was all shocked because I cursed and I said “sorry it’s true”.

A little while later, me and my sister are in the car with mom. We’re riding down the highway and it’s storming like fuck. There’s at least six tornadoes in front of us, and they keep disappearing and materializing from thick clouds. We see a truck full of people, everyone is knocked out, so me and my sister take one of the girls and wake everyone up so they can keep driving. We put the girl in or trunk because she wouldn’t fit up front, but she ended up being in the backseat with me anyways somehow.

We keep driving. I see a circle in the sky, like a hole to get out, a moon of sorts. And in the sky materializes a bunch of mouths, with sharp teeth and disgusting tongues. And before anything could happen, the entire world goes white.

My sister and my mom aren’t there as far as I’m concerned. I’m in the room with a bunch of random people.

There’s a voice that greets us. A man’s voice. I immediately begin to ask questions. “Who are you? Why are we here” I don’t think he answered those questions.

“Can we go back?” I continued asking. He answered that in a few years, a new flower would’ve developed that would cause the flu. Probably a really big flu if it was a cause for concern. I ask about religion. He responds with morals that we would have to follow, like letting younger people do things first. I ask if we would have to create our own children. It’s quiet. I call out for him with saying “Hello?” There was confusion. Things like a mattress, everything still all white, appeared on the floor so quietly, I hadn’t noticed them until I looked at them. Everything was quiet.

Then I heard a voice saying not to cut the flower. It was high pitched, like a man trying to talk “feminine”. I looked around quickly. There was a beautiful flower behind one of the mattresses, not far from a piece of scissors. It was an Adam and Eve scenario. I quickly go for the scissors so no one tries to cut the flower, and one of the guys in the room attacks me, trying to get the scissors from me. I struggled and cut at his fingers to get him away, and another girl somehow got a hold of a knife. She tried to stab me, but ended up just skimming my pinky finger. Things calmed down immediately after that. I kept looking at my pinky to make sure everything was okay, and I saw the guy who attacked me laying on the floor.

Well, it took four and a half years but I finally caught COVID. It’s just mild symptoms but I’ll still need to isolate for about a week. Hopefully it’ll pass pretty quickly. In the meantime, let’s look at the positives. I’ve got a backlog of games and anime to work through so that’ll be fun.

NASA’s View of COVID-19

#COVID19 led to changes in human activities around the globe. We can see some of these changes from space. Some bodies of water have run clearer, emissions of pollutants have temporarily declined, and transportation and shipment of goods have decreased.

image

Along with our partner agencies – ESA and JAXA – we’re making satellite data available on the COVID-19 Earth Observation Dashboard, where you can explore some of the changes we can see from space.

But it’s not just what we can see. When the pandemic began, NASA engineers sprang into action to build ventilators, oxygen hoods and more to help save lives.

welp, I am now over a month into quarantine.  I have not seen any person face-to-face that is not my family for over five weeks.  Chances are that quarantine will be extended anyways.  my motivation to do literally anything has plummeted, until i end up lying on the floor knowing that i should be doing something productive, but not having enough self control to make myself actually do the thing.  sigh.

y’all saying BLM for one situation just don’t sit right with me, it goes beyond police brutality!!! it’s Black women dying at a higher rate during childbirth. it’s Black people being exposed to COVID-19 at a higher rate. it’s Black people being forced into low income communities. it's Black people being denied job opportunities due to the name on their applications. it's Black people being denied into higher institutions despite having the same qualifications as their non-Black counterparts. it's Black people having their creations and ideas stolen without being given credit simply because a good percentage of society still believes in 2020 that Black people are not creative enough or smart enough or skilled enough. this isn't just about police brutality. this is deeper than that.

Wearing any type of face covering, even if it’s just a bandana, is vitally important to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Please wear a mask.  I would highly recommend reading this paper on the efficiency and potential effectiveness of cloth masks.  I’ve copied the conclusion down below, but I urge you to read the article for yourself; please never accept something just because you saw it in a tumblr post (or any social media post).

Conclusion of the article:

“In conclusion, we have measured the filtration efficiencies of various commonly available fabrics for use as cloth masks in filtering particles in the significant (for aerosol-based virus transmission) size range of ∼10 nm to ∼6 μm and have presented filtration efficiency data as a function of aerosol particle size. We find that cotton, natural silk, and chiffon can provide good protection, typically above 50% in the entire 10 nm to 6.0 μm range, provided they have a tight weave. Higher threads per inch cotton with tighter weaves resulted in better filtration efficiencies. For instance, a 600 TPI cotton sheet can provide average filtration efficiencies of 79 ± 23% (in the 10 nm to 300 nm range) and 98.4 ± 0.2% (in the 300 nm to 6 μm range). A cotton quilt with batting provides 96 ± 2% (10 nm to 300 nm) and 96.1 ± 0.3% (300 nm to 6 μm). Likely the highly tangled fibrous nature of the batting aids in the superior performance at small particle sizes. Materials such as silk and chiffon are particularly effective (considering their sheerness) at excluding particles in the nanoscale regime (<∼100 nm), likely due to electrostatic effects that result in charge transfer with nanoscale aerosol particles. A four-layer silk (used, for instance, as a scarf) was surprisingly effective with an average efficiency of >85% across the 10 nm −6 μm particle size range. As a result, we found that hybrid combinations of cloths such as high threads-per-inch cotton along with silk, chiffon, or flannel can provide broad filtration coverage across both the nanoscale (<300 nm) and micron scale (300 nm to 6 μm) range, likely due to the combined effects of electrostatic and physical filtering. Finally, it is important to note that openings and gaps (such as those between the mask edge and the facial contours) can degrade the performance. Our findings indicate that leakages around the mask area can degrade efficiencies by ∼50% or more, pointing out the importance of “fit”. Opportunities for future studies include cloth mask design for better “fit” and the role of factors such as humidity (arising from exhalation) and the role of repeated use and washing of cloth masks. In summary, we find that the use of cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of particles in the aerosol size range.”

Source again for if you don’t want to scroll up: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7185834/

Of course, a simple cloth mask is nowhere near as effective as a respiratory mask such as N95 masks, and neither even touches the effectiveness of a full-body protective suit, but (a) not everyone has access to a fully-body protective suit or even to an N95 mask and (b) any face covering is better than no face covering.  So if all you have to cover your face is a bandana, please cover your face with a bandana.  If you have access to higher-quality cloth masks, utilize higher-quality cloth masks.  If you have access to N95 masks, wear an N95 mask.  Do as much as you can to keep the virus from spreading.

(Also please note the significantly higher risk if your mask does not fit; obviously this risk would be higher with bandanas, which are not typically made to fit snugly to the contours of one’s face.  Still, bandanas are better than nothing.)

Stay safe! <3
